Hakai no Miko
Lesson 58: Reverse Scale
A small fort Garaf between the westernmost city of the Holmeer Country, L'Oma, and the crossing of the Conte River.
It's a peripheral fort where only two hundred people reside during normal times. But after the rebel slaves in the city of Bornis began to show disturbing movements, a thousand soldiers, five times as many, were pushed in to prepare for the unforeseen.
But now even more humans were gathered at this Fort Garraf.
What is new to the fort is the nominally 30,000, or nearly 20,000 crusaders in real numbers, who have come to crusade the rebel slaves who occupied the crossing. Even Fort Garraf, which was overflowing with people, could not possibly accommodate as many as 20,000 new arrivals at last, and many of the crusaders camped with tents around the fort.
"To the generals and lords who are here, it goes without saying that our aim is the crusade of the slaves who rebelled!
Among the countless tents set up to surround such Fort Garraf, it was Huakis, the substantial commander of the Holmeer nation's strongest regiment, the Black Wall, who raised his voice among the international great tents.
What was taking place in this tent was a face-to-face military debate led by Prince Alexius, who was the Lord of the Crusaders, such as the Horsemen who had joined the officers of the "Black Wall".
"I think we have already heard that the rebel slaves were driven away by surprise by the fort of Hariboth. And then, before this crossing, they brought in the material that they had been cutting out of the mountains upstream, and they were steadily building the fort."
Alexius asks when Huakis, who makes the situation known, cuts the words.
"How many rebel slaves are gathered in the fort?
"Answer Your Highness! The total number of enemies is roughly seven to eight thousand. But it's not a big fort enough to accommodate all of that. No matter how packed, about a thousand people at most. Most of the slaves are reported to be in front of the fort by scouts."
And Alexius makes a surprised face.
"Well, that was unexpected..."
Alexius thought that we would use the fort as a barrier to stop the momentum of our own crusaders. And I was reading that the main unit would put it this way as a retreat and bring it into a retreating war of attrition while attacking the crusaders who broke through the fort, but on the contrary, it is surprising that it would be placed in front of the fort.
"Does the enemy's formation in front of the fort mean that the slaves intercepted us in this land?
"Ha! Your Highness seems to be right"
Alexius laughed even though Huakis agreed.
"What fools! Just once, you beat an army outnumbered, you seem to be on track."
Alexius, who mocked and laughed slightly, asks Hyakis.
"Do, it's Hyuakis. How do we deal with the slaves on the diagram?
"Yes. We are looking to divide our army into five units. - First, the First Army, consisting of the Archer Battalion and the Light Infantry Battalion"
Huakis placed one pawn on a map spread over a large table placed in the center of the tent.
"The Second Army consists of a regiment of heavily armed spear infantry with 'Black Wall' at its core. Third and fourth armies gathering tanks and light infantry"
Next place the biggest pawn behind the first pawn you place, plus one pawn to the left and right of it.
"And we will place the Fifth Army at the rear."
Finally, he placed one pawn in the slightly remote rear position of the pawn indicating the Fourth Army.
"First, we open the end of the battle in the First Army. Where bows and arrows and spears have disrupted enemy formation, the Second Army, the Heavy Spear Infantry Regiment, will advance in a dense formation and crush the enemy. If the third and fourth armies defend the sides of the second armies while watching the aircraft and launching attacks from both sides, the enemy will collapse at once.
And His Highness Alexius will command all the armies in the rear Fifth Army. In the unlikely event of unforeseen circumstances, you will lead the Fifth Army in dealing with them. "
Alexius nodded with satisfaction.
Huakis' suggestion is an uninteresting way of fighting stone streets. However, in the current situation, where this number of soldiers is overwhelming the enemy, it is the right method of striking the opponent from the front to the top that can unleash its power, rather than the way in which it fought badly.
While I don't think anyone has any objections to this, it's customary for military deliberations to say, "Any objections?" and confirm it to the generals and the Horsemen.
"May I, Your Highness?"
However, contrary to Alexius' expectations, one of the lords raised his hand and asked for forgiveness to speak.
Alexius picks up that lord's name from the bottom of his memory with a slight discomfort, even though it didn't do what he thought it would.
"You were Baron Cantobias. - Forgive me. If you have any opinions, you can state them."
Its lord was Baron Cantobias, who brought the news of the fall of Marben Copper Mountain to the King's capital as soon as possible. Baron Cantobias had joined the Crusaders earlier than any other.
Baron Cantobias first expressed his gratitude to Alexius for allowing him to speak before speaking out in the main.
"As Lord Huakis said, I hear the rebel slaves are staying at the crossing and building fortifications. If we continue with our army, it will be a battle around here."
