Hakai no Miko
Episode 16: Night Assault
There was a group rushing through the mountains where the darkness of the night descended.
Traveling without a single sound reminds me of a ghost.
As he reached the fence set on the slope of the mountain, a sword was pulled out in the hands of the shadow that was at the head, reflecting the stiffness and moonlight. As the other shadows guard their surroundings, they cut the ropes that tie the pillars of the fence and the horizontal trees little by little so as not to make any noise.
When the bumps and ropes break, the other shadows take hold of Yokogi, who was about to fall, slowly lowering him to the ground. Then, when the next Yokogi is similarly removed and the shadows create as much clearance as they can get through, they go through there and back to the next fence.
Repeating this, he finally went through all the fences and into the camp.
Inside the camp, lit by moonlight and stained with blue and white, it was quiet.
The sentries who are supposed to be watching are sitting around with spears and sneaking up on the boat because of the fatigue of the daytime battle.
As the shadows surrounded the outpost, they covered the mouth of the outpost with their hands and at the same time placed a mountain knife on the neck peeking from the collar of the armor, scratching and slashing it all at once. From his impounded mouth, he leaked a slight scream, and the sentinels breathless.
The shadows ran around the camp in search of prey from next to next. Those who were counting the stars in their spare time, those who were leaning against the trees and sleeping, those who were flexible gymnastics in their drowsiness, were all screaming and soon their throats scratched and slashed.
And it came to pass, when one of the shadows had scratched the throat of another sentry, that the door of the house which was to be erected in its front was opened. From there, I don't know if it was time for a change or if I simply woke up pissing, but a middle-aged soldier tried to get outside with a big yawn, looking a little.
"Zo, zoan...?!"
I was directly in front of the soldier, covering his mouth with a black cloth, but the claw braided armor and the fur peeking from under it is definitely Zoan. Illuminated by the blue and white light of the moon, its Zoan was dyeing his mountain knife and arms black with returning blood.
"Enemy attack!
I tried to scream that way, but it was not words but a lot of blood that came out of his throat. Zoan's mountain knife, which jumped about three meters in an instant, was precisely slitting the soldier's throat. But the sound of the soldiers waking up surprised by the sound of his body creeping out of the house.
Having finished the soldier, Zoan told his surrounding companions, exhaling sharply, "Shh!" When he gave the signal, he slashed the mountain knife into the house with his hands. The fellows who hear the signals also enter the house one after the other, and multiple creeping screams continue to rise from inside.
The first soldier to be defeated at the entrance had one last question in mind as consciousness was drunk into the darkness as he heard his companions scream.
"Why would Zoan be here if he didn't even have a drum?".

Garam was on a mountain overlooking the camp where the crime was taking place.
Just as you don't want to miss what's happening there as one thing, don't let that gaze be slight as it's directed at the camp.
There was a change in the camp about how much time passed. And it came to pass from the fire that was placed on the outskirts of the mountainside of the camp, that a small fire was divided, and the fire moved to circle the universe.
"Chieftain! It's a signal!
to the words of Gurkaka, who was next door, Gallam nodded,
"Let's go!
So he took the warriors who had refrained behind him, and ran down the slopes. It was about twenty Zoan warriors with their mouths covered in black cloth who dived through the drilled fence and welcomed Garam into the camp.
All of them say physical stature and face, and they are the elite ones chosen to see.
"Chieftain! All humans are cleaned up!
"The damage...?
"Some of them only suffered minor injuries."
The person I am talking about also had a half-heartedly tone.
But this was a natural consequence.
Originally Zoan is more physically capable than humans. In addition to enough muscle strength and toughness to combine with wild animals, notably its instantaneous power. To the reflex nerves that grab river fish with their bare hands, the acceleration that you do by activating muscles all over your body if you run can be described as explosive.
To wage a white soldier battle from the front without forming such a line with Zoan is tantamount to suicide.
Furthermore, for Zoan, a raw hunter, the dark night is not an obstacle to his actions. It is precisely with the hearing and smell of the beast that we can grasp precisely the position of our enemies and, conversely, approach them without being enlightened by them.
Anyway, if you're on guard against the night raids of the Zoans, and you weren't prepared to do so, you could say that you were relaxed by the daytime victory, that you were losing at the time of the night raid.
"Chieftain! Would you mind telling the safe house about this and un-surveiling Soma?
Even without looking back, its bouncing voice alone conveys Shemr's joy. In contrast, the perplexity could only be passed on briefly.
"... oh"
"Okay, excuse me"
Garam, who was also dropping off Shemr's hindsight running away lightly toward the safe house, finally squeezed out the words after he could no longer see the figure.
