Heartless
Chapter 34:The Consequences
I waited till the last moment to grab her hand. Although the spiritual power behind it was strong, the punch was still weak. The body this vampire had possessed was that of a normal teenager, without any fighting background of any sorts. After a person's death, their muscles would no longer develop and so it wouldn't be that hard to stop it. However, if one didn't have a strong mental aptitude, then the spiritual power behind the attack would no doubt overwhelm them. But living for more than hundreds of years didn't amount to nothing.
Even then, a slight burst of pain could be felt where her fist connected with my palm. She quickly countered with a kick to the side, though the physical body was hindering her and I was able to keep hold of her hand as I blocked the kick with my other hand.
"Stupid body," she whispered under her breath as she continued a barrage of attacks aimed at my vital points. What made it harder was that I couldn't move backwards and I couldn't dodge her attacks for she might escape the moment I did.
As the sun rose up from the horizon, the pedestrians started to slowly trickle in the the rumbling engines of the cars could be heard. I reprimanded myself of the fact that I had forgotten to put up a barrier around the bridge that would've prevented outsiders to see this fight. If I was lucky, none have called for the police yet and have simply ignored this fight.
I quickly took out a rectangular piece of wood and threw it behind me, hoping that I didn't throw it too far. This simple piece of wood was created for the sole purpose of situations like this and is a token of the past. As I had been caught off guard from the vampire, I had forgotten to place a concealing field around the bridge that would've prevented them from seeing and hearing anything that went on on the bridge.
"Afraid of the humans?" she asked me with a savage grin as she went for a punch to my face.
"What makes you think so?" I quickly intercepted the blow and threw a punch of my own. She just smiled at me with a knowing look and I didn't bother to clarify.
At some point, she took out a pocket knife that was stowed away in one of the pockets in her baggy jeans and started to slash at me. Since the beginning, she was already at an advantage as her only goal was to step off this bridge. Adding to that, within the forest, the only way to past time would no doubt be fighting each other and so our level of combat experience may be close to equivalent.
I side stepped her stabbing motion and she took it as an opportunity to escape. I yanked her hair hard enough for her to stumble backwards, throwing her off balance. While she was down, I quickly kicked her towards the forest before she could react. As the vampire was only temporarily with the body, it didn't experience the bodies pain and was rather like a zombie, except intelligent.
I rushed towards her and stepped on the hand with the knife in it, crushing the bone. A loud snapping sound resounded throughout the area that was devoid of all people. But it probably won't take long before pedestrians started to trickle down.
"I just wanted to see my home...." she whispered to me, "is that so bad?"
"Who you are, what you want, will never have anything to do with me," I responded as bent down to pick up the pocket knife. She grabbed my hand and said, "why are you so cruel?"
"I am not as cruel as the world we live in," I responded to her, shaking her off her grip.
"But can't you show even a bit of kindness?" she pleaded, desperation in her eyes.
"Were you kind when you killed the innocents?" I asked her back as I went to crush the rest of her limbs to make sure that she wouldn't be able to walk. Even if you weren't able to feel pain, that is useless if the limbs can't be used in the first place.
"So what about those that I have killed? You humans kill chickens and pigs without a thought, what's the difference?"
"Stop! I don't want to die!" the vampire wailed, wanting to try but unable to.
"You broke the rule of the forest, and the consequences will always result in death, did you not know this?"
