Chapter 175
"Professor Flitwick, it's me, Devereux, here to ask you about the dueling spell you agreed to teach me."
Devereaux knocked on the door and told him why he was there.
However, after he finished speaking, an uncomfortable silence fell in the room. There was no immediate response, not even any movement.
Devereaux frowned slightly. He knew that Professor Flitwick always had a regular schedule, especially at noon, when he would almost always be in the office dealing with matters. The conversation that I heard vaguely just now is still echoing in my ears - the professor was still inside just now.
But the silence made people feel a little strange.
After a few seconds, footsteps finally came from inside, slow and hesitant, as if someone was thinking about something. The footsteps stopped in front of the door, and after a moment of pause, the sound of the door lock was heard.
The door opened, revealing the small figure of Professor Flitwick.
"Devereaux! Haha, did you have fun last night?"
Flitwick looked no different from usual, with a brisk tone and a usual smile on his face, as if nothing just happened.
"Come in and sit down! I believe that with your talent, you can master this spell very quickly."
Devereaux smiled and nodded, walking past Flitwick into his office.
His eyes kept looking inside, and he was a little curious about who the person who had just quarreled with Flitwick was.
But this time Devereux's expectations were dashed.
There was no one inside, only floor-to-ceiling bookshelves neatly arranged on three sides and a few ordinary furnishings.
The bookshelf near the window is filled with books about spells. The color of the spines ranges from dark blue to dark red, exuding an ancient atmosphere.
The other side of the bookshelf is occupied by educational books, mostly on teaching theory and student psychology.
The side closest to Flitwick's desk looked a bit messy, with a wide variety of books ranging from introductory alchemy to modern history of magic, almost haphazardly mixed together.
What really caught Devereaux's attention, however, was the small door in the corner. After he opened the door, he found a small space for practicing spells, with a dummy model placed in the center. It looked similar to the dummy he used when practicing in the duel club.
This was obviously the place Flitwick used to test spells. There were still faint burn marks and cracks on the walls and floor, like traces left by countless magical impacts.
Devereux extended his perception to encompass the entire office, including the practice room. He even entered a meditative state, letting his magical tentacles touch every corner.
The result was - nothing.
It was indeed just him and Professor Flitwick in the room, without any hidden people or strange magic fluctuations.
"Am I overly concerned?" Devereux frowned slightly, but didn't want to go into details. He put away his senses and glanced casually at Flitwick's desk. There were only two books on it.
One is a standard spell textbook for senior students at Hogwarts, and its cover has been turned over and faded slightly; the other is very special, the book cover is aqua blue, but the title is blurry, as if it has been deliberately printed. The magic is hidden.
Even though Devereux entered a meditative state and spread his senses throughout the office and the room used to practice spells, he didn't notice anyone hiding in the room.
Devereaux frowned slightly, but he didn't think much about it.
He returned to the too-low table and sat down in a large, slightly comical chair. Professor Flitwick also followed in, closing the door with his usual kind smile on his face, even a little more cheerful than usual.
"Okay, Devereaux," Flitwick said with a smile, "What I'm going to teach you today is a very powerful binding spell."
He raised his wand, a glint in his eye.
"This spell is different from the common 'whole body binding spell' - it can not only bind tangible things, but also lock intangible things. Such as ghosts, resentful spirits, and even some powerful spirits. After all, like the petrification spell, You are probably already proficient in basic magic and don’t need me to teach you anymore, right?”
After Flitwick finished speaking, he smiled proudly and even whistled a short melodious whistle.
Devereaux raised his eyebrows, remaining focused on the surface but alert on the inside.
"Professor seems to be in a higher mood today than usual?"
He did not interrupt rashly, but silently unfolded the panel and took a quick glance at Flitwick's status.
The displayed results are normal. It was indeed Flitwick himself, there was no sign of disguise, and there were no strange changes in his entries. Everything is business as usual.
This made the stone hanging in Devereux's heart drop a little.
So he settled down and started listening to Flitwick talk about this new spell.
...
It must be said that the difficulty of this spell is astonishing. Even the powerful Devereux barely mastered the core essentials after carefully studying two demonstrations by Professor Flitwick.
He closed his eyes and replayed the movements and spell casting tracks just taught in his mind repeatedly until every detail was crystal clear. He took a deep breath and held his wand steady.
"Confinement them all!"
The tip of the wand instantly shot out several translucent filaments, which twisted in the air and quickly wrapped around the dummy in the room like hunting vines.
These filaments seem illusory, but they contain a strong binding force. They are like an invisible net, firmly fixing the dummy in place. Even the dummy's simulated high-intensity struggle cannot break free.
Deverot stared at the filaments and carefully felt the flow of magic power. Each strand carried a strange fluctuation, as if tracking something.
"It is worthy of being a spell designed specifically for spirits," Deverot thought to himself, "both the binding force and the effect are far beyond the ordinary full-body binding spell."
Seeing that Deverot had performed this complex spell almost perfectly in just two attempts, Professor Flitwick's face was full of relief. He raised his hands and applauded enthusiastically, and the sound echoed in the room.
"It's really great, Deverot! I didn't make a mistake!"
Deverot nodded slightly to the professor to show his gratitude.
Before leaving, Deverot once again used his perception to scan the entire office, including the practice room behind the small door. However, the result was still the same as before - nothing was gained.
He had no choice but to give up, bid farewell to Professor Flitwick, and walked out of the office.
Deveraux left, and when his footsteps were far away.
Flitwick slowly walked to his desk and chair.
He sat down.
Then his expression changed from a smile just now to a little terrified.
A voice echoed faintly in the room.
"Flitwick, you know very well that I can easily break the protective spell. This is giving you a chance, don't let me down."