Baron Cantobias pointed out on the map a plain stretching out in front of the crossing.
"This crossing of the Conte River and the surrounding area are stretched with plains with few ups and downs. There are no forests, no mountains, just enough land to deploy a large army and unleash its power."
So Baron Cantobias turns his gaze to Alexius. Then Alexius nodded and showed him, not saying "what else".
After a beat, Baron Cantobias tells him to chew it up slowly.
"So, isn't that strange?
To this word, Alexius frowned slightly.
"This land is no place where anyone can pick up and shoot more enemy troops than they can count no matter how they look. Rather, it is a land that will help you crush the enemies of the widows with a great army. If you couldn't choose a battlefield because you were cornered, would the rebel slaves who moved their soldiers before us choose this place as a battlefield?
Alexius laughed inside, with his nose wondering if every slave was so turning his head. But sooner than I put that into words, I lose that opportunity because Huakis leaked a word that I would endorse as "sure sounds crazy".
"... I see. Sir, do you think the rebel slaves have any idea what to do?
"It's my pleasure. Your Highness."
A yawning voice broke out from the marquis who were in the tent in the exchange between Alexius and Baron Cantobias.
The marquis joined this crusade while they were still in danger of being invaded by the insurgent slave ambushes after they decided that it was now time for the insurgent slave crusade to succeed. But I couldn't help but be upset when they heard that I was here and that the rebel slaves were moving with the intention of beating this one.
While offended by the Hordes and their inspired Baron Cantobias, who now shows agitation, Alexius points to the map.
"But Sir is right, the crossing and its surroundings are plains. I can't afford to do anything about it. If the slaves tried to do something, they would be marching all the way to Fort Garraf, where there are forests, valleys, etc."
Alexius said in a slow tone, as he told the agitated lords.
"Still, Sir, what do they say about the Son of Destruction?
To Alexius's inquiry, the gaze in the tent gathers to Baron Cantobias. Under the pressure of those gazes, Baron Cantobias, after a period of silence, said:
"... I don't know"
"What do you mean, I don't know?
Says Baron Cantobias, whilst wandering in the language of a frustrating pursuit of Alexis.
"In our ingenious self, we don't know what the hell he's up to. - As it were, it was only five years ago that the Crusaders were defeated, or the other day the Marben Copper Mountain raid infiltrated a few elite troops deep within Holmea. It doesn't seem to me that the Son of Destruction, who did all that, would choose a land like this for a showdown without any thought."
Baron Cantobias says at last not only to Alexius, but also to the generals and the marquises who are in the tent.
"There is a saying that there is truth in the battle. Vain is where protection is weak. The truth is that the protection is strong. If you avoid fruit and fight for it, your enemies will make it look real and fruitless. Also, that's the same here. Therefore, the battle is called vain.
Also, false is false. Means measures. In contrast, fruit means actual force or action.
If you calmly compare him to me, it is clear that the rebel slaves are inferior to our forces. That's why they should see 'void' as - using measures.
And "Son of Destruction" is just a rare (wanting) contriver who makes "void" possible. I think he's trying to intercept us with some horrible strategy. "
It is a statement that waters it down even though it is now the stage of finally crusading the rebel slaves. Now, the few marquises who had joined the ranks were also upset and anxiously starting to look at each other.
Likewise, Alexius asks as he sees that he is about to leak his tongue.
"So, Sir, do you want me to do it?
"My apologies for your loss. - You shouldn't be riding their thoughts here. This one leverages the interests of the great army, divides the legions into several units, and sieges the crossing far away. And if they are intimidated day and night, they will always make a noise and either go out or retreat."
Baron Cantobias nodded, "I see."
But Alexius alone is the exception.
Anyway, for Alexius, this rebel slave crusade was about breaking General Darius' curse.
So far Alexius, as general of the Holmeer nation, has commanded the battle, in all of which he has decorated it with victory. But that's how Alexius, no matter how many war histories he accumulates or how many victories he wins, always stands before him in Darius' accomplishments.
But the opponent of this battle is the enemy who defeated that Darius. If we beat this, everyone will have to admit that they will prevail over General Darius. You can finally cut off the shadow of Darius, who has cursed you for years.
It is a battle that is a good opportunity for a thousand encounters. He had a strong obsession to decorate with great victory in the glorious arena of a confrontation between legions in the flatlands.
Baron Cantobias goes on to try to flirt with Alexius on his face, who is not comfortable with his own dedication.
"Your Highness, please take care of yourself. Nothing is just a battle to bump an army into. Is it not also the battle of kings to ambush enemies with authority?"
As Baron Cantobias, it was meant to be a no push suggestion.
But this becomes an unexpected silence.
…… What did you just say...?
Alexius rose out of his chair in the shape of anger.
