Hogwarts: This wizard wants to make progress too much
#14 - Section 14
Although Professor McGonagall didn't look pleased, she ultimately achieved her goal.
Every year, during the first Transfiguration lesson for new students, Professor McGonagall would use her Animagus form to 'entrap' students. Her goal was to highlight the power of Transfiguration while simultaneously attracting the interest of young wizards and intimidating them.
"That's amazing!" Ron complimented, hoping to avoid punishment.
"Thank you for your praise, Mr. Weasley."
"Perhaps turning Mr. Potter and Mr. Li into a wristwatch would be more effective. Maybe then you would understand the meaning of punctuality."
Clearly, Professor McGonagall was still bothered by the 'old McGonagall' comment.
"We got lost!" Harry explained quickly, feeling worried about being late for the first lesson, especially with their own Head of House.
"Then turn yourselves into a map!"
In the end, Professor McGonagall didn't make things too difficult for them:
"Finding your seats shouldn't require a map, I presume!"
Chapter 25: Transfiguration Class
"Transfiguration is some of the most dangerous and complex magic you will learn at Hogwarts."
As she spoke, Professor McGonagall's sharp eyes swept across all the young wizards present:
"Anyone who dares to misbehave in my classroom will be asked to leave and never allowed to return."
The young wizards sat up straight, barely daring to breathe, even the Slytherins who were usually at odds with Gryffindor.
Professor McGonagall looked satisfied with the students' behavior, then tapped the desk with her wand, transforming it into a pig.
The pig even circled the classroom before returning to its original position and reverting to its desk form.
This demonstration elicited gasps of amazement from the young wizards below.
As a seasoned professor, McGonagall understood how to stir the students' emotions.
Then, with a wave of her wand, the once-empty blackboard was filled with writing, covered in the basic theories of Transfiguration and various precautions.
"Unlike other magic, Transfiguration doesn't have fixed spells or incantations. Of course, beginners can use 'Transfigure!' as a spell to aid in casting."
"It relies on understanding the essence of magic, using your vast mental strength, and with magic as a foundation, manifesting the changes you envision in the real world, altering the properties and structure of objects, and it must be something you have sufficient knowledge of…"
Professor McGonagall pointed to the knowledge points on the blackboard, explaining to the young wizards:
"However, Transfiguration cannot create food, nor can you eat food that has been Transfigured. Secondly, you cannot change the quantity; one quill cannot become two doves. Finally, Transfiguration is not creating something from nothing; there must be a medium."
After Professor McGonagall finished explaining, the young wizards each took out their quills and began taking notes. Even though Ethan already understood this knowledge, he still wrote it down.
Once the explanation was over, it was time for practice. Professor McGonagall gave each young wizard a matchstick, and the task was to transform the matchstick into a needle.
Professor McGonagall didn't expect these young wizards to complete this task in one lesson. It was a long-term process, but once completed, they would have mastered the basics of Transfiguration.
Changes between inanimate objects are the simplest, especially between small and simple items.
"I asked you to turn it into a needle, not charcoal."
"Calm down, concentrate. No matter how much you poke the matchstick with your wand, it won't change."
Professor McGonagall walked up and down the aisles of the classroom, correcting the mistakes of each young wizard.
Especially in the Hufflepuff section, Professor McGonagall lingered for an exceptionally long time.
"Ethan, how did you do it?"
Michael exclaimed in surprise as he watched the matchstick in front of Ethan change into a needle, and then continuously transform between three sizes: large, medium, and small.
The two students sitting in front also turned their heads. Their matchsticks hadn't changed at all, while Ethan's had already succeeded. The difference was too great.
At this moment, they all wanted to hear if Ethan had any tips.
"The more specific the image of the needle in your mind, the easier it is to succeed. Also, control your magic, don't set the matchstick on fire. Finally, take a closer look at what Professor McGonagall wrote on the blackboard and try again."
"I actually practiced Transfiguration during the summer vacation, so I succeeded so quickly."
Even if one couldn't directly turn it into a needle after understanding what Professor McGonagall said, it was still possible to make it change, but it was really hard to explain exactly how it changed.
"Mr. Adryan, a very good transformation."
Professor McGonagall walked over to Ethan, looked at the scene before her, and said with considerable satisfaction.
During the initial visit, she felt that Ethan had a very high talent for Transfiguration. It was a pity he didn't come to Gryffindor.
"Because of Mr. Adryan's excellent Transfiguration spell, Ravenclaw gains five points."
Professor McGonagall announced publicly, picking up the needle that Ethan had transformed.
In an instant, the eyes of the entire classroom turned to Ethan, and the Ravenclaw students were especially excited, bursting into applause.
It's him again!
Yesterday's Sorting Hat, today's Transfiguration class. Why is it always him, a Mudblood, who's in the limelight?
Draco Malfoy glared at Ethan fiercely, but didn't dare to show it.
After all, he really couldn't beat Ethan!
And he didn't dare to tell his father. He couldn't bring himself to say such a shameful thing, being beaten by a Mudblood!
He was even more afraid to tell the upperclassmen of Slytherin. If they knew, the Malfoy family might be laughed at for two and a half years.
Cassandra and Hermione accelerated the speed of waving their wands. Both of them had the idea of competing with Ethan today.
Especially Cassandra, who lost the fire spell competition on the train yesterday, was determined to overwhelm Ethan in Transfiguration class and bring glory to Slytherin.
"Thank you, Professor!"
Ethan said with a smile.
At the moment Professor McGonagall added points, he completed another achievement.
[Score Slave]
Points, ever-increasing points, I can give everything for higher scores
Achievement Goal: Add points for the college you are in once (1/1)
Achievement Reward: Transfiguration Talent Improvement
This reward is really what I need!
