Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#11 - The will of the strong is destiny
If Roger's first impression of Diagon Alley was the terrifying nature of mind-bending magic,
then his impression of St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries was astonishing in a different sense.
At St. Mungo's, he saw all sorts of bizarre injuries.
The Department of Artefact Accidents on the first floor, the Department of Creature-Induced Injuries on the second floor, the Department of Magical Bugs and Infections on the third floor, the Department of Potion and Plant Poisoning on the fourth floor, and the Department of Spell Damage on the fifth floor all had individuals who had sent themselves to the hospital through magical experiments.
There were also patients who had entered due to various accidents.
Elephant trunks growing on faces, bodies becoming mechanized, lava flowing from limbs, bodies riddled with countless unknown parasites…
And those wizards who had no visible injuries were often hurt even worse, suffering from memory loss, shattered souls, curses, and so on, even including forms of injury that Roger had never imagined.
After witnessing the pioneering spirit and self-destructive abilities of wizards, as well as the dangers of the magical world, Roger also felt that he had come to the right place.
Since these seemingly incredibly troublesome patients could be cured in the hands of the healers at the hospital, then his little problem should be even easier to deal with.
And the reality was just as Roger had predicted.
The healer's diagnosis of Roger's condition was: surgery on the same day, a one-day observation in the hospital the next day, and discharge on the third day.
.
.
.
Clang, clang…
The sound of metal clashing rang out as Roger flicked his fingers.
Metal fragments, stained with some blood, rubbed against the metal tray.
They were bullet fragments, seven in total.
Even with a certain ability to sense danger, Roger could not avoid injury in the terrifying and chaotic war.
Some of the shrapnel in his body had grown into the flesh because it had been lodged inside for too long, while others were too close to vital organs and arteries, and removing them with modern medical means would pose a considerable risk and could cause secondary damage.
Therefore, Roger could only come to this magical hospital, which had treated all kinds of strange injuries, to deal with them.
The first piece of shrapnel came from his arm, embedded in the original owner's body before he possessed it.
The second piece of shrapnel came from his calf, injured by stray bullets when he first arrived in this world and ran around in a panic.
The third, from his waist and abdomen, caused him to bleed uncontrollably after being shot, almost costing him his life.
It was a local Kuwaiti who saved him with his last remaining medicine.
Between life and death, his magic surged for the first time, granting him the ability to sense crises related to himself.
The fourth, when his ability was not yet stable, he was hit by stray bullets while collecting survival supplies.
The fifth, after his ability stabilized, he was hit when he thought he was the chosen one.
Sometimes, even if you sense it, your body is too weak to dodge everything.
This bullet shattered Roger's arrogance.
The sixth, Roger could have dodged it, but he took a risk to save a child and was then shot.
This shot was within Roger's calculations and wouldn't be fatal.
And the last shot… made Roger aware of the fickleness of people's hearts.
Looking at these bullet fragments, Roger was silent for a moment, then withdrew his thoughts from the turbulent memories, took out seven small plastic bags of the kind that usually hold 2-inch photos, collected the seven bullet fragments on the tray, and wrote the serial number with a marker.
Ritual magic is everywhere.
After everything in the world is associated with other existences, it often gives birth to special occult meanings.
Just like the bone of the father used by Voldemort when he was resurrected, unintentionally donated, the flesh of the subordinates, voluntarily dedicated, and the blood of the enemy Harry, forcibly taken.
It is a typical ritual using the occult symbolism of causal relationships.
Ritual magic is very magical in this world and has great power, not just resurrection.
Currently, one of the ultimate forms of Transfiguration, 'Animagus,' contains a lot of ritual magic content.
For example, the first step requires holding a mandrake leaf in your mouth for a month without spitting it out, taking out the leaf to make a potion at the full moon, and then completing other steps in stormy weather.
Many powerful rituals are very demanding on materials.
Some of these bullets almost cost Roger his life, and some caused drastic changes in his mind, possessing extraordinary occult significance.
Roger naturally wouldn't discard these potentially useful things at will.
Roger has always adhered to a principle: "Being prepared is a good habit worth having for the vast majority of people."
Unless absolutely necessary, Roger rarely fights unprepared battles.
After Roger packed up the shrapnel, he began to pack his luggage.
He didn't bring anything else, only a few books.
Surgery on the first day, observation in the hospital on the second day, and discharge on the third day; Roger didn't want to waste even a day.
Carrying his bag, Roger walked to the front desk on the first floor of St. Mungo's to settle the bill.
Roger's surgery was not easy to handle for Muggle hospitals, but it was just a matter of lifting a finger for the healers at St. Mungo's, about the level of cupping in a bathhouse, cutting open the flesh, taking out the shrapnel, using dittany and other potions to heal the wound and replenish blood, and then it was over.
So it didn't cost much money.
"Hmm?"
Although he had been away from the battlefield for quite some time, Roger's perception as a Seer was still sharp.
While paying the final payment, he suddenly noticed that someone was staring at him.
Following the direction of his perception, he saw an old woman and a small boy who looked a little dull.
The one looking at him was the child who was about his age.
This combination, this location, this characteristic…
Roger roughly guessed the other party's identity.
Neville Longbottom, who is jokingly called the Sword Saint of Gryffindor by many people.
His parents were tortured to madness by Death Eaters using the Unforgivable Curses and have been hospitalized at St. Mungo's for nearly ten years, still not recovering.
The reason why the three Unforgivable Curses are unforgivable is because they have no counter-curse.
Once hit, there is no cure… at least for now.
And he seems a little dull because he was given a Forgetfulness Charm when he was a child to forget the tragic experience of being captured by Death Eaters with his parents when he was a toddler, which brought about the sequelae.
After confirming that the other party was not a threat, Roger showed the other party a shallow smile, nodded to show friendliness, and then withdrew his gaze.
Although he recognized the other party, Roger had no intention of making friends with him.
What Roger pursues is eternal life, the infinite splendor that the long years after eternal life can bring him.
He doesn't intend to be distracted too much by other things when he needs to race against time.
However…
Although Roger Virgil is considered good in terms of talent and ability, it doesn't mean he has no shortcomings.
Roger has actually always had a small problem, which is that sometimes he doesn't quite understand his position in the eyes of others.
He, who is inherently not very concerned about other people's opinions of himself, has always been not very sensitive in this regard.
Just like he didn't notice how much waves his casual remarks caused in Professor McGonagall's heart.
He only becomes aware of it after being significantly reminded, just like the obvious fear of many wizards in the Leaky Cauldron.
So, as he turned to leave at this moment, he overlooked one thing.
That is, the strong themselves will become the center of the vortex of fate.
As one of the few powerful Seers in the entire wizarding civilization, even if you don't want to manage many things, they will come to you on their own.
And in a world where great power belongs to oneself, a wave of the hand by the strong can evolve into a storm of fate that sweeps countless people!
