From Hogwarts to Strixhaven
Chapter 120 Defense Against the Dark Arts at the Edge of the Forbidden Forest
"By the way, Professor McGonagall." Ivy said, "My next class is the seventh grade advanced class. We will practice some spells with louder sounds at the edge of the forbidden forest, the spell that attracted you last time."
"Oh, I've heard from the students," Professor McGonagall collected the students' homework written on parchment, knocked it on the table to organize it, and sealed the test papers that the professors had handed to her before with magic, "I heard that you are going to let them use that spell as a universal solution for N.E.W.T. exams? Smart idea...but...will it be a little too powerful?"
"After all, they have to face dark magic creatures and dark wizards. As long as they don't hurt themselves, I don't think it's a big deal." Ivy stood up from the armchair, greeted his colleagues, and prepared to leave the staff lounge to go to the class.
"Again, remember to clean up your practice area. There's nothing else to pay attention to." Professor McGonagall also came out from behind her desk and joined her colleagues for a tea break. Professor Sprout provided exquisite meringues as a match for ice cream, and Professor Flitwick waved his wand to create a cold wind, which lowered the temperature of the staff lounge a little bit.
"Great." Ivy reached out to open the door, but found a red-haired student standing outside the door. He was awkwardly raising one hand, probably about to knock on the door, "Mr. Weasley? What can I do for you?"
"Professor Victor?" Percy was startled. He didn't expect that this serious-looking professor would open the door for him. "Uh... I'm here to see Professor McGonagall."
Ivy made way for Percy to come in. Although he was appointed as a prefect, he still felt a little uncomfortable facing so many professors at the same time.
"You're five minutes early, Mr. Weasley." Professor McGonagall glanced at him, waved her wand and pulled a chair for him, "Sit down first, or do you want some ice cream?"
"Oh! No thanks!" Percy quickly refused, "But the employment consultation..."
"Wait until I finish enjoying this meringue ice cream, just for a moment." Professor McGonagall didn't give him a chance to refuse, and took a big bite of the plate.
Employment consultation? Ivy didn't know that Hogwarts had such a service. What can a dark magic master like him do after graduation? Go to Azkaban for further study? Ivy shook his head and left the staff lounge.
A group of seventh-grade students had gathered in the open space next to the Forbidden Forest. They exchanged their views on Defense Against the Dark Arts while waiting excitedly. It seemed that no matter which grade the students were, they had no resistance to the powerful spells, even in the sweaty summer.
"It's Professor Victor! He's here!" The students saw Ivy from a distance, and gradually became agitated as he approached.
"It's hard for you to wait for me for so long in the sun, gentlemen and ladies." Ivy took a glance and confirmed that these were all the students in the seventh-year advanced class of Defense Against the Dark Arts.
"We are not hot at all!" Ivy's suspicious eyes lingered on the sweat flowing down their hair for a while.
"Dark clouds!" Ivy took out his wand and pointed at the sun in the sky. A dark cloud spewed out from his wand and rose to the sky in a blink of an eye, covering a large area of the sun.
Below the clouds was the lawn where classes were held. The students cheered for the sudden dark clouds.
"Weather spell!" a Ravenclaw student shouted, looking at Ivy's wand with an admiring look, "Amazing! If I could do this so easily, my mother would drown me with kisses!"
The metaphor was so vivid that the classmates quickly shifted their attention from the dark cloud to his mother: "Do you still want your mother to sing a lullaby to you when you sleep?"
The one who made the mockery was a seventh-year Slytherin, who also used his hands to hold a baby and shook it exaggeratedly.
Before a dispute broke out, Ivy stopped them: "I didn't summon the dark cloud to give you the energy to quarrel. Everyone is here, now say "sorry", and then we start class."
Based on the deterrence shown by Ivy in class, the Slytherin student quickly apologized, and the class officially began.
"Does anyone remember the spell we are going to learn today?" Ivy asked after summoning some training dummies.
Someone raised his hand. It was the Slytherin who apologized before: "Pyroblast!"
"Very standard." Ivy nodded, "It seems you have practiced a lot in private."
"You are right, professor." The Slytherin student was confused, "But I have never succeeded once, not even a little spark came out of my wand. I also asked the elders at home, and they all said that this cannot be a spell."
"Humph." Ivy snorted and smiled, "Yes, that's because this spell has a unique operating logic."
"Confringo!" Ivy read again, and the flash from his wand left a huge pit on the lawn, and the wooden training dummy in it had completely disappeared.
"Who can tell me the difference between the Explosion Spell and the Pyroblast?" Ivy asked again, and then randomly pointed to someone to answer the question.
"Uh..." The Hufflepuff student who was pointed hesitated and answered unconfidently: "The Explosion Spell is in Latin, and the Pyroblast is in English?"
"Right!" Ivy clapped her hands as encouragement.
"The spells used by modern wizards are basically from the Book of Spells written by Miranda Goshawk. The Standard Spells series of textbooks you use in the spell class is part of the Book of Spells. This book is also in the restricted area of Hogwarts, and it also records the spells invented by students over the years." Ivy explained.
Many students showed annoyance on their faces, as if they were regretting that they had not seen this book before graduation.
No mistakes, one post, one content, one book, one forum, one 6, one 9!
"The definition of magic in the Book of Spells is very simple, with the correct Latin pronunciation, the correct wand movements and the correct beliefs." Ivy continued, "This is your first lesson in learning spells."
"But Pyroblast is different. It uses another set of spell models. You can't release this spell just by chanting and waving the wand." Pyroblast is an idea that Ivy came up with after reading the Book of Spells in 6 seconds with the Scholar's Touch. This is an attempt to combine DND spells with wizard spells.
Because in the DND world, warlocks who are spontaneous casters can also master spells that do not exist in their bloodline heritage through hard study. This is very similar to the way wizards cast spells, so Ivy tried to apply the DND spell model and component system to wizard spells, and combined the two native spells "Thunder Explosion" and "Flame", which created this seemingly true Pyroblast.
"If you want to learn Pyroblast, you must remember its spell model and let the magic complete the spell model under the guidance of the wand before you can release it." Ivy waved his wand, and the golden light particles outlined a pattern in the air, with complex annotations next to it.
"So the spell is not necessary?" A smart guy immediately found the blind spot.
"To be precise, among the spell components that make up Pyroblast, the spell can be omitted first." Ivy nodded, "As long as you can successfully release it once, I believe you can soon save the spell. If you have to face the practical part of the N.E.W.T. exam, the silent spell will undoubtedly allow the examiner to give you extra points."
"Great!" The students cheered, and more people took out notebooks from their schoolbags and tried to record the blackboard notes left by Ivy in the air with light particles.
But after copying a few lines, the students found something wrong: "Why is what I copied different from what you wrote, professor?"
Of course, copying scrolls requires a specialty.
"You can't bring your notebook with you to the exam room, right? That's why I held this class outdoors." Ivy spread his hands and chose a statement that students could easily accept. "You have to use your brain to remember it. A quill can't help you."
