Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#28 - The meaning of magic is to create miracles
Roger believed that conflicts between students were best resolved by the students themselves. Because intervention from a teacher, as someone in a superior position, often implied forceful suppression, merely pushing the conflict beneath the surface without truly resolving it.
This could lead to further trouble down the line.
That's why he stopped Professor McGonagall.
However, if Roger remembered correctly, the conflict between Ron and Hermione should have occurred near Halloween, after another practice session of the Levitation Charm… Learning spells is a dangerous thing; incorrect spellcasting can lead to serious consequences. Therefore, learning typically involves first learning the wand movement, then the incantation, and finally combining them in practice.
But now, Halloween was still some time away.
The conflict had erupted prematurely.
Why?
Roger realized that the butterfly effect had occurred again, unnoticed.
With a hint of confusion, Roger walked between Hermione and Ron.
Harry, somewhat concerned for Ron, put down his flying broom and quickly walked to Ron's side.
Seeing Roger approach, Ron, who had been enraged by having his sore spot touched and losing face, lowered his head, looking at the ground, not daring to look at him.
He was still angry, but not bold enough to vent his anger at Roger.
Hermione, on the other hand, raised her head, not out of arrogance, but because when she tilted her head up, the tears in her eyes wouldn't fall.
Crying in front of Roger was something she considered very embarrassing.
Looking at these two classmates, one looking at the sky and the other at the ground, both silently sulking, Roger sighed and said, "Tell me, what's going on?"
"…She's picking on me," Ron mumbled.
"I am not," Hermione's voice was low and slightly choked.
Seeing them like this, Roger knew that although fate had undergone some changes, the main theme hadn't deviated; the root of their conflict was still the one he knew well.
And this, made it somewhat difficult.
Because this matter, frankly, was about a little girl who craved recognition but didn't understand people's hearts, cautiously extending her kindness, only to be stung by those who didn't appreciate it. And a sensitive little boy, whose fragile self-esteem was constantly being torn apart, finally erupting in retaliation.
Kindness that was hurt, retaliation after being stung, no one truly had malicious intent, but that was the result.
In this situation, siding with either of them wouldn't be good.
Under normal circumstances, he could either use his strength and understanding of fate to forcefully pressure Ron, who had spoken hurtfully first, to apologize, or talk to Hermione about the complexities of people's hearts, making her understand that not everyone likes kindness without boundaries, making her realize her own rashness.
Or, take a two-pronged approach, each getting a fair share of the blame, to show fairness.
But… Roger didn't want to choose that!
Her kindness shouldn't be let down, and his dignity shouldn't be trampled on.
"Do you… trust me?"
Attracted by the steady voice, Hermione and Ron looked over together, looking at Roger's serious and earnest expression, recalling his protection and help for his classmates since entering school, and nodded at the same time.
"Good." Roger extended both hands.
His left hand took Hermione's hand, and his right hand also took Ron's hand.
Although he hadn't been officially enrolled for too long, with the help of his crisis prediction ability, Roger's magical experiment progress had advanced by leaps and bounds at a speed that ordinary wizards could hardly imagine.
He had mastered neural modification technology, and at the same time, because he had read 'The Connection Between the Soul and the Brain' from the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry of Magic, he also had a deep understanding of the brain.
While preparing easy-to-read experimental idea document files for Professor McGonagall, his magical experiments had never stopped.
Roger was still far from being able to technically modify his own magical brain, but he had the ability to perform other operations.
For example…
Ron and Hermione suddenly widened their eyes at the same time.
"This, this is…"
Using his hands as connection points, Roger linked his nerves to the two, and a mental power far exceeding the sum of the two swept all the way, reaching their brains.
A certain segment of memory in their minds was extracted by a force similar to the Legilimency spell, and then exchanged through Roger as a bridge!
What had just happened replayed in their minds, but this time, they witnessed everything from the other's perspective.
This memory was even more realistic than Dumbledore's Pensieve, which could replay memories.
They could even feel every subtle thought in the other's mind at that time.
Shame, anger, loneliness, grievance…
The kindness of wanting the other to be better, the expectation of wanting to have friends, the desire to chase after close friends, the fear of being left behind because they couldn't keep up with their friends…
And, the pain of being hurt.
At this moment, under Roger's magic, a true sense of mutual understanding was achieved.
Hermione was a little at a loss. She never knew that her help had caused Ron so much pain: "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have…"
Coming back to his senses from the memory, Ron glanced at Harry, who had been standing by his side and never left, and shook his head: "No."
Ron lowered his head again, but this time it was a deep bow: "…I should be the one saying sorry. What I did was too much."
Seeing that the two had not only reached a true reconciliation, but their hearts also seemed to have undergone some transformation, the smile on Roger's originally serious face bloomed.
Roger was happy for them, and also happy for himself.
In Roger's past life, he had encountered many things, good and bad.
Just like Professor McGonagall had regrets, Roger also had them. Life is long, who doesn't have some regrets?
The Roger of the past was an ordinary mortal. There were some things he didn't have the power to turn the tide, and there were some things that, no matter what he did, someone would always get hurt.
But now it's different.
Muggle methods can never satisfy everyone, but I can use magical methods.
Muggles can't unspill water, but I can use magic to reverse time.
The meaning of magic lies in creating miracles!
All impossible things, multiplied by endless time with magic, will become possible!
After Flying Class, Hermione and Ron wanted to keep him to express their gratitude, but Roger waved his hand without saying much and left directly.
For Roger, this matter with Ron and them was no different from the things he had done to help other classmates before. Roger did this only because he liked to see other people's smiles, not conflicts, that's all.
Not for any reward, or that the people around him can live happily, and not have their faces full of numbness, unhappiness, and hostility all day long, is the reward for himself.
Who doesn't like living in a happy and comfortable environment?
"Roger."
Just as Roger was thinking about how to continue his experiment in his laboratory tomorrow, and strive to completely solve the doubled pain side effects on his body within two days, an old voice sounded.
He looked back and saw Headmaster Albus Dumbledore standing behind him at some point.
"I have something I want to talk to you about."
"What is it, Headmaster?" The last time they met was at the crossroads outside the courtroom. Roger was a little puzzled when he saw Dumbledore.
"It's about the Philosopher's Stone."
Dumbledore said with a serious expression.
"Can I… entrust the Philosopher's Stone to you?"
"Huh?" The little prophet was a little confused.
How could the direction of fate suddenly undergo such a big change?!
I shouldn't have done anything too outrageous since I entered school, right?
