Heartless

Chapter 36:The Haunted Bridge

There is a ghost by the forest who only ever appeared during the day, but few have seen her at night. When that happens, there is almost sure to be death the following day, or so says the rumors. It seems to be true.

Just before dawn arrived, someone had seen a fight and called the police. The police arrived, but they were gone, the bridge looking as usual but the scenery so still it was unnerving. In the end, they decided to call it a prank call.

But one of the policemen noticed something, he didn't believe in the supernatural and didn't care for the rumors. He noticed that you couldn't place a single foot onto the bridge no matter how hard you try, as if there was an invisible wall in front of him. He instantly reported it, of course. It didn't take long for a crowd to gather in curiosity, the police unable to stop them.

"Something's been thrown over the bridge!" someone called out and a few minutes later, she appeared.

Wearing a white lab coat, her gaze was like those of a dead fish and her face an iceberg without a single flaw. Her silver hair tied up into a ponytail, her body emitting a cold aura.

"A ghost!" someone yelled, and all turned to chaos. They fled like startled deer, like mice fleeing from a flood. A ghost, that was all that could be said, how else could someone appear out of thin air? The rumors were true, the girl by the bridge was truly a ghost.

"May I help you?" she asked in a chilling voice that forced others to be unable to say and just shake their heads, paralyzed in fear.

"Is that so?" she continued to ask, making the remaining people feel like they were being pressed up against a corner.

"Are you truly a ghost?" the policeman asked, unfazed due to his disbelief.

"How would I know?" she asked with a shrug.

"Have you died?" he asked, his black hair a contrast to her silver one.

"Yes, have you?"

"How would I know?" he asked with a shrug, mirroring her exact move from earlier.

"I wouldn't know how you would know, I am not you," she replied, her face unchanging.

"Tell me, you wouldn't perhaps know anything about the fight this morning?"

"A fight? This morning?" her voice was monotone, making people feel like she was reading from a textbook.

"Yes, her on the bridge," by this point, many people have shaken themselves from their fear and walked away in a daze. A few, however, stayed to listen to this juicy piece of gossip, discouraged by the policeman's annoyed face that screamed, 'get the f*ck out of here.'

"That would leave quite a bit of evidence, now wouldn't it?"

"What do you think?"
