Chapter 22: You Were A Rare Case (1/2)

The next day, Ji Yu, refreshed and full of energy, took Little Yu Zhou out alone.

This was their first outing together.

At first, Ji Yu thought that everything would be simple, but when he looked at the bulging child-care bag prepared by the nanny, he was dumbfounded.

Upon opening the bag:

Diapers, feeding bottles, thermos bottles filled with hot water, portable milk powder, paper towels, small jackets, small hats... all kinds of things were stuffed inside, making it quite heavy.

At first, Ji Yu had wanted to take Little Yu Zhou to stroll around the public lake park1, opposite of his residential area, for some fresh air. However, he couldn’t get into the mood for the lake at all, and decided to head to their destination directly.

“You like cars, right?”

Ji Yu, sitting in the backseat of a cab, was looking out the window and pointed to the passing scenery to Little Yu Zhou. 2

Little Yu Zhou, however, didn’t seem to be interested in the scenery outside. Instead, he lowered his head and moved his fleshy little hands onto everything inside the car. Touching here and there, digging this and that, his eyes was gleaming with focus.

After a while, Little Yu Zhou moved to the window. He touched the glass with his fingers and began aggressively knocking on it with his hands.

“O, yoh?” Little Yu Zhou patted the window and looked up at Ji Yu in surprise, “Yoh!”

Ji Yu smiled, “What it is?”

Hearing Ji Yu response, Little Yu Zhou got more excited and his “yoh” got even louder. His hands continue rapping on the glass window.

Ji Yu quickly grabbed the child’s hands: “You can’t bang on the car windows. This is very bad, understand?”

Little Yu Zhou looked down at his hands, then at Ji Yu, and then let out an ignorant “Ah.” 3

Ji Yu took out a bag of wet wipes from his bag, lowered his head, and begin wiping Little Yu Zhou’s hands.

After a while, one of the two meaty little paws stained with dust became clean again.

Ji Yu: “Change to the other hand. Do you know what ‘change to the other hand’ means?”

“Wu?” Little Yu Zhou looked at his hands in confusion.

Ji Yu didn’t immediately answer. Instead, when Little Yu Zhou looked over, he pressed his lips onto the child’s remaining hand, implying that the child should stretch it out.

Unexpectedly, an accident happens at this moment!

The cab driver slammed on the brakes, and the harsh braking sound rang out into everyone’s ears.

Ji Yu and the child was thrown forward, but he reacted quickly. He firmly held on to Little Yu Zhou with one hand, while pushing the front seat with his other hand. He tried his best to create as much space around Little Yu Zhou as possible to prevent the child from getting crush.

Fortunately, the accident was minor, and the car was only scratched up a little.

Ji Yu was not injured, only a little frightened. His forehead did hit the back of the chair in front of him, which hurt a little, but didn't break the skin.

Ji Yu didn’t even bothered with himself, and immediately check to see if Little Yu Zhou was injured.

Little Yu Zhou seemed to be petrified. His little hands tightly grasped onto Ji Yu's clothes, and his whole person shrunk into Ji Yu’s arms. Mist had begun gathering in Little Yu Zhou’s eyes, and it seemed that he was about to cry in the next second.

Ji Yu picked up the child and checked to make sure he didn’t bump into anything. Then he lowered his head, kissed the child’s forehead, and patted the child’s back: “It’s alright. It’ll be alright.”

Ji Yu opened the door and got out of the car. The cab driver was already outside, talking to two young people.

Before he could figure out what happened, Ji Yu remained silent. He pressed down his anger and approached the driver to listen to what they were saying. However, when the two young people saw him, they both looked at him in surprised.

“Ji Yu?”

“Ji Yu?”

Ji Yu blanked out for a second, a bit confused. 4

How are these two people? Do they know him? But he doesn’t know them.

…How should he respond?

Before Ji Yu could react, the cab driver came over and apologize, “Sorry, sorry. Was your child scared? It was just a little bump, but I’ll wave the fare for you. You guys need to go to the hospital for a check-up, right? If you want, I could send you there, free of charge.”

Ji Yu didn’t answer, but asked, “Whose fault is the accident?”

A tall young man answered, “It’s my fault. I misjudged the distance between both cars.”

He took out his phone and asked for the cab driver’s WeChat account, “Sir, why don’t we go to the side and settle the matter first. There’s no need to make a big deal. I admit, I was at fault.” 5

“Alright.” The cab driver nodded, and then he turned to Ji Yu, “The car is fine, it can still be driven. I’ll take you there in a bit, wait for me.”

“En.”

The accident was just a few scratches, no one wants to make a big deal out of things.

The two drivers drove their cars to the side of the road, and began discussing things among themselves. Ji Yu held little Yu Zhou and stood on the sidewalk along with the other young man.

Ji Yu didn’t say a word, and neither did the young man.

Ji Yu felt that the other person was not very friendly towards him.

Despite knowing Ji Yu, the young man had a cold and standoffish attitude. He didn’t even greet Ji Yu when they stood together. From time to time, the young man would glanced at Ji Yu with a hint of scrutiny, as if he was secretly judging something in his heart.

Was there any animosity between him and the original Ji Yu?

Or did he discover something was wrong after meeting Ji Yu just now?

“Ji Yu, long time no see.”

In the end, the young man spoke first.

Ji Yu replied: “Yes, long time no see.”

He raised his eyes to meet the young man’s light brown eyes.

The young man raised his eyebrows, “You don’t seem very surprised to see me.”

JI Yu remained silent.

The young man’s eyes became colder, and, though his voice was soft, it did not sound gentle at all, “You know about my return to the country? Did he tell you?”

Ji Yu: “…”

What the heck is this guy talking about? Who is “he”?

Ji Yu didn’t understand so he chose to remain quiet.

“I knew it.” The young man lowered his eyes, and smiled with self-deprecation.

Ji Yu: “??”

“Does he treat you well?”

The young man put his hands in his pockets, and stare off into the traffics in front of him, “I certainly didn’t expect you to be able to hook him again. Not a bad trick, you poor little wench.”
