#78 - Lawlessness
Years ago, Edward Zwick directed the romantic comedy "About Last Night...", starring Demi Moore. At that time, her husband was still Freddy Moore.
Now, her husband is Bruce Willis, and Moore is her ex-husband's surname. The bold and avant-garde 28-year-old Demi Moore has gained considerable attention due to Bruce Willis's rise to fame with the "Die Hard" series.
Aaron was muttering to himself, "This is the original lead actress of 'Ghost,' too bad it's Nicole Kidman now!"
"Demi, I heard 'Mortal Thoughts' has been postponed due to a change of director?" Edward Zwick inquired.
Demi Moore nodded, looking helpless, and explained, "The original director of 'Mortal Thoughts,' Claude Kerven, had disagreements with us."
"So, after filming for a while, Alan Rudolph replaced him, extending the filming cycle. It was originally scheduled for release this December, but now it's postponed to the spring season next year!"
Unintentional words can be meaningful to the listener. Aaron thought to himself that his "Boyz n the Hood" would have one more competitor next year.
Just as the three were chatting, Aaron received a call from Jack Welles, "Aaron, I think I've been scammed out of $12,000 by a son-of-a-bitch swindler..."
That night, at a bar on Fountain Avenue in West Hollywood, Jack Welles looked dejected!
"I received a call from a stockbroker who recommended a very profitable stock."
"He sounded very convincing and said the company was a new high-end technology company in the Midwest with ties to the Department of Defense, providing parts for new fighter jets, and the approval was pending."
"Each share was only 50 cents, and he said it was the stock he was most optimistic about in the last six months!"
Listening to Jack Welles, Aaron facepalmed, "Didn't I remind you to play around with oil futures a little?"
"Penny stocks are just garbage. Investing in fields you don't understand is just throwing money away!"
Jack Welles took a sip of his drink, "The brokerage firm is called Stratton Oakmont. Will this stock go up?"
Aaron rolled his eyes, "F*ck, it's not going up! It's garbage, like a homeless person's sleeping mat!"
"What should I do?" Jack Welles was furious. $12,000 is not a small amount.
"Well, promoting these garbage stocks is technically illegal, but it's hard to define!"
Aaron was helpless. "By the way, what was the company called, and where is it?"
"It's called Stratton Oakmont, I think it's in Long Island, New York. I need to find someone to check the exact location."
Jack Welles felt too embarrassed.
Aaron nodded. What a mess of names. "Fortunately, $12,000 isn't much. You're with me now, so it doesn't matter."
"Are we just going to let it go?" Jack Welles was clearly unconvinced.
"What do you want to do, find him and beat him up?"
"At least give him a lesson so I can vent my anger!"
Aaron asked, "Okay, you mean you're going to New York?"
Jack Welles nodded, "Yes, I'm going to take a trip. You'll have to take care of the Angel Theater for a few days."
"Okay, do you still have money on hand?"
Aaron took out two checks for $10,000 and handed them to him, "Remember, it's very difficult to make money in fields you're not familiar with!"
Jack Welles waved his hand, "You've given me a lot for the 'Boyz n the Hood' project."
He was referring to the matter of resolving the Bloods gang members causing trouble at the film crew.
"Take it. I know you know a lot of people in that area. Keep the relationship good. I don't care about this little bit!"
Aaron is now a millionaire. Does he care about ten or twenty thousand?
"Okay..." Jack Welles's income is much higher than CAA's now. Although he's not a rich man, he's at least a middle-class income earner.
However, he was very angry about being induced to buy 24,000 shares of this penny stock and has decided never to touch stocks again.
By the way, he won't touch the futures that Aaron mentioned either!
The next day, Jack Welles took two friends directly to Long Island, New York, to find the company that had defrauded him.
Aaron stayed in Los Angeles, watching over the renovation of the Angel Theater.
However, when it came to stocks, the first thing that popped into Aaron's mind at this time was Microsoft!
Now Microsoft is $62 per share, with a market value of almost $9.1 billion. What a great opportunity. After 'Ghost' is released next year, Aaron must invest in it for the long term.
With the continued rise in crude oil prices, Aaron's mood was extremely happy every day. He invested the subsequent $700,000!
It was just the beginning of October. Aaron looked at the oil price as usual, "$42 a barrel?"
"Honey, I'm going out for a while. Go book a candlelight dinner at the best hotel. Let's have a good celebration tonight!"
Aaron jumped up, kissed Nicole Kidman on the face, and ran out.
Nicole Kidman looked at the newspapers spread out on the table. Aaron was also playing in finance?
Without a single mistake, the first capital of the first inner content is checked at a glance!
That day, Aaron was going to sell all his futures, regardless of what the staff said about the price still having the potential to rise.
"No, I need money, sell it all, quickly!"
You can't be greedy with this kind of thing. It's enough to rise from $30 a barrel to $42 a barrel.
The subsequent $700,000 was invested when it was at $35/barrel.
Aaron invested $2 million, plus the subsequent $700,000, for a total of $2.7 million, but he used 20x leverage, with a 20% to 40% increase.
After deducting various taxes and commissions, Aaron's $2.7 million became $14.8 million!
On the other side of New York, Jack Welles and his two friends found Stratton Oakmont in an abandoned garage in Nassau County, Long Island.
"Was I scammed out of $12,000 by this guy?"
Jack Welles and his two friends, armed with baseball bats, trashed the shabby Stratton Oakmont office.
Four or five employees in the company were lying on the ground groaning with bruised faces.
A white man in his late twenties was even more miserable, his clothes torn, his face swollen, and blood flowing from the corner of his mouth, because he was the boss!
"F*ck, were you the one who called me and fooled me into buying 24,000 shares of some Aerotyne International stock?"
"A high-end defense technology company?"
"A supplier of parts for new fighter jets?"
"The procedures are being approved?"
Jack Welles kicked the guy on the ground again and again, and the person on the ground screamed repeatedly.
"Say, what's your name? You must have scammed a lot of people!"
"Sir, we're just promoting stocks."
"Bang, bang," Jack Welles said, kicking him twice more.
"Name, don't you know it's illegal to promote penny stocks like this? F*ck, you sons of b*tches are simply lawless!"
"Ah, sir, my name is Jordan, Jordan Belfort..."
