I Am A Prodigy

Chapter 206: Only One Way!

Xiao Feifei slowly sat up from the bed. Her face was crimson and she shied away from looking at Ye Lingchen.

“Feifei, here’s your porridge.” Sister Lin came in just then with the bowl of porridge.

“Sister Feifei, hurry up and eat,” Ye Lingchen smiled and urged.

Xiao Feifei answered with a soft grunt and proceeded to consume her porridge slowly. It had been a while since she enjoyed the wonderful taste of food.

She took her time to eat. Tears gradually began to fill her eye sockets but she pursed her lips and stopped herself from crying.

“Lingchen, am I dreaming?” Xiao Feifei looked at Ye Lingchen abruptly and asked.

Her brain was a little hazy. She had already come to terms with death, choosing to stay at home and make preparations to leave quietly. Never in her wildest dreams would she expect Ye Lingchen to fall from the sky and cure her disease.

“Sister Feifei, this isn’t a dream!”

“Lingchen, you are really amazing. You even have medical knowledge.” Xiao Feifei tilted her head and looked at Ye Lingchen. All she felt was the radiance emanating from Ye Lingchen’s entire body. He was like her own Prince Charming, pulling her out of the abyss when she was at her most desperate and helpless.

Xiao Feifei’s look made Ye Lingchen touch his nose guiltily. “Sister Feifei, I’ll prepare some medicine for you. From now on, just follow my instructions and make the medicine. Take it once in the morning and once at night, and it’ll cure the Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu.”

“Lingchen, thank you.” Xiao Feifei’s voice was very soft. She leaned her head toward Ye Lingchen. “I don’t know how to show you my gratitude.”

Ye Lingchen exhaled slowly. “Sister Feifei, there’s no need to be so formal. It was my pleasure.”

“Tell me. How can I thank you?” Xiao Feifei continued to lean her head against Ye Lingchen. There was a touch of playfulness in her beautiful eyes. “I can promise you anything.”

Ye Lingchen’s breathing unwittingly became heavy. He could feel Xiao Feifei’s breath on his face. Clearing his throat, he quickly pulled back, “Sister Feifei, it’s fine. Really. I’ll prepare the medicine for you.”

“Humph!”

Xiao Feifei snorted with a disappointed look in her eyes. He had naughty thoughts but was simply too afraid to act on them.

She urged him to stay, but after a lengthy struggle with his conscience, Ye Lingchen eventually decided not to spend the night at Xiao Feifei’s house.

At the same time, all of Capital’s hospitals were brightly lit regardless of size or capacity. Countless people were kept within hospital confines, and the treatment team was facing a never-ending wave of patients.

Metropolis Hospital.

The premier people’s hospital in Capital was an indisputable authority. Every doctor there was the finest medical professors within the country. They were also considered to be highly-skilled medical professionals, even when compared to their international peers. At that time however, they were gathered together with frowns on their faces.

Over the past week, the entire hospital—from the higher-up hospital directors to the lower-level nurses—worked overtime together. They took turns with their duties whenever they were tired, and their total rest time amounted to no more than seven hours a day!

Among those in the medical laboratory were five senior doctors who represented the crème de la crème. Others were similarly talented medical professionals. There were practitioners in traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine—no one was left out!

The five old men wore white medical robes. They had greyish hair and strength of spirit that stood out from the masses. One of the old men was Grandmaster Jiang, whom Ye Lingchen had met before!

Amidst the other four people was an old man with sunken eye sockets. His eyes were red and he seemed to be in a little trance. He looked as though he suffered a tremendous beating from all that fatigue.

“Old Yu, why don’t you have some rest first. Your body will break down this way!” Grandmaster Jiang gave the old man a sympathetic glance and lamented.

“I’m okay!” Old Yu shook his head. He kept his eyes glued on the research data and remained in the lab to watch the evolution of the Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu virus.

“Old Yu! We’ll be here watching. You should get some rest first!” Another old man directly stood in front of Old Yu and yelled sharply, “Your body is fundamental to your life! We don’t need to be in too much hurry at this moment!”

“Back off!” Old Yu wanted to push away the old man.

“Go and rest!”

“Back off, now!” Old Yu’s entire face was red. His bloodshot eyes teared up and he growled, “I may not be in a hurry, but my grandson is! He can’t wait any longer!”

After completing his sentence, he walked straight past the other old man and went to each computer so everyone could tell him about the virus’ characteristics.

The atmosphere in the entire office became extremely solemn and painful.

“Old Yu, it’s not just your grandson who’s sick. We’re all anxious.” Grandmaster Jiang sighed heavily before asking, “Does everyone have any results now? How did the Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu come about? How do we prevent it? What is it afraid of?”

Everyone in the office looked at each other and pursed their lips.

After a prolonged silence, someone then said, “The characteristics of Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu is very similar to that of your ordinary influenza virus, except for the fact that the virus has a strong ability to mutate. Conventional drugs are only able to suppress it temporarily, and after that, Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu will develop rapid resistance to the drugs, making it even more difficult to kill. ”

“With our current standards, prevention is the only way. We cannot cure it!” That was the conclusion.

“After all that research, this useless piece of information is the only thing you came up with?!” Old Yu was so angry that he lost himself. In the end, he could no longer control his tears from flowing.

He moved aside the medical instruments and thought of experimenting ways to fight the virus, but those tears had already blurred his eyes.

“Old Yu, everything has a silver lining,” an old man assured.

“When my grandson got sick, he smiled at me. He said he was not afraid at all, because his grandpa is a medical doctor who can cure him.” Old Yu cried silently. “From the moment he started coughing up until he had a forty-degree high fever, the only thing I could do is watch it. I’m too useless!”

“So far, there is only one way!”

At that moment, Grandmaster Jiang gritted his teeth and said suddenly.

During that time, the figure of a boy had been constantly popping up in his mind. After so much hesitation, he finally decided to give it a try!

“What way?” Everyone’s eyes looked at him in an instant. Old Yu, in particular, was staring at Grandmaster Jiang.

“I know a person whose medical knowledge is strong.” Grandmaster Jiang took a deep breath. “In this situation, he might be only one who has a way.”

“Strong? How strong is he?”

“I am far behind him!”

Gasp!

Everyone inhaled sharply. Grandmaster Jiang was a medical champion, so if he could say those words, how strong were the other party’s medical skills, exactly?

It was frightening!

“Grandmaster Jiang, does such a person really exist?” some people could not help but question him. Grandmaster Jiang might not even have the right to make such a remark if Hua Tuo[1] was still alive.

“Where is he?” Old Yu saw the last hope and said immediately, “I’ll invite him here even if I have to kowtow to him!”

“He’s in Capital. I’ll contact him now.” Grandmaster Jiang took out his mobile phone. “Don’t worry, you can say that he and I are friends. No matter what happens, I’ll make sure he’s here!”

He took out his mobile phone as soon as he finished talking and dialed Ye Lingchen’s phone…

[1] 华佗 – Hua Tuo was a Chinese physician that lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty and was reputedly a legendary doctor during his time.