Perhaps it was because the points were added in Transfiguration class, so it was Transfiguration talent!
A class is only an hour long, not long. Near the end of class, a cry of surprise came from the Slytherin side:
"Professor McGonagall, we Slytherins have succeeded too."
This was the excited voice of a young wizard. He was looking in Cassandra's direction, appearing quite thrilled, as if he were the one who had succeeded.
Although she didn't come out on top, she still surpassed Gryffindor, didn't she?
Professor McGonagall, hearing this, walked over with a faint smile. She hadn't expected two young wizards to succeed in the first lesson. She didn't actually have any prejudice against Slytherin; she just felt a little sorry that none of her own house's students had managed to succeed.
After holding up the needle, shimmering with a silvery-white light, for everyone to see, she announced, "Miss Worley has also succeeded. Two points to Slytherin."
However, Cassandra didn't seem particularly happy.

Chapter 26: After-School Tutoring
"Professor McGonagall, do you have time to answer a few questions for me?"
After class, Ethan quickly ran towards Professor McGonagall.
Compared to charms, Ethan's progress in transfiguration had been much slower this summer. He was still stuck on the second step: transfiguring inanimate objects into animals.
"Of course!"
Professor McGonagall nodded with a smile.
Before entering Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall had told him that he could ask her any questions he didn't understand. She wasn't just saying it for show, even though Ethan hadn't been sorted into Gryffindor.
"Come with me first, let's talk in my office!"
With that, she led Ethan away. In her opinion, Ethan's level was far beyond that of the other young wizards; the questions he asked would certainly not be things taught at this stage.
For these young wizards who hadn't even mastered the basics, knowing more advanced knowledge would be of no benefit at all; it would only make them think more and still fail at transfiguration.
The competition is really too fierce!
From the moment Ethan approached Professor McGonagall, Cassandra's gaze was fixed on him.
She hadn't expected Ethan to seek extra help from the professor after already achieving a small goal in transfiguration.
He was completely leaving no way for others to survive. This kind of person was simply detestable!
From the first time she met Ethan, she knew he was a try-hard, and he was bringing her down that path as well.
After all, what normal young wizard would buy all the textbooks up to graduation before even starting school?
She couldn't compete, she absolutely couldn't compete. She wondered if this person was using his sleeping time to study, working himself to the bone. Thinking of this, Cassandra felt a wave of frustration.
But she quickly cheered up and strode out of the classroom. There were no more classes this morning; she was heading to the library. Thanks to completing the transfiguration, she and Ethan had no homework.
She was the pride of Slytherin and couldn't just give up like this.
Hermione looked down at the match that had undergone a change in material, now an iron match, and then looked at Ethan following behind Professor McGonagall, and Cassandra leaving.
She immediately stuffed the iron match into her pocket and quickly walked towards the Gryffindor common room. She was determined to succeed in transfiguration today.
The other young wizards didn't think so much about it. The main theme of British education was happy education. Each of them was still discussing how to do the homework.
The wizarding world also had homework. Near the end of class, Professor McGonagall assigned a one-foot (a little over thirty centimeters) transfiguration essay, to be submitted at the next transfiguration class.
… …
"Professor McGonagall, let me demonstrate for you first!"
Inside the office, Ethan said as he took out a button. The moment his wand pointed at the button, it transformed into a small, exquisite beetle.
From the outside, the beetle Ethan transformed was indistinguishable from a real beetle. Whether it was the eight legs underneath, the patterns on its shell, or the antennae on its head, everything was impeccable.
But it just wouldn't move. He had tried to put the theory from 《Intermediate Transfiguration》into practice, but Ethan had failed no matter what he did.
Inanimate object to inanimate object, inanimate object to animal, animal to animal, transfiguration of magical creatures and charms, and finally mythical creatures – these were the stages Ethan envisioned.
After learning that transfiguration had an extremely high upper limit, Ethan initially focused his main energy on transfiguration, aside from Occlumency, but his progress was limited to 《Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration》, which was the first stage.
It wasn't that he hadn't asked those three in Knockturn Alley, but they couldn't even figure it out themselves.
Helplessly, he could only put transfiguration aside and turn his attention to charms.
"A very good transfiguration, even better than I was back then."
Professor McGonagall said after taking the beetle in her hand and examining it. It had the spirit but lacked the form, but it was only one step away.
"It's still a little lacking in perception. When casting transfiguration, it's not about turning it into a living thing, turning it into the living thing you imagine, but about it actually being a living thing. This requires…"
Although Professor McGonagall's explanation was a bit vague, Ethan still understood some of it.
It was still related to consciousness. Transfiguration based on subjective consciousness, thinking that one is bestowing transformation and life upon it, often only achieves the form. Only when one subconsciously, deep down, recognizes that this is the creature one wants to transform into, can one succeed.
But wouldn't this really drive oneself to a split personality?
Afterwards, Ethan took out 《Intermediate Transfiguration》. Ethan had noted down the problems he had encountered on it, and there were also his own insights in many places.
Seeing this, Professor McGonagall directly took it over, answering the questions on it while flipping through it.
"Well written, with your own insights, although there are still some problems.
How about this, you leave it with me first, and when I have time, I'll help you answer them. I'll leave small sticky notes inside."
She certainly couldn't explain everything in one go. She still had to teach the third-year students later, so she could only choose this method for now.
And her Transfiguration Club was for wizards in their fifth year or later who had taken the O.W.L.s exams, had excellent transfiguration scores, and were interested in it. Ethan was only in his first year, so even if he had great talent, it wouldn't be suitable.
Hogwarts hadn't had a transfiguration master since herself. She very much looked forward to Ethan becoming the next one, so she wouldn't be stingy with her knowledge at all.
"Thank you, Professor!"
