Harry Potter and the Candy Factory
#39 - Light
"Rather..."
Draco held the handkerchief in one hand, his eyes fixed on the silver needle wrapped inside, while the other hand picked up the wand he had casually placed on the lawn.
Charlie raised an eyebrow, said nothing, and calmly watched his next move.
"Trans..."
As the incantation in his mouth changed from a low murmur to a gradually rising tone, the wand in Draco's hand also began to sway and flutter.
The corner of Charlie's mouth couldn't help but curl upwards, because he noticed that, even though only a day had passed, Draco's grip on the wand could already be said to be identical to his own.
Whether it was the slightly raised little finger, or the index finger, middle finger, and thumb lightly pinching the wand, there were no flaws.
This is really quite interesting... A strange sense of accomplishment welled up in Charlie's heart.
Maybe I should try being a teacher?
I feel like I have a talent for this...
Charlie couldn't help but think.
At the tip of Draco's wand, light slowly condensed as the incantation was chanted.
"...figuration!!"
Finally, the last part of the Transfiguration spell was uttered from his mouth, and Draco's wrist flicked!
Just like when Charlie demonstrated it to him that day.
His wrist also flicked, drawing a beautiful arc in mid-air.
"Beautiful!" Even Charlie couldn't help but praise him in his heart.
But unfortunately... although the posture was imitated perfectly, and was not much different from his own casting posture.
But Charlie already knew that he was going to fail again this time.
Sure enough, as expected.
The light burst out from the tip of the wand, accurately hitting the silver needle, and accompanied by a "嗡!!!!" buzzing sound.
The needle, which had already begun to twist and transform from a hard texture back into a soft one, suddenly twitched as if out of control.
It began to窜动 wildly on Draco's handkerchief, and finally, accompanied by a wisp of faint black smoke, it twisted into a ball, like a used paper clip.
"Tsk..."
Draco lowered his head somewhat dejectedly, his mouth pouting, and the originally firm look in his eyes disappeared without a trace, turning into a mournful look.
"I originally wanted to turn it into an earthworm."
Draco drooped the corners of his mouth, looked up at Charlie, who was leaning against the big tree, looking relaxed and at ease, and sniffed in complaint.
"I thought I could do it after practicing all morning..."
As he spoke, Draco's anger also rose, so he simply threw his wand on the lawn again, and then, without further ado, picked up the entire teapot and began to pour water into his mouth, tilting his head back.
Charlie sighed, and then lazily straightened up from the big tree he was leaning against.
He snatched the kettle from Draco's hand, and refilled the already empty cup for him. Charlie raised his head and said simply and directly
"You've fallen into a misunderstanding."
After saying that, he handed the water cup to Draco.
"What is the essence of magic reliant on, do you know?"
Draco took the water cup, and upon hearing Charlie's question, his head froze.
He frowned, racked his brains to think for a while, and then tentatively gave an answer?
"Saying spells?"
"There are many wizards in the world who can cast spells silently. They don't need to say spells at all when using magic. Think again."
Charlie shook his head, his expression calm, and directly denied Draco's answer.
"Wan... wand?"
Draco shrank his neck and tentatively gave another answer.
This time, Charlie didn't answer him, but instead stretched out his hand directly.
"Look closely here..."
As Charlie spoke, the five fingers of his hand slowly opened, and danced in front of Draco in a strange rhythm.
Draco pursed his lips, and according to his uncle's words, focused his attention and widened his eyes, gathering all his attention on his hands.
The next moment, something that shocked him happened.
In between Charlie's dancing fingers, clusters of fingernail-sized flames floated out of thin air, and began to freely shuttle around his fingers, as if they had life.
"This this this...!!!" Draco's grip on the water cup was unsteady, and it fell onto the lawn all at once, and he jumped straight up from the ground with a "咻".
"What is this!? How is this possible!?"
Charlie was naturally not surprised by Draco's reaction.
"I once went to Nauru near the equator to find a magical plant used to make candy... The wizards who live there call themselves priests. They engrave tattoos with special meanings on their bodies to increase their perception of magic..."
Charlie opened his mouth and told a story slowly.
"Thereby replacing the role of the wand and achieving the effect of casting spells with bare hands."
Draco's eyes widened, his small mouth slightly open, and he seemed unable to calm down for a long time because of this unheard-of story.
"Do you know what I want to say?"
Charlie simply stood up, patted the specks of grass stuck to his pants.
This time, he didn't wait for Draco to answer. After asking this question, he gave the answer on his own.
"Whether it's spells... or wands. They are just mediums you use to communicate with magic."
"Spells are to visualize the originally invisible magic so that it can be more easily perceived by wizards. And the wand is used to assist, through the medium to truly solidify the visualized magic!"
Draco's pupils couldn't help but light up. After hearing this, for some reason, an unprecedented sense of enlightenment burst out from his mind.
He took a deep breath, staring intently at his uncle's mouth, as if he wanted to engrave every word he had said in the deepest part of his mind, without missing a single one.
"The real essence of releasing a magic is your brain, your consciousness, your spirit."
Charlie squatted down, picked up the wand that Draco had thrown on the lawn in a fit of pique, and leaned over to insert it into his pants pocket.
"Beautiful casting movements are icing on the cake, allowing you to cast faster, provided you can ensure that you can complete the spell. This allows you to react one step ahead when dueling or encountering danger."
"Obviously, Draco. You've missed the point... What you need to do now is not to perfectly replicate my casting movements, but to make your spirit more available to yourself. To be able to construct the entire magic in your mind through your own thoughts."
Speaking of this, Charlie paused, and he deliberately looked at Draco's eyes.
The light of knowledge in his eyes was shining brightly, causing Charlie to sigh inwardly.
Such light can only be seen in the eyes of children.
