Conspiracy (12)

Roelin firmly resolved and opened her eyes again before opening her mouth at Lucy.

“The other wish that was said earlier.”

“……what?”

Lucy was holding onto Roelin’s hand and looked straight towards her at the sudden words. Roelin made a promise while facing that very gaze.

“I’ll make that wish come true.”

A child who looked just like her and Kergel.

She wished to have a child as well. Their own child. She wanted to see Kergel holding their child in his arms. Roelin opened her mouth once again with a strong will.

“I’ve never received that kind of motherhood, so I’ll probably be very bad at being a mother. So… during the time to raise a child, Lucy needs to help a lot.”

“………no, of course. Leave it to me. But I have to correct something first.”

“What?”

“The Empress will definitely be a good mother. Being clumsy doesn’t mean that you are a bad mother. The most important thing is to love the child.”

Roelin listened to Lucy and dreamed of her future. How would it feel like to be a mother? As Lucy had said, could she really be a good mother?

Could she really do that when she herself had grown up without knowing her mother?

She tried to forget the fear and pain of the upcoming third attack and lost herself in her own imagination of the future. Then, as soon as she was about to fall asleep, she woke up to the sharp sound of metal and roaring screams from just outside of the tent.

“What is the…”

“There must be intruders.”

Lucy instantly stood in front of the bed and prepared for the presence of an intruder.

Clang! Clang!

The sounds and clamors of the swords as well as swords colliding soon continued. Roelin flexed her arms and gradually rose to her feet.

At that very moment, someone tore the tent and stepped inside. Roelin stared at him in surprise. A black masked man could be seen standing there with a sword.

“Never…… never. You can’t go to the Empress…… kuhk.”

The neck of the soldier who was hanging onto the leg of that masked man was pierced mercilessly. It was pierced by the same sword that the man had been holding just now. The soldier screamed while spewing blood and soon fell to his death.

The man eventually drew out the sword that he had stuck through the soldier’s neck and bowed as if he was greeting her with an exaggerated gesture before opening his mouth in response.

“Here you are, Empress. I’ve been looking for a long time but a ‘nasty old man’ dares to interrupt.”

“Duke Bönt—where is the Duke? What did you do to the Duke?”

The term ‘nasty old man’ that appeared in the man’s words must have meant Duke Bönt. Roelin asked him about the Duke in spite of the crisis she was currently facing. Then, the man simply giggled and shrugged his shoulders instead.

“I don’t really know. Perhaps he has already become a hedgehog and died by now? No matter how old you are, you will never be able to stop dozens of killers attacking you all at once.”

Of course, more than a dozen of killers had already died at the hands of the Duke of Bönt before him. The man then clicked his tongue.

Due to this incident, he had suffered such a great loss. It was even no exaggeration to say that the amount of money to be received after successfully completing this request had been absurdly small. Especially in consideration of the amount of time and money spent to raise those assassins from before.

‘If only it wasn’t for Rakain’s royal commission……’

No matter how secretive they had been, they still couldn’t act in defiance towards the Royal Family. So, he had no choice but to accept the request even though he already anticipated some damages to a certain extent as well.

The problem was the fact that he had suffered even more damage than expected.

‘Anyway, I’ll just finish up the request successfully and negotiate again—money or something else.’

The man’s eyes were filled with such greed. He was already calculating the situation afterwards on the premise of Roelin’s death.

But that had been the man’s own defeat.

“Then, you will slowly die…… damn it!”

The man tried to approach Roelin with a sword, but hurriedly ducked instead. At the same time, a huge wind blustered into the tent. It was literally like the wind—a gale that had been created by a sword.

“Empress! Are you okay?”

As soon as the person who created the wind rushed into the tent, Roelin was asked if she had been safe. Roelin just stared at him and opened her eyes wide in return.

“Duke!”

“Duke!”

Lucy could also see him, the Duke of Bönt, and cried in astonishment. However, Duke Bönt’s appearance was utterly atrocious.

It was not an exaggeration to say that his whole body had been mutilated and blood kept on pouring out from each of the wounds before creating pools of blood everywhere he had stepped on.

“Go, Duke! There are cuts…… Come on, let’s stop the injury first……”

“This kind of wound will be cured even if it is just left alone. First of all, I’m going to catch that rat.”

The Duke deliberately laughed aloud and swung his sword towards somewhere in the tent. Then, the hidden killer appeared on the spot before he avoided it to the side again.

“Where are you going to run away?”

“You old man, you do have a long life after all!”

The man gritted his teeth and dodged again. On the other hand, the man continued hurling daggers at the Duke of Bönt. As a result, many other wounds had also increased all over the Duke’s body.
