Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#47 - The reason for becoming a demon king
A wizard like Voldemort, who had walked so far down the path of magic, couldn't possibly be unaware of how dangerous his actions were and how powerful his enemies were.
In Britain alone, there was Dumbledore, a fierce tiger blocking his path. What about looking at the whole world?
From Nicolas Flamel and the long-lived former headmasters of Hogwarts, it was clear that there were definitely many wizards who had lived for a long time in the wizarding world. Who knew what wizard with centuries of life and super strength might pop out from some corner?
And that was just the wizarding society. The power of Muggles should not be underestimated either.
Not to mention technological weapons.
You should know that the true upper echelons of Muggles have known about the existence of wizards since ancient times. The royal families of some countries have even been in contact with wizards all along.
The world has always been run by Muggles from behind the scenes. Don't they really have any special means?
Turning the topic back to the beginning.
Tom Riddle, why did he become Voldemort, stepping onto the center stage when the path to eternal life still had flaws?
Time.
Hearing Roger's words, Voldemort was suddenly shocked.
The internal research of the Department of Mysteries is highly confidential, and it is difficult for outsiders to fully understand it.
Moreover, in-depth research on time has become a taboo since the major accident in 1899. That was before Voldemort was born. Voldemort, who was always obsessed with dark magic and rarely paid attention to other things, had never really thought about this.
…I have to find an opportunity to mess with the Department of Mysteries.
After such a thought flashed through his mind, Voldemort looked at Roger, who was still waiting for his answer, and said, "Of course I know that Horcruxes are not perfect."
Although he had deviated from the path and was blinded by a leaf, ignoring the space-time aspect, even without considering space-time, Voldemort still felt that there were some things that could be improved about Horcruxes.
"But as an individual wizard, my talent has its limits, and I can't possibly publicize the path of Horcruxes and gather everyone's strength to research it."
A genius once in a century, a Dark Lord, a leader who would definitely become Minister of Magic within five years of graduation—Voldemort had many glorious titles.
But that didn't mean that Voldemort's magical talent was unprecedented. At least, Dumbledore alone could give him a headache.
He was strong, but not strong enough to transcend limits.
Just like the countless geniuses in the Ritual Faction, Transformation Faction, and External Object Faction who wanted to be promoted from wizards to gods but all fell before the Wailing Wall, he also failed to truly transcend ordinary wizards.
This was answering Roger's first question. It wasn't that he didn't want to continue on the path to eternal life, but that he couldn't continue.
And Roger's second question.
"Do you know Grindelwald?" Just like Roger was curious about Voldemort's path, Voldemort was also quite curious about Roger.
Curious about what choice he would make if he encountered the same predicament as himself one day.
So he was willing to talk about it briefly without involving core secrets.
"Of course I know." Although he didn't understand it well, Roger still knew the general deeds of Grindelwald.
"For the Greater Good?"
Voldemort nodded in Quirrell's body: "Yes."
"Then what is my 'banner'?"
"Pure-blood." Roger wouldn't have forgotten this.
Voldemort was noncommittal: "Hmm."
"What is the common ground between Death Eaters and Saints?"
Roger recalled his original fate and said uncertainly: "Wizard supremacy?"
"That's right. Whether pure-blood wizards gather together or elite wizards gather together, what we are doing is actually similar. We are all gathering a group to build a new world order centered on wizards, a community of shared interests."
Since he couldn't transcend alone, if he wanted to do great things, he naturally needed a group of his own cronies and hyenas to succeed.
"So I summoned the Death Eaters, raised the pure-blood banner, and let all kinds of crazy people join my command."
"I know that Muggle-born wizards are not weak, but Muggle-born wizards are not trustworthy. Their position is often not on the side of 'wizards'."
Speaking of this, under Quirrell's turban, Voldemort's face couldn't help but show a ferocious smile: "If you have studied wizarding history, you will find that since ancient times, when Muggles were still weak, some people wanted to dominate Muggles, but they were all stopped."
"The ones who are the most ruthless to wizards are wizards."
The power of wizards is stronger than that of Muggles, but the premise is that there are no traitors within the wizards. As long as a powerful wizard is willing to be a guide, the magical methods of wizards will be greatly reduced, and the situation will turn into wizards being easily killed by Muggles.
"The Order of Merlin, loyal to the royal family, protecting Muggles, managing wizards, hehe." Reciting the declaration of the great wizard Merlin when he established this organization, and looking at the brilliance of Muggle civilization today, Voldemort found it extremely funny.
"Roger, I am over sixty years old this year. Since around 1930, when I started to remember things, you know, the Muggles at that time were not strong. Most heavy firepower weapons were not as powerful as a wizard's spell, and the various production machines of Muggles were also inefficient."
"But time seems to have been fast-forwarded on the Muggles. I watched with my own eyes as the power of the Muggles continued to grow at a terrifying speed."
"And what about the wizards?"
"There is almost no progress! The so-called powerful wizards are even complacent with ancient spells from hundreds or thousands of years ago."
Voldemort, who spent his entire youth in the era when technological development was the most rapid, squinted his eyes slightly, as if recalling something.
"People say that I can become Minister of Magic in a few years, and I do have that ability. Even with the long life that Horcruxes bring me, it seems that I can be Minister of Magic for hundreds or thousands of years, but…"
"And then what?" Voldemort asked in almost the same tone as Roger had just said those words.
"Muggle civilization is advancing rapidly, wizarding civilization is standing still, and what will happen in the future is obvious."
"Two hundred years? Or three hundred years? The me who was originally in a high position will become a rat crossing the street in the whole world, an immortal rat crossing the street with an incredibly long lifespan, forever being wanted and wandering!"
"That's not the fate I want."
"Roger, I have no interest in driving a ship that is destined to sink!"
Hearing this, Roger already understood the reason for Voldemort's impatience.
Time waits for no one!
Muggle civilization is visibly becoming stronger, but the growth of his own strength has entered a bottleneck period that will take an unknown amount of time to break through. Not only himself, but even the entire wizarding community cannot see where the hope of advancement lies.
"So you became the Dark Lord at a time when your future was infinitely bright?"
"That's right. I must launch this war and rule everything before Muggles can crush wizards without any suspense."
Rather than a slow death, living forever in endless wandering.
Voldemort chose to gamble.
Didn't he know that his path was dangerous?
He knew it too well.
But… from humble beginnings in an orphanage to once reaching the pinnacle of the wizarding world, becoming a noble and powerful strongman has become his obsession.
Falling into the dust again, becoming lowly?
Then he would rather wear the crown and die on the path of battle as a Demon King!
