Chapter 6.1

“Okay, come down to the dining room for lunch.”

“Why?”

“We used to always eat together. I felt so empty when you didn’t come down yesterday and earlier this morning.”

Suga’s expression was serious. With a discontented look on his face, he stared at me persistently.

The reason we ate together in the dining room was just to get information about Merchen.

Now that I don’t have anything else to gain, why should we continue eating together?

Not to mention, a few days ago, I was absolutely fed up when Count Hauser and those goons piled a tower of food onto my plate like they were competing.

It was until I knocked down the food tower, spilling it, I could enjoy my meal in peace.

“Okay.”

I had gotten so comfortable eating my meal with Rory in the room, but I couldn’t afford to stoke unneeded jealousy again.

Thinking so, I decided the better choice of not provoking them at the moment.

“Okay. I’ll pick you up at lunch.”

Perhaps liking my answer, Suga grinned and left.

I clicked my tongue.

His smile when he looked at me was angelic, but when he turned around and glared at Rory, it turned cruel.

The frightened child, fearful of what would happen, lowered his eyes.

When I slightly grabbed a hold of the child’s hand, his soft pink eyes stared at me attentively.

“I’m sorry, my lady.”

“Huh? Why awe you sorry?”

“I think you argued with the young master because of me.”

Rory, who was sullen, lowered his head lower and lower.

I grabbed him by the cheek and pulled him closer to face me.

Thanks to this, his already big eyes became bigger.

“Listen, the twings that happen in this mansion is not youw fault. So don’t lower your head.”

“But…”

“It’s twue. Believe me.”

He nodded slightly as I spoke unwaveringly while looking at him.

Rory Valiette was very kind. I gently patted his silver hair and smiled.

“Rory, stawting today, let’s eat at the dining woom with Anne. No matter what happens, don’t go alone. Come to my woom right after you eat.”

“Yes, lady.”

With his demeanor easing up slightly, the child gave a relaxed answer and smiled. The dimples formed from his smile were just endearing.

Despite being a head taller when at a three-year-old’s eye level, Rory was just a small kid with small hands and two red cheeks.

I can’t believe they were bullying a child like this. It’s not fair. With reinvigorated resolve, I looked into the eyes of this pure child.

Let’s not let those pretty eyes shed tears. Let’s protect him.

It was only a few hours since I made that commitment.

“Ahh!” It happened in a flash.

I was with a maid named Bernada after lunch. She was the girl who switched with Anne because she had to go eat.

Rory followed Anne down to the dining room. He was probably busy greeting and learning about many things from the servants.

Bernada brushed my teeth and put me to sleep during the day.

I didn’t want to sleep, but it only took a few pats on the stomach for this small and delicate body of mine to enter dreamland. I think I slept for about an hour.

“Ahh!” The shrill scream was that of a child.

I woke up in surprise, and Anne, who was next to me, jumped out of her seat.

Without saying anything to Anne, I headed straight to Rory’s room.

“Hey, Rory! What’s the mattew?!”

“Is something wrong? Awe you okay?”

Thump, thump!

Anne and I knocked on the door urgently, but to no avail; it was shut tight.

“Ugh… sniff…”

There was no answer, but I heard whimpers. Sensing that something was amiss, Anne went down to look for the key.

“Rory, it’s me. Open the door! Huh?”

“No!”

“Why! Why not? What’s going on?”