"Hey, it's Gurkaka."
"What, chief?
"What the hell have we been up to?
I was trying to fight with all that grievous determination, and Gallum didn't follow this result. The tension I was straining suddenly broke the recoil, and my mind was falling apart, and I didn't know what to do.
"I don't know either. Don't ask me, chief."
◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆
"Soma! You're right, you've got the village under control!
Shemr hands away the young warriors who stood by both sides of the pale horse.
"Surprised. I'm really surprised. I didn't know it would be this easy!
Shemr is surprised, but from a pale horse, Zoan was more surprised that he had never come up with a night raid before.
"If you make a night raid, it falls easily. You were right!
The Ethereal Horse suggested to the Zoans, "Night Assault".
It was just that.
When I saw the Gajeta rampage today, the Ethereal Horse thought it was like a "Banzai Assault".
"Banzai Assault" means that in the Pacific War, the old Japanese army, which was cut off from the supply line and lacked food and ammunition, was infiltrated by the infallible war training nonsurrenderism in the passage "Live and not be humiliated by captives", and did not attempt to surrender to the American army even if they were in a state of retreat, "Hail, Your Majesty! It is about the assault carried out with the" hanging voice.
Over the past few years, Ethereal Horse also knew about the "Banzai Assault" carried out by the old Japanese army, as several films related to the Pacific War had been shown. When I first saw it in the movie with my father, it was like, "Amazing how you were storming through that bullet."
But when I told my military maniac friend about it in the school classroom, he said, "It's not that tactic, it's just ball-shashing. I mean, suicide," he said.
The assault of the former Japanese army, which actually lacked weapons and ammunition, was only a target of outfits for the American army, which was enriched with automatic firearms and artillery. On the contrary, in the Battle of Perriu and the Battle of Iwo Jima, where suicide assaults had been admonished, the U.S. military said they had taken a large number of casualties and rather expected a "banzai assault".
Gajeta's assault, seen during the day, was caused more by overconfidence in their own power and underestimation of humans than by suicide, but the results were similar.
Cutting through the slopes of the mountains would also have been to get wood to build a house, but Ethereal Horse thought the real purpose was to prepare for Zoan's raid. The handsome Zoan, if allowed to approach, also has its tough flesh and is a terrible enemy.
But in addition to the slopes that are difficult to run, the presence of fences that seal their movements. There was nothing more than a kill zone to efficiently kill the Zoans.
It is only natural that Zoan's warriors will be unilaterally killed if they rush in there helplessly.
That was like a former Japanese soldier who roared without any kind of ammunition and popped up in front of guns such as a US military machine gun.
"Why, such recklessness," said the Ethereal Horse, who was watching it.
Try from the Ethereal Horse, if you want to break the fence, you can rock from the slope and drop the round-tails, and if the soldiers were so alarmed, if you ambushed them without bothering to teach them to slap the drums and preemptively attack them, they seemed easier to attack. And yet, I said it in the sense of why such an idiot honestly specializes.
Shemr's answer, however, was only to point out Gajeta's arbitrary devotion and immaturity, and was not a criticism of Gajeta's reckless special attack itself.
That's who the Ethereal Horse felt was a discrepancy between herself and Shemr.
These discrepancies were caused by the fact that the Zoans were originally a species that lived on the plains. You can't even keep your soldiers lurking on a plain with little to block them, and it's really a bump from the front. For the Zoans, who have continued to do so in the battle between tribes long before they fought humans, there was a stereotype that battles were those that ran into each other by name from the front.
In addition, there would have been a strange awareness that if we took it to the Zoans, who are physically far superior to humans, they would be able to fight it off completely against human opponents.
Also, if we actually even broke the fence, the Zoans had a winning chance. When Zoan's forces were still strong, those numbers and force pushes alone broke the fence and allowed him to win several times. Those experiences were causing Zoan and the others to stop skipping the way they fought.
And the success of this night raid also had a cause of defeat on the human side.
Inkdias, the famous general of the Empire, who was there about a hundred years ago and made his name in the war against the subhumans, has been questioned by his men about the conditions of an excellent general, to which he answers:
"Courage to fight Dinosaurians and Dwarves with bows and arrows, stone-throwing and spears in light attire. Wisdom to lure Merman ashore. Leadership to line up a strong shield toward the elf bow and arrow to march undisturbed. Prudence in relying on formation and fighting Zoan with bows and arrows and spears. Patience you can endure until you run out of Harpuran stones and bows and arrows"
This is not only a condition for generals, but is still taught to soldiers from all countries as a basic tactic in the fight against the subhumans.
