HOW DID I GET MARRIED?

Chapter 30:Divorce

Sholana glared angrily at the lawyer making him feel extremely uncomfortable, all he had to do was to take her signature! , why was this woman making it so hard for him?....

"I'm not signing anything till I speak to Nathan and he explains this to me!" Shola said looking determined.

"Miss Sholana, Mr Nathan sent me here because he said he doesn't want to see you any more"

"Lies!" Shola tried to get up but felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, she groaned in pain clutching her stomach

"Shola calm down, you don't want to hurt the baby" Lilian lectured, her voice was low and the lawyer could only hear a few words.

"Miss Sholana, please do not make things worse than they already are, Mr Nathan said i should not leave here without your signature and look, he has signed the papers as well"

Shola stared at that familiar name on the paper and tears welled up in her eyes.

"He really signed it...I don't understand any of this!, how did he even.....how could he?"

After she finished her words she signed the papers and and handed it over to the lawyer

"Here!, tell him that i appreciate everything he has done for me and tell him that I understand and wish him all the happiness in the world" Shola said all this with a straight and calm face.

When the lawyer left, she broke down; she hugged Lilian and cried for hours and eventually cried herself to sleep.

Nathan's car was parked in front of the hospital, his eyes were closed but he wasn't sleeping.

His whole body and mind felt exhausted, he felt so guilty that he couldn't move.

Jenner looked at her friend and couldn't help buy feel bad for him

"Won't you at least go in and see her, she must be very hurt, she would want to hear these words from you"

"I signed a contract with mother, as long as I show her the divorce papers, she would hand over the antidote to Lilian, I'm afraid J.R, If I go in now.....I won't be able to do it, I won't be able to leave her"

The lawyer entered the car, his stared at his boss for a while not knowing if he should tell him about what happened or not

"Speak" Nathan said said, his eyes still closed but his voice was cold and without emotion

it seems their boss has reverted back to his old self

"Mr Lu, Miss Sholana signed the papers and...."

Nathan opened his eyes and looked at the lawyer "And what?"

"She says that she is appreciative of everything you done for her and that she understands.....she wishes you all the happiness in the world" Nathan felt his eyes stinging, his fists trembled. He muttered a few words under his breath

"Sir?" The lawyer asked trying to listen attentively

This time his voice was loud and clear

"Get out!, both of you!"

"Lets leave him alone for a while" Jenner signaled the lawyer and they both left the car.

Nathan got into the driver's seat and drove off, his destination was unknown.

All he wanted to do was just be alone, to go far away.

People said his karma would finally catch up with him and now, his past was catching up to him, he was being punished!.

After the divorce was finalized, Shola left City S because she didn't see any reason to stay there anymore.

She knew that she had to tell Nathan about her being pregnant but she couldn't bring her self to do it, to meet him, to risk losing her child.

She didn't want her child to go through what the old madam had put her through, she didn't want her child to have a step- mother!

"Sholana, are you sure about this?" Jason was worried, she hasn't been herself since the divorce and she hardly spoke to anyone

The antidote was given to her but she still looked like a sick person, she looked pale and had lost alot of weight.

"You don't have to worry about me, being with my father and brother is actually the best option for me and my child.

Going there would be like a fresh start for me, I am perfectly fine with this decision" Shola forced a smile, she put her hand on her lower abdomen and stared at it in a daze, she waved Lilian and Jason good bye before getting into the plane.

Sitting by the window and staring at the clouds, her mind was far away....she thought of the time she first confessed to Nathan, their wonderful nights together ; she couldn't seem to find the reason for all of this, in just a blink of her eyes all of her happiness had been taken away, the only joy she had in this life now was this child she was expecting.

Tears rolled down her cheek, she tried to hold them back but she couldn't.

"Tissue?" The woman next to her asked, she seemed to be in her mid-thirties, dark green eyes that were piercing and somehow gave Shola a sense of familiarity

"Thank you" Shola took the tissues from the woman drying her tears

"It seems you're going to England for the same reason I am" The woman said, a playful smile appeared on her lips

"We probably both want new beginnings"

Shola looked at the woman in shock, she was pretty sure her problems weren't written on her face....or were they?

"Don't get so shocked, I just know because if I was your age I would've had on the same expression, the both of us are quite similar"

Shola smiled a bit at the woman but soon her mind wandered off again, she felt a warm palm on her's, it felt very comforting

Shola raised her head and stared into the woman's eyes.

The woman noticed the dark circles and her watery eyes

"Ay.....Listen, I know you might not want to tell your story but I will just give you one advice; don't let bad things that happened in your past define your future.

Life is short my dear, and dwelling on one thing all your life will make you die filled with regret.

let go of the past and accept your future hmm?"

Shola looked at the woman, her heart throbbed with admiration.

It was obvious that such a young woman had experienced alot in her life.

"Thank you, your words mean alot"

"No problem sis, Nina by the way. Nina Collins" she did sort of look British but didn't have their accent, Shola didn't mind "Sholana. Sholana L....., Sholana Gregory " she said with a smile.

The flight that was meant to be long didn't seem so boring after all.

Shola did tell the woman her reason for leaving City S and yes, she told her the whole story (well, her part of the story)"

The woman also told her of her experiences as well.

Nina didn't really have an easy childhood, growing up she always pretended to be someone she was not, just to gain affection from her parents.

She did get what she wanted but in the end, her parents used her own feelings against her forcing her to marry numerous men for the sake of business.

None of the marriages ever lasted, none of the men were close to her age and none of the families were welcoming, she soon gave up and left!

They don't even know where she is now as none of them cared to contact her to find out how she was doing.

They think she's still married to one of their business partners.

But she had already divorced him a long time ago, they would have known if they actually tried to check on her!

"That is so cruel!, not even a text?"

"Not even a letter!" Nina replied with a slight smile on her face.

Sholana shook her head, that wasn't right, they were supposed to be her family not her life controllers.

"Well, now we're both free to do whatever we want, and I don't know why but I can't wait for that baby to be born, I feel like it is also part of my new beginning.

I would like to be the god mother"

"No problem Nina except.....I think Joanna is going to have to drag that spot with you"

Nina laughed heartedly "That's good, I love a good competition!"

They both went to sleep with smiles on their faces, although their hearts were still hurt, they were still hopeful that their their new beginnings, starting tomorrow, would hold better plans for them.

Nathan left City S also aft the divorce was finalized, he didn't want to be close to his mother ad most definitely didn't want to bump into Sholana.

"She must hate me now...."

"She doesn't, she did say she understands, you should at least call her even though you can't tell her truth...why can't you tell her the truth, again?"

Nathan took a deep breath and stared outside the window of the plane

"Mother still has it, locked up somewhere; she still has the poison.

I don't want to take my chances

She only got into all of this mess because of me...

I have to let her go"

Nathan sighed, it wasn't an easy decision but he had to do it for her sake, even though she hated him.

He would have told his father about all of this but...his father was way worse than his mother, he couldn't imagine the things his father would make him do just for his help.
