Chapter 40 Acquiring Statue
Under the urge of curiosity, Odin hurried towards the table.
However, just as he arrived near the table, he was halted by a glacial blue barrier.
In the beginning, Odin failed to notice there was a barrier surrounding it. As he got closer, only the barrier appeared. Using his hand to doubtfully touch the barrier, Odin was able to feel a clear repulsive force.
However, the spirit energy within the barrier gave a sense of warmth to Odin. It probably wasn’t a destructive kind of barrier. It was a barrier with the purpose of defending.
The barrier wasn’t huge, it was just enough to encase the table. Odin injected his spirit energy into the barrier, attempting to break the barrier.
But, there weren’t any noticeable effects. The barrier remained unyielding, its glacial blue surface even glowed brighter.
Staring at his hands, Odin was certain his spirit energy was absorbed by the barrier. Did it mean this barrier’s true identity was the spirit energy within a spirit form of a Spirit Warlock?
In his hand, an Ice Arrow materialized. Odin fiercely stabbed it right at the barrier. A dent formed on the barrier but it bounced back immediately. Except, there was a slight crack on the surface due to the effect of the external forces.
Odin carefully examined the crack, it was similar to the crack that appeared when a piece of rock was thrown at a thin layer of ice. Considering for a while, Odin felt it was easy to break the barrier. As long as a breakthrough point appeared, the entire barrier would crumble eventually.
Leaning against the barrier, Odin rested for a bit. Next, he conjured dozens of icicles and commanded all of them to charge at a single spot of the barrier.
All of the icicles vanished the moment they contacted the barrier. Soon, a ‘crack’ noise came from the barrier. Odin retreated a few steps back to avoid the aftermath of the barrier’s destruction accidentally injuring him.
At the focus spot where the icicles attacked, the barrier suddenly cracked. Afterward, the barrier converged into a pillar of a glacial blue light ball in midair before bursting at Odin.
Astonished by it, Odin intended to dodge instantly. But the light ball was too fast and before Odin could even take any action, it crashed into Odin.
The next moment, Odin was caged inside a glow of glacial blue light. Soon, the glow dispersed into the air as though nothing ever occurred.
Odin stared at his chest in confusion and didn’t notice any unusualness. He believed it would puncture a huge hole in his body, instead, he was fine and nothing occurred.
Strangely enough, at that instant, Odin sensed his body was brimming with energy. The spirit energy he consumed during the fight today was recovered.
Initially, he thought after the destruction of the barrier, the spirit energy contained within it would return back to the caster of the barrier. But, by coincidence, Odin injected his spirit energy into the barrier. Thus, the barrier acknowledged Odin as the caster and returned back to his body instead. It also recovered the consumed spirit energy during the fight.
Seeing nothing unusual happened to him, Odin approached the wooden sculpture on the table. He finally was able to have a clear visual of the wooden sculpture. Out of the blue, a message appeared before him.
【Statue of the Crow God, retrieve it?】
It turned out this tiny one was the Statue of the Crow God. The statue placed outside was used for worshipping while this was the real statue. It was placed within another space.
Clicking ‘yes’, the statue abruptly moved before gingerly dropping onto the table. Firmly it stood at the center of the table.
Odin reached out his arm before hesitating for a moment, but it was a waste to not take it. This statue definitely had its uniqueness and that’s why it was placed in this space alone.
He reached out for the statue. The moment he touched the statue, a sense of weightlessness blanketed him once more, akin to a vortex with dozens of arms constantly pulling him.
This time, he didn’t fluster again. This sensation occurred when he was entering this odd space. Now, he was leaving, so it also had this sensation.
As Odin imagined, after being blinded by a pitch-black, he returned back to the initial room. The statue still remained in the center without any changes happening.
Under these serene surroundings, a ‘clack’ reverberated was particularly out of ordinary. Raising his head, Odin stared at the ceiling, and out of his surprise, the ceiling had a crack in it. It seemed to be going to crumble anytime soon. And, the statue in front of him was starting to tilt at an angle. It was going to fall from the altar soon.
Odin’s heart shivered. Looks like this statue was maintaining the power of the Black Death Society’s HQ. As long as it was removed, the Black Death Society would crumble down.
It was impossible for Odin to examine the statue in his hand right now. Returning back to his dorm was the priority. Besides, he retained his spirit form for an extendable amount of time and if he didn’t return, his body would die of starvation soon.
Odin hurriedly placed the statue into his pocket before storming out of the HQ, heading towards the dormitory’s direction. The instant he stormed out of the HQ, the second floor collapsed, blocking the HQ’s entrances.
It resembled a defense mechanism. Once someone stole the statue, they would be trapped inside the mansion. If Odin were to waste even a single second, he would be trapped inside the HQ too. Once the others came back and found out about the HQ, dying was his remaining option.
He glanced back with a lingering fear before speeding up to return to the dorm.
It was dusk when he arrived at the dorm. Tonight was cloudless. The moon hung itself in the middle of the sky. The silvery moonlight spilled onto the ground, making the surroundings even more tranquil.
Odin tumbled through the window into his dormitory before plunging back into his body.
The moment he entered his body, he felt an abrupt intense hunger. There should be something edible around the dorm. Ignoring the statue in his pocket, Odin casually tossed it onto the bed before rummaging through the cupboard for food.
After eating four loaves of bread, two packs of instant noodles, and two packs of snacks, his hunger finally subsided. He finally had the heart to ponder about the statue he tossed onto the bed.
The statue was a male with long curly hair. His arms were crossing in front of his chest as if praying to someone. However, his face was expressionless and he stared ahead with an icy ruthless gaze.
He wore a robe without wearing any shoes. Beneath his feet wasn’t solid land, but a carving of ocean waves.
