Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#25 - Why was he sorted into Gryffindor?

As soon as Roger entered, he noticed a hint of worry lingering in Professor McGonagall's eyes.

"Professor, is something the matter? Is there anything I can help with?" Roger asked earnestly.

Although he was there to ask Professor McGonagall for a favor, he wasn't particularly anxious. Having experienced being arrested by the Ministry of Magic, he knew how they operated.

While not entirely corrupt, the Ministry was rife with bureaucracy akin to "Yes, Prime Minister"… or rather, most departments were essentially representatives of powerful wizards and families within the Ministry, each vying for their own interests. Someone as insignificant as him would inevitably face red tape when trying to get things done.

In 1689, around the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, the International Statute of Secrecy was signed, dividing the wizarding world into territories based on Muggle national boundaries.

Each region was led by several strong local powers (such as the Wizengamot and the Department of Mysteries in Britain), who established organizations similar to the Ministry of Magic to manage wizards within their borders.

However, the wizards and factions that had originally monopolized magical resources and knowledge were unwilling to relinquish them to the Ministry's control.

Smaller factions were crushed by the tides of time, their knowledge becoming the various magic books sold publicly today. The powerful and irreplaceable ones were simply absorbed.

It was like a family monopolizing water and electricity supply in a country, with countless politicians pocketing political donations from them. There was no way to deal with them, and the government could only create positions specifically for these families.

Getting his hands on the Room-extending Charm and obtaining a certain degree of usage rights wouldn't be easy. Even if Professor McGonagall was willing to help, it would likely require going back and forth between various departments with jurisdiction, delaying things for months.

Since he wasn't in a hurry, and Professor McGonagall was facing difficulties, Roger naturally prioritized her troubles.

Professor McGonagall was not only his initial guide in the wizarding world but had also provided him with much assistance, helping him avoid many detours over the years.

Naturally, Roger was deeply concerned about her predicament.

Roger never let those who had helped him suffer.

"It's not a major issue," Professor McGonagall said, waving her hand slightly, seeing Roger's earnest expression.

"It's just the Quidditch situation… alas." A hint of embarrassment appeared on Professor McGonagall's face.

Quidditch was a popular sport unique to wizards, and the only sport with major competitions at Hogwarts.

It was similar to soccer or basketball, where 'athletes' score by getting the ball into the goal, and the team with the higher score wins.

However, Quidditch involved wizards flying on broomsticks in the air, and the balls had the ability to fly on their own… It was said to be a sport evolved from wizard aerial combat.

The inter-house competitions at Hogwarts involved each of the four houses sending a representative team to compete. Last year, Gryffindor was badly defeated by Slytherin, and Minerva McGonagall, as the head of Gryffindor, hadn't dared to face Severus Snape, the head of Slytherin, for weeks.

Snape's sarcastic and venomous tongue was indeed formidable, and she didn't want to provoke him.

Hearing this, a hint of embarrassment flashed in Roger's eyes.

Professor McGonagall had barely started when Roger knew what was going on. In a way, he was partly to blame.

Since the beginning of the school year, although he had dedicated most of his energy to studying and magical experiments, he hadn't neglected other things.

For example, if classmates encountered problems they couldn't solve and asked him, he would offer explanations when he had time, to reinforce his own knowledge.

Roger would also help teachers clean up messes when students caused accidents in class.

And when conflicts arose between Gryffindor and their old rivals Slytherin, he would step in as a peacemaker if he saw them.

They were all classmates, and Roger didn't want to see bullying unfold before his eyes.

…Although, whether Gryffindor or Slytherin students, they all felt a chill down their spines from Roger's brutally 'peaceful' methods. Not many people were grateful to Roger.

Under Roger's 'deterrent,' Slytherin and Gryffindor always behaved restrainedly whenever he was present, so…

During flying class, the conflict between Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter simply didn't happen. Everyone was behaving properly in class, and no one dared to cause trouble.

Harry didn't have the opportunity to display his powerful flying talent in front of everyone and McGonagall… Flying was a very dangerous activity, and Madam Hooch, the flying instructor, wouldn't allow students to attempt dangerous maneuvers without permission.

And this led to Professor McGonagall still being troubled today because the team's previous Seeker, Charlie Weasley, had graduated and left, and the Gryffindor Quidditch team didn't have a new, strong Seeker.

The Seeker was the most crucial position in Quidditch. Quidditch matches had no time limit; the game ended when the Seeker caught the Golden Snitch. If the Golden Snitch wasn't caught, the game could theoretically go on forever.

Reaching this point in his thoughts, Roger asked to confirm, "Is it about the Seeker position?"

"Yes."

"Then let Harry try. Although it's unusual for a first-year to be a Seeker, Headmaster Dumbledore will agree."

"…Do you think he can do it?" Professor McGonagall hadn't heard that Harry had any talent in that area.

"Trust me, he'll be fine." Roger said, pointing to his eyes.

Professor McGonagall understood—a Seer's prediction!

As a powerful Seer, being able to instantly discern what she was troubled by and provide a solution was perfectly logical.

Seeing Professor McGonagall nod, a smile crept onto Roger's face.

Harry Potter had inherited his father's talent and was terrifyingly good at Quidditch. Furthermore, he had recently undergone a full-body nervous system optimization, making his athletic talents shine as if they had been enhanced to +15.

This Quidditch match would surely bring endless surprises to all opponents, as Harry Potter, with his unique skills, fighting spirit, and impressive stamina, would display his astonishing abilities!

"Speaking of which, flying class is happening later. Professor, you can test him then. Harry's abilities will satisfy you." He said, but Roger felt that Harry needed to show his skills, otherwise, if he was suddenly parachuted into the team and couldn't convince the others, conflicts might arise among the team.

Deep hatred often stemmed from small, insignificant matters.

Harry had also helped him, and Roger naturally wanted to eliminate any potential risks for him.

With Professor McGonagall's worries addressed, Roger began to discuss the real reason for his visit.

"Magically modify your brain?!" After Roger explained his general intention, Professor McGonagall widened her eyes with a 'you're crazy' expression.

Magically modifying the brain? What kind of concept was that? It was as absurd as a Muggle learning a few medical books and performing brain surgery on themselves, directly connecting the human brain to machines!

She seemed to understand why Roger, who was always reading, had been sorted into Gryffindor!

The other Gryffindors, no matter how 'brave,' were just mischievous, at most playing pranks on teachers.

But you are truly daring to risk your life!
