#20 - Al Pacino
Chapter 20 Al Pacino
Steven Ruther and Aaron Anderson met the returning Al Pacino at the Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard.
"To me, the script for 'Pretty Woman' is just too silly. Would anyone really like a story like this?"
Al Pacino had performed in Broadway plays in New York for four years. This official comeback was mainly for 'The Godfather Part III';
He really didn't think much of the script for 'Pretty Woman'.
"Are you really not going to consider it again?" Steven Ruther didn't expect him to say that.
Al Pacino shook his head, "This role isn't really suitable for me, Steven!"
"Mr. Pacino," Aaron Anderson, who had been sitting quietly to the side, spoke up, immediately attracting the attention of the two men.
Meeting Al Pacino's gaze, Steven Ruther explained, "This is Aaron Anderson, a young agent from CAA. He's the one who convinced Jeffrey Katzenberg about 'Pretty Woman'."
Al Pacino nodded, he originally thought he was Steven Ruther's assistant.
"Oh, what do you want to say?"
Aaron looked at him, "Mr. Pacino, are you thinking of working with Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman in 'Dick Tracy'?"
"If a movie could succeed just by piling up a few stars, then CAA should have become a film mecca long ago!"
"You don't think much of 'Dick Tracy'?"
Aaron smiled, "The success of 'Rain Man' isn't so easy to replicate. A large part of the box office success should be attributed to Tom Cruise;"
"Mr. Pacino is already going to star in the gangster sequel 'The Godfather Part III', so why join another gangster film to play a dispensable supporting role?"
"The success of a movie is nothing more than box office or awards. Will the box office of 'Pretty Woman' really be worse than 'Dick Tracy'?"
Al Pacino laughed, and Steven Ruther, who was at the side, took the opportunity to mention Aaron Anderson's achievements at the Cannes Film Festival.
"You're very optimistic about 'Pretty Woman'?"
Aaron nodded, "If I had a few million or tens of millions of dollars, I would invest in it myself!"
"Unfortunately, everyone says they are optimistic about the works they participate in." Al Pacino would not be persuaded so easily.
Aaron sighed, "Mr. Pacino, you should listen to other people's opinions. Your agent also suggests you star in this movie;"
"Now that Mr. Pacino has just made a comeback, is it not good to join a small crew to prove yourself, rather than going to a star-studded cast?"
Al Pacino's reputation was unmatched after starring in 'The Godfather', but his taste in selecting films was really too poor.
He was the first choice for 'Star Wars', 'Taxi Driver', 'Raging Bull', and 'Once Upon a Time in America', but unfortunately, he missed them all.
"Aaron Anderson, is it?"
Al Pacino looked at him, "Your strength should be in art films, do you also understand these commercial films?"
Aaron wasn't intimidated at all, and spread out his hands, "My qualifications are too shallow, I can only discover newcomers and works by new directors. Where would there be commercial films?"
"My strength is in the commercial category. What Mr. Pacino should do most now is to increase his influence, and then he won't lack good scripts;"
"If 'Pretty Woman' succeeds, then it will be Mr. Pacino's representative work, but if 'Dick Tracy' succeeds, then it will also be Warren Beatty's representative work and credit!"
"Haha," Al Pacino laughed out loud.
"By doing this, you are undermining Mr. Ovitz, the head of your CAA."
Aaron glanced at Steven Ruther and said casually, "When the movie is released next year, he will be very happy to give me a bonus;"
"'Dick Tracy' is the same with or without Mr. Pacino, but with Mr. Pacino joining 'Pretty Woman', success is not far away…"
As the end of May approached, good news finally came. Al Pacino and the 'Pretty Woman' crew signed a contract for him to play the male lead in the movie;
This also put Aaron, who had been paying attention to the progress of the movie, at ease.
CAA headquarters building.
Aaron obtained another script from Quentin Tarantino, 'Natural Born Killers', and had just given it to the editorial department for proofreading.
When he came out, he ran into Richard Lovett again, "Aaron, Julia Roberts being able to act opposite Al Pacino, you deserve the credit!"
Now, the male and female leads of 'Pretty Woman' are Al Pacino and Julia Roberts;
Richard Lovett, as Julia Roberts' agent, seemed very happy.
No mistake, one first, one hair, one inside, one content, one in, one look, one look!
"Not bad, congratulations to you too," Aaron nodded to him. The supporting role inside could be given to Nicole Kidman, but Aaron didn't think it was necessary!
Richard Lovett smiled, "I heard you don't think much of 'Dick Tracy'. Mr. Warren Beatty is a little unhappy."
Although Aaron didn't belittle 'Dick Tracy' when persuading Al Pacino, letting the interested Al Pacino withdraw was not very good after all.
Aaron shook his head, and didn't know what was going on with this gloating tone?
They are all newcomers from CAA, isn't it a waste of time to put your mind on such trivial matters?
"Alright, I'm leaving first," Aaron really wasn't in the mood to say too much to these minor characters. He was going to meet Adam Sandler!
After leaving CAA, Aaron had just entered his Roadster, preparing to go home first, but received a call from director Tony Scott's assistant.
"Mr. Scott is interested in the script for 'True Romance'?"
"Okay, I'll bring the screenwriter to visit Mr. Scott then!"
After hanging up the phone, Aaron smiled. Quentin Tarantino's script was being looked at, that's pretty fast.
Tony Scott is the director of 'Top Gun', starring Tom Cruise, and his older brother is even more impressive, the famous Ridley Scott!
In the evening, after Aaron met with Adam Sandler, he signed an agency contract with him the next day.
However, because Adam Sandler was previously a client of agent Ari Emanuel, after following him out of CAA, he terminated his contract with the 'Saturday Night Live' program group;
Now, Aaron wants to get Adam Sandler back on 'Saturday Night Live'. After all, this show is really good for training people!
"Don't worry, 'Saturday Night Live' producer Lorne Michaels is quite optimistic about you. You can write and act, signing a contract won't be a problem."
Outside the CAA building, Aaron Anderson patted Adam Sandler on the shoulder.
Adam Sandler nodded, revealing a worried look, "But, Mr. Ari Emanuel is a bit unhappy that I didn't renew this time!"
Aaron didn't care, "It would be good if ITA can survive stably. These agents like Ari Emanuel will definitely leave. Do you still expect these guys to live and die with ITA?"
You are all Jews, besides benefits, do you care about anything else? Isn't the Adam Sandler in front of you a good example?
Immediately abandon Ari Emanuel!
