I Deserve A Second Chance

Chapter 156 - Blind Sided

"I don't understand what you were actually trying to achieve by attacking her in public like that! Are you stupid?"

Charles was pacing around the room anxiously. His steps were heavier as they went. He brought his hand up to loosen up the tie around his collar and then he unbuttoned the first one.

Heaving a deep sigh, Charles turned around and spread his arm wide apart, "All I'm asking is for you to be patient. And just this little patience you don't even possessed."

Her self-control started to wear off. Helen shot her feet off the floor, and abruptly stood up and yelled back, "What the hell are you talking about? You kept telling me to be patient, yet you didn't do or say anything! How can I be patient while trusting you?"

Charles clenched his hand to a fist, trying to hold his anger in and not to hit her. He took a deep breath, and controlled his anger that was about to erupt.

He walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows and looked outside. The sun was glaring at him. Charles tried so hard to focus his attention to the traffic down there; trying to calm his own fire.

"My dear wife," he sounded so tired, yet he drawled and said slowly, "I have been working with some people to disrupt their Wu tea business in Taiwan. Soon, she will have to leave Shanghai to save her family," Charles spoke to Helen as if he was treating a child, "if you want to stab someone, be a little smarter. Work with their enemies, so all the fingers won't come back to us."

Helen rolled her eyes, and snorted, "Hmph, the classic way of disturbing business. Did you watch too many Chinese soap drama, dear? Be a little more creative, will you? And why don't we just get Daddy to buy the company, hubby?" She said sarcastically.

Charles could feel his forehead is aching. This stupid wife.

.....

He was initially attracted to her because of her name and family background. And then he met Helen the first time, he saw that she was really attractive; a seductive vixen. So he decided to leave everything and bet his life on this woman.

But the one thing this woman did not have was a working brain. So he had to step in as her brain all the time.

Charles sighed inwardly.

Lately, he had been thinking more about the past. He was reminded of the simplicity and pure happiness that he used to have. And Charles felt that his heart and his mind started to waver.

But he gritted his teeth stubbornly. He had sacrificed too much. It was too late to change now.

Charles ran his fingers through his hair; trying to curb his frustration. All of a sudden, he turned around and walked over to the sofa.

He grabbed the suit jacket he had put there, and started to walk to the exit.

Helen raised up to her feet and started to yell, "H- Hubby! Where are you going?" Helen called him in panic. Seeing no response, she started to call him again, "Charles! Get your ass back here!"

But all she got in return was the door being slammed right in front of her face.

.....

Shao Yan and Risa returned to the office after lunch, and she was back to burying herself in her emails. All that could be heard from her is the click clack typing sound of keyboards.

Her hand reached out to her mug; wanting to sip some water. She picked it up and realized the mug was already empty.

Shao Yan got up from her seat, but all of a sudden, her phone rang.

She saw Li Xiqing's name showed up on the screen, so Shao Yan picked it up right away.

"Yan Yan, what time do you want me to pick you up?"

Shao Yan lifted her wrist to glance at the time, "Um, maybe in thirty minutes you can leave the office. I'm still working on the last two emails."

Li Xiqing hummed, "Alright, just take your time. We need to do some grocery shopping tonight."

Shao Yan rose up, with her mug in her hand, she started to walk to the water dispenser, "Oh, that's right, we don't have anything left at home. Alright, let's do it tonight. What do you want to cook?"

"Hm.. I was thinking of some potato and carrot soup, stir fry bean sprouts with anchovy and also some sweet and sour pork. What do you think?"

Shao Yan stopped on her track, and slowly smiled at herself, "Xiqing~ you make me so hungry now. Yes, let's have that for tonight."

She could hear Li Xiqing is chuckling on the other side of the phone; her face gradually blushes.

The deep, throttle laugh vibrated through her ears and left an intense impression in her heart.

She missed him so much.

Shao Yan silently promised herself to work faster so she could go home earlier.

Back to the arms of her man.

.....

When she had finally finished for the night, Shao Yan quickly picked up her stuff and went downstairs.

Li Xiqing had been waiting for a while. He was sitting on the couch in the lobby area and was playing with his phone.

Shao Yan saw him right away, and was reminded of the moment when she saw him for the first time.

He was wearing his reading glasses then, and was sitting in the coffee shop while waiting for her. And now he was still doing the same thing. Still a handsome man as usual. Still emitted the same charming aura.

Shao Yan broke into a small run, and quickly approached him. As she got nearer, she hastened her speed and then she slumped her body next to him.

"Xiqing!" She called him excitedly.

Due to the impact, his body swayed to the side a little, but Li Xiqing quickly steadied himself.

His arms reflexively reached behind her back and pulled her shoulder in.
