About 2.3 million years ago, a huge asteroid flew from distant space and set off a huge wave on the surface of Mars.

When it roared down and violently hit the Martian crust, the huge energy caused it to split into millions and billions, ejecting countless large and small fragments. The high temperature and high pressure of the impact quickly vaporized the water ice, causing violent gas detachment, which in turn caused the pit on the ground to collapse, presenting its current appearance.

For Mars exploration, Corinto and its crater are undoubtedly a valuable legacy.

It can not only help humans understand the entire process of the impact event on Mars that year, but also make it easier to collect deeper Martian bedrock and soil with a long history and more information.

More importantly, in the last unmanned exploration and survey, they confirmed by various means that there are a small amount of water ice resources in the Corinto crater.

This may be a relic of the impact, or it may be that the water resources hidden several kilometers under the ground of Saturn were exposed after the impact.

These water ice resources are not directly exposed on the surface, but are covered by a thick layer of Martian ash.

In addition, according to ultrasonic surveys, there may be an ice reservoir located 15 meters underground at the bottom of the secondary crater about ten kilometers away from their current area around the main impact crater.
