Heartless
Chapter 24:Are You Okay?
It wasn't long before I was able to go back to school.
"Are you teaching my morning class as well?" I asked August when I saw him in the classroom. He was cleaning the whiteboard, his brown hair was poofy as if he had just taken a shower and hair blowered it.
"No! Not at all, if I did then wouldn't you be jobless?" he asked in a joking manner. I kept myself in check, although someone treating me in such a way was rare, it wasn't anything to feel uncomfortable about.
"Can I help you with anything?" if he wasn't here to teach, then what would he be here for?
"I'm just here in case you have to take an immediate absence, that's all,' he replied.
"I see," I said and the conversation sank into silence.
"Are you okay?" he suddenly asked out of the blue. I was sitting on my desk by that time, thinking about what to teach the children. I suppose I could do what I did last year, teach them about defence. Most of the species I have here were strong in offense, but not in defence. The only problem was that human, unless of course he was a halfie.
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"...it's nothing," he awkwardly replied while shaking his head and so we sank into a slightly awkward silence. Only the sounds of his footsteps was heard as he walked around looking for something to do.
"Do you have lunch?" he asked, trying to break the ice of silence.
"I suppose," I responded, instantly killing of the conversation.
"Ah, I've been teaching the students about the hierarchy."
"In depth?"
"Then I'll teach them more about that, how far are you into the lesson?"
"I've finished telling them how to change the ranking."
"Have you told them how one of their species can possibly override the system?"
"Yes."
"What were you planning to teach them today?"
"How interbreeding can mess up the hierarchy."
"I see, I'll take over that aspect for this class then. Your a werewolf, correct?"
"How did you know?" he asked, his brown eyes growing rounder.
"Your eyes," I replied, his eyes was like the brown of Earth and he smelled like the forest, a smell that most wolves had. You could tell a lot by the eyes, and one could tell that he was too soft hearted and was most likely shunned by his pack.
Of course, the eyes was one of the easiest ways to tell if one was a werewolf. At certain points, their eyes would shine an amber sheen, a color that no other species had. They could come close, but it was never the same. Of course, this didn't apply to all wolves, some had a blueish silver sheen in their eyes.
