Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#15 - Sorting Ceremony
The Sorting Ceremony at Hogwarts takes place every year.
Everyone pays close attention because it concerns whether outstanding new blood will enter their own House.
This year's Sorting Ceremony is particularly noteworthy!
The savior of the British wizarding world, awaited for ten years, has finally entered the world of magic, and another prophet, equally steeped in legendary mystique, is also enrolling this year.
Besides these two, many offspring of pure-blood families, who may hold important social positions in the future, are also entering this year.
Those with a strong sense of collective identity, eager to expand their own faction, are already itching to get started.
Draco Malfoy even wanted to show friendliness to Harry Potter on the train, but unfortunately, because Ron Weasley was by his side, it was all in vain.
Look for the prophet?
Draco never had this idea.
His father told him to be careful of the prophet.
Although young, as a pure-blood 'aristocrat,' Draco also knew that some of his family's businesses were not entirely clean.
It would be fine if this prophet were the kind to turn a blind eye, but if he were the kind of 'righteous champion' who took things too seriously, it might cause trouble.
After all, everyone wants to know other people's secrets, but they don't want others to know their own secrets.
Information asymmetry is a powerful and terrifying thing!
"Hufflepuff!" Hannah, the first to wear the hat, walked towards the long table where applause was rising and falling.
When she sat down, the long table filled with Hufflepuff students stopped applauding, and everyone looked at the Sorting Hat with anticipation, waiting for the next young wizard to come forward.
Roger didn't recognize many of the young wizards who came forward next.
The only ones Roger remembered were the Harry trio, the Malfoy trio, and Neville, who had many shining moments.
As for the others... well, you know.
Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin... different House names appeared repeatedly from the Sorting Hat's mouth.
The 'V' in Roger Virgil's last name meant he would be among the last to be called.
The long wait made Roger a little bored and his thoughts wandered.
One House, students with brave spirits; one House, full of knowledge and wisdom; one House, students as loving and kind as a father; and the last House, proud and fond of elegance...
Isn't there any borrowing from somewhere?
"Roger Virgil!" Professor McGonagall held up a piece of parchment and called out the name loudly.
Roger, snapping out of his thoughts, perked up and walked to the front.
"Roger? Is he the legendary one...?"
"He's Roger? The prophet?!" A young witch who had just been sorted into Gryffindor recognized the person she had met on the train.
"Harry Potter has already been obtained by Gryffindor, it should be our turn for the prophet, right?" Some Slytherin students chattered incessantly.
"Oh my goodness, Merlin forbid, he must not come to our House. My uncle said he's a big demon who isn't happy unless he kills Muggles every day..."
"Your uncle is lying to you," a young Hufflepuff witch retorted for her acquaintance.
The voices of discussion from the audience rose and fell, most of which Roger couldn't hear clearly, nor did he have the mind to listen.
The Sorting Hat was placed on his head, blocking his vision.
Then a voice sounded.
"So you really don't want to go to Slytherin?"
"Alright, you don't need to keep saying it, then which one do you want to go to... uh."
The Sorting Ceremony always encounters some particularly special children, after all, many early wizards themselves were oddballs, and their education levels were truly worrying. The Sorting Hat had gotten used to it after so many years of the school's existence.
But Roger's kind was still relatively difficult for it to handle.
At this moment, Roger was like a repeating machine, with only one voice in his heart.
'Don't go to Slytherin, don't go to Slytherin xN.'
Even if it talked to him, there was no other reaction.
Hmm, it seemed it had to use some real skills.
The Sorting Hat concentrated its energy and asked: "Alright, although I feel Slytherin is the most suitable for you, if you're unwilling, then forget it. How about Gryffindor?"
"Do you think you are often timid?"
The Sorting Hat tried to listen to Roger's thoughts about himself from under his constant repetition.
"No, recklessness is not bravery, you can overcome your own fear, you possess true courage."
"What's called never regretting even dying ten thousand times? 'Though ten thousand people stand in my way, I shall go'? Your standards are too high."
"Ravenclaw then?"
"Not smart enough, always making mistakes?"
"Being able to face your mistakes and try your best to correct them, instead of letting them go, turning a blind eye, you are already wise enough."
"If we sorted according to your standards, then basically no one could enter Hogwarts."
"Hufflepuff... well, Hufflepuff and your personality type really don't match very well."
The Sorting Hat pondered for a moment between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor.
Then it gave the answer.
"...Gryffindor!"
The reason the Sorting Hat gave this answer was very simple: the root of Roger's wisdom was still in his courage to face everything, and similar to Slytherin, his desire to become stronger and gain more.
In the situation where he didn't want to go to Slytherin, Gryffindor was indeed more suitable for him.
And at the same time that this sound rang out, in the direction of the Gryffindor long table, screams and cheers almost lifted the ceiling of the Great Hall!
The students waved their wizard hats in their hands.
Savior, prophet, this Sorting Ceremony was a grand slam for Gryffindor!
Roger looked in the direction of Gryffindor... well, not everyone was so excited, there were also a few individual students who didn't dare to look at him.
Just like Professor X is sometimes not too popular with people who have secrets.
There weren't many people after Roger, and the Sorting Ceremony ended quickly.
Then came the usual singing of the school song, the opening banquet, and Headmaster Dumbledore said the same things Roger remembered, such as not going to the third-floor right-hand corridor, not going to the Forbidden Forest, etc.
While the students were eating the sumptuous dinner and chatting, Roger occasionally looked in the direction of the professors' seats.
However, he wasn't looking at Professor McGonagall.
But rather at the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Quirrell, and the Potions professor Snape.
As far as Roger knew, Snape seemed to be someone who spoke sharply and didn't like gossip or small talk.
But at this moment, he was frequently whispering to Professor Quirrell beside him.
"...From the very beginning of the semester, Snape has been staring at Quirrell?"
Roger knew that Voldemort was residing in the back of Professor Quirrell's head, but he didn't know if Snape was testing or tailing him.