As it is written here, when fighting Zoan, who runs around the earth agile with four legs, it is fundamental not to allow them to approach, but to fight with bows and arrows and spears. And it was definitely achieving results until the time of Gajeta's rampage.
In other words, it took nearly a hundred years for humans to become the way Zoan fought.
The night attack proposed by the Ethereal Horse, so to speak, was a night attack prepared over a hundred years.
I don't know about that. The Ethereal Horse says, "Aren't people in this world too saggy for anything at all? I thought."
I thought there would be no failures first in the daytime, but still there was anxiety. Sigh of relief inside that you managed to get through it.
That's all I got. It has to be the face of success and commonality.
Shemr is as thrilled as I am that the proposed night raid of the Ethereal Horse succeeded instead.
To that appearance, I hoped this would inspire the Zoans to reconsider that they should not be restrained in their own way of fighting. Otherwise, I'm in trouble. Now it's going to be even further away from the way the Zoans fought.
◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆
The next morning, when Shemr took me to visit the camp, the clean-up had already been carried out by the Zoan warriors.
For the proud warriors, Zoan, even if they are all dead to say hateful men, they are the same wreckage. He was digging holes in nearby mountain skin and burying the body.
The problem is the remains of the abandoned brethren. Originally, Zoan's funeral is to be a bird burial according to myth. Thanks to the cold, however, it did not appear to be corrupt, but it had to be burned with the remains of the tent because of concerns about the spread of death and illness by touching the long abandoned remains.
As the old lady sings a song wishing the soul of the dead rest, she lights the firewood (carcass) piled up around her by Garam. The dry firewood instantly raised a red flame and burned.
The Zoans, who were on the spot, chant to the song of their mother-in-law as they rub their bodies to the left and right.
It is a solemn ritual of the Zoans. The Ethereal Horse, the same person as the perpetrator, could not join it, but watched it from afar.
A few hours later, when the flames of the dam were finally extinguished, the Zoans searched the ashes for the relics of their compatriots.
"A human lad, like Soma"
Gallum walked over to the pale horse who was watching it.
The Ethereal Horse, whose threat was working last night, shook his neck so small that Gallum would do nothing, even though he would jump back unexpectedly.
"Thanks to you, I was able to bury the remains of my compatriots. We could also retrieve the mountain knife of the previous chiefs"
The mountain knife was found to have been held as a loot by one of the human soldiers.
Zoan's sword is a delicacy at the hands of Dwarves. From parent to child, from child to grandson, is what is taken over with the pride and soul of a warrior. For Zoan's warriors, it is their ultimate duty to take over their pride and soul to the next generation of warriors.
"Now the soul of the previous chief... my father will be taken over"
Gallum, who said so, found Shemru walking over here, giving him a familiarity and smiling bitterly. Daitao, you thought he was threatening to show his father's mountain knife to the Ethereal Horse.
"It's Fangs!" What the hell... "
Garam threw his father's mountain knife at Shemr. Shemr rushes to take it.
"This is from the previous chief...?
I often forget the words and see them in a mountain sword that Shemr also recognises.
The father's hand with this mountain knife was that of a gothic warrior who dawned in battle.
But I remember his father's hand when he clumsily stroked the head of the young Shemr, who cried injured, very warm. Shemr makes tears that almost overflow.
"You keep that. Give it to me when you have a baby."
Gallum already has two mountain swords that he gave away from his uncle and grandfather. Besides, Garam knew that in public he wore a mask as a chief and hid it, but that his father was more worried than anyone about Shemr, who had been given the burden of being his son in these times. I gave my father's mountain knife to Shemr out of the thought of saying that my father would be a little relieved.
"Now I have nothing to remember. All you have to do is go wild."
With the food that humans were sigging in, we could also get the old men and children out of the land. All you have to do is intercept the human army along with the remaining warriors, as long as you don't have any worries about your hindsight.
Yes, Gallum was thinking.
But the Ethereal Horse, not knowing that, said plainly.
"Well, keep an eye on him first. I don't want those people to know I took this place back because there might be regular contact or scouts coming from the fort"
Eye-eyed Galam and Shemr stare at him, and the Ethereal Horse panics.
"You follow my instructions, don't you?
The Ethereal Horse thought his proposed night raid had worked, so he thought he was somewhat more appreciative of himself. And yet I'm in a hurry to be chased away because they say I'm already used to it.
Unaware of such a pale horse's impatience, Garam said in dismay.
"Are you telling me you're going to get rid of the army that's coming too?
"Yes...?
Both Gallam and Shemr lost their words to the Ethereal Horse, which they take for granted.
The "Battle of Hognalea Hills" was about to begin, described in a later world as the first battle of "Soma Xaki, Son of Destruction".
