Chapter 126 - Empty catacomb (2)
Even though the hole in front of me looked very small in the beginning, but when I fell in, it sucked me in, so I didn't care about my body size. This made me guess that this place was a passage to the Ghost Clan, but when I opened my eyes, I immediately realized that I fell into a Great catacomb, it wasn't a passage to some Ghost Clan. Am I overthinking it?
Patting the dust off my ass, I kept walking, and then I was in a completely unfamiliar environment. I can't tell whether this place is real or an illusion similar to the one I had with the local cuisine restaurant. In any case, it's very empty inside, with no tomb, and I can't even see the coffin. After all, this place doesn't have any names written on it, right?
"Is anyone there?" The echo was so loud that it was as if the space inside was empty and dark that I couldn't see anything. No one answered. I called out a few more times, but still no one answered. I walked inside by myself, thinking that I am already a Taoist, even if there are ghosts, I can still deal with them!
After walking for almost half an hour, I saw a place similar to a sacrificial altar. A large square table was filled with fresh fruits and offerings. The object that held the fruits was very old, but the food was still very fresh.
Could someone have been here? Or was that really what it was like inside? I didn't know. As I continued to look ahead, I saw many small figures of stone soldiers appear, but all of them had an ox head and a horse mouth. They didn't seem to have any normal human faces, but their bodies were human bodies.
I observed the minotaur's head and mouth and noticed that it looked like a normal human figure made of stone. I unveiled one of the minotaur's body and revealed a face that had no facial features. It was only because he wore a helmet that he looked like he had a face. The helmet was actually made of copper, and it seemed to be of good quality.
If it was specially made for decoration, using such a large number of helmets to put it on, then the owner of the tomb would be quite extravagant. But I can't think like this until I know what's going on. What if the master isn't human?
Continuing forward, I came to a narrow passage. As soon as I set foot on the first step, there was a flash of fire, and two rows of lamplit lamps automatically lit up, lighting up the road in front of me. I could see clearly that this was not a passageway, but there was clearly a deep dark river hidden underground. There was a wooden bridge on top of it for me to directly walk through!
Looking at the flowing water underground, I felt my feet go soft. Because this wooden bridge was built from a huge piece of wood, it looked very simple and crude, so thin that if I accidentally let go, I would immediately fall into that black dark river. I didn't clearly see what was in the river, but I could hear that some kind of creature was rolling in the ground.
The sound of the water made me think of fish for the first time. However, it was very rare for fish to survive in the dark river. In a hurry, I grabbed a lamp by the wall to shine on it. Big fish! And when they saw me step out, they seemed so excited that they all crowded around me and waited for me to fall!
This group of fishes seemed as if they hadn't eaten meat for ten thousand years as they swarmed up the mountain. They looked a bit like the man-eating fishes from the Amazon jungle that I've seen on TV before! They have very long fangs in their mouths. I have never seen this breed of weird fish in the real world! Why did I see it here!? It was absolute!
My legs began to tremble, thinking that if I accidentally lost my life, I would not be able to protect it, so I simply didn't stop there. I closed my eyes, and quickly jumped over this piece of wood, in three seconds, I arrived at the other side, the group of fish below seemed to be lost and scattered, no longer chasing after each other as they jumped out of the water.
"He really is bewitched. I don't even know why he came to this place." I muttered to myself. Luckily, I had the lamp I had just taken off from the wall in my hand. I slowly walked forward during this time, hoping to see something different in order to understand what kind of place it was.
Soon I was in another room. Since I was a child, I went to a lot of catacomb with Aunt Mao, so based on experience, I think I entered another tomb chamber. This tomb chamber is much larger than the one just now, so she should be the main tomb chamber. The is not as beautiful or solemn as I thought, but it is a desolate place inside.
The lid of the catacomb's door had already been opened. I took out a light and shone it on the coffin, but there was nothing inside, only the jade pendant that the people of ancient times carried with them. This jade pendant was vermilion in color and looked very rare.
I looked around the coffin and saw that there were words written on the sides. Some of them didn't look very clear, but there was one thing I understood. They said that whoever entered this place deserved to live forever. It looked like a declaration from some ancient cult. I remember a similar phrase in the Western Inferno of the Divine Comedy, which said, "Those who enter this door should give up all hope."
The saying that all hope should be given up meant that this place was hell, and it was the exact opposite of what was written on the coffin in front of me!
