Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#130 - The possibility of interstellar communication

Due to tidal locking and various other reasons, no matter how Earth rotates, Earthlings can only ever see one side of the Moon.

Some people call the other side of the Moon the dark side, but this is actually a bit of a misnomer.

Having truly traversed the lunar seas and craters, Roger and Harry discovered that the back of the Moon also receives sunlight as it waxes and wanes.

"Roger, what are you doing?"

The Moon's area is about four times the size of Roger's homeland in his previous life. It took them about half a day to travel from the front to the back.

As soon as they landed, before Harry could transition from extreme motion to extreme stillness and adjust, he noticed that Roger was up to something he didn't understand again.

However, Harry didn't dislike this feeling.

The first ten years of his life could be described as bleak. With both parents deceased, he lived in a family that didn't welcome him, enduring daily cold stares and ridicule.

School, family, a stagnant pool.

He was lost, not knowing where his life should lead.

But everything changed since that letter arrived in his hands.

Family-like elders, close friends, reliable teachers, and Roger,

Compared to the dull Muggle life, he preferred this magnificent and splendid magical world.

And Roger was the person who best represented the word 'magic' in Harry's eyes!

He could always bring out all sorts of magical tools, wave his wand, and make miracles happen before his eyes that were even more incredible than the magic in textbooks.

"I heard before that on the back of the Moon, signals from Earth would be blocked, and at the same time, the interference brought by the signals would also disappear. Some scientists say that if a space exploration device is installed on the back of the Moon, the effect would be very good."

"I'm trying to see if it's really that good." Transfiguration is a very convenient thing. If the internal principles are completely understood, the difficulty of construction and the scarcity of materials are meaningless to wizards.

- Of course, that wizard has to be strong enough.

Although Harry came from the Muggle world, he was only 11 years old after all. Without Roger's absolute memory and the jumbled knowledge he had sorted out from the information explosion era, he really didn't understand these Muggle technologies.

So he just quietly watched Roger tinkering with things.

After a long while, Roger curled his lips: "Sure enough, the pictures on the internet are all lies."

Logically speaking, the results should be clearer when using the device to look from here, but under Roger's gaze, the universe was not dazzling.

There was only a spot of light, large or small.

Waving his hand, he dispelled the magic.

The images displayed in the device that Roger transformed might have precious value for scientists, but from the perspective of enjoying the scenery, it was inevitably a bit disappointing.

But this would not make Roger feel frustrated. He always had inexhaustible energy, just like he said at the beginning, he decided to pursue eternal life in order to better and longer experience this infinitely wonderful world.

So although many sayings include mind-cultivation secrets such as being pure-hearted and having detachment from emotions, Roger has never used a similar approach to solve his problem of an ageless mind.

A vibrant heart is something Roger is unwilling to give up.

And at this moment, the only person beside Roger, Harry, could not maintain the same state of mind as him.

Being on the Moon is completely different from being on Earth. When on Earth, no matter what kind of stimulation he received, he had a place to relax. But here, apart from Roger, it was all deathly silence.

Even the sounds were isolated by the vacuum. On the pale lunar land, Harry's state of mind was not too bad, but feelings of loneliness and desolation were constantly surging. Only because Roger was right in front of him could he suppress the breeding of negative emotions in his heart.

Watching Roger make the astronomical device disappear and then pick up his wand again to tinker with new things with great interest, Harry understood at this moment.

"Roger is the pillar that maintains my spiritual state in this loneliness."

"What about Roger?"

"He never feels bored because of his curiosity about everything."

"But I—cannot experience this kind of joy."

What Harry cared about more than the boring texts were always family and love.

His parents, Hagrid who led him into the magical world, Ron who accompanied him, the teammates who cheered together in the Quidditch team, Professor Snape who was honest with him, and Roger who let him see the wonders of magic and gave him unparalleled security.

They were the various people he met along the way in his life.

What a person lacks, they will desire. Since he could remember, Harry had lacked love. He craved the feeling of being cared for, being valued, and being recognized. He craved the connection between people.

At this moment, Harry understood that he was really not suitable for something like eternal life.

If the familiar people around him were buried in the river of time one by one, leaving only himself and Roger like now, then he would probably go crazy.

Perhaps he would constantly encounter other important people in his life, but they would eventually disappear in the torrent of time.

Vaguely, a hallucination seemed to occur before Harry's eyes. The craters turned into pits of corpses, and everyone he had met was buried in them, while the boundless white land was full of scattered graves.

Shaking his head, Harry rejected this future.

"Harry, look!" The thought was transmitted over. Harry's gaze swept over and saw that Roger's hand held a walnut-sized pendant ornament, crystal clear and shaped like ancient runes.

"I made some travel souvenirs. I'll give one to the professors and friends at school when the time comes. What do you think?" Roger bought some souvenirs when he traveled to the two countries.

In Germany, they were small toys produced by Muggle toy factories, and in Sweden, they were local handicrafts.

The Moon didn't sell souvenirs, so Roger took materials on the spot and made some himself.

On the way to the back of the Moon, Roger took the South Pole route because of the angle of sunlight,

The Moon's North and South Poles have a permanent shadow area where the temperature is between -157C and -238C.

The Moon's atmosphere is almost non-existent, and only in that permanent shadow area does lunar surface water exist in the form of ice.

Roger collected some and strengthened it with magic, turning it into the lunar ice handicraft in his hand.

"It's good, but I think it would be even better if everyone was here," Harry said with a smile,

Saying silently.

Although he sometimes felt lonely, to be honest, Harry felt that the many sights and things he saw on the Moon made him feel vast and shocked. This was a very interesting journey for him.

He would probably never forget the feeling in his heart when he stood on the lunar land and looked back at the Earth.

At this moment, Harry, who had a clearer understanding of his heart, began to have some new changes in his spiritual power.

And the keen Roger naturally noticed Harry's subtle changes.

"Actually—it might be difficult for the real body to come over, but if it's just to experience the feeling of being here, I seem to really have a way." After thinking about it, Roger transmitted his will to Harry.

"Ah?" Harry found that he often fell into a daze after traveling with Roger.

Because Roger always had a way. He broke through his common sense again and again.

"And my Imaginary Creation Magic."

"I'm not sure if this will work, but if I combine these two principles—I might be able to come up with a method of interstellar communication." Harry's needs gave Roger a brand new inspiration.
