"It's bad! Zombies are entering the city! Run!"

"Run west! Everyone, go through the west gate! Run!"

In the Baisan Resettlement in Yuanjiang City, chaos erupted just as night fell. Someone was shouting at the top of their lungs, and the streets were filled with panicked people fleeing.

"What's going on?" Mayor E walked onto the street and grabbed a fleeing civilian to ask.

"Zombies are attacking! Run!" The civilian shook off Mayor E's hand and continued to run forward.

"Zombies are attacking? How is that possible?" Mayor E looked astonished.

He checked the time; it was only a little past eight.

Judging by the time, even if zombies were attacking the city, they couldn't have arrived at the resettlement so quickly. After all, they need time to travel, and they can't move during the day. So, the earliest they could attack the resettlement would be after nine.

"Where's the security team leader? Find him for me!" Mayor E shouted to the people behind him.

He knew this was a big deal. If the people panicked and fled the resettlement, the consequences would be severe.

"Mayor E, it's bad! The security team leader has taken people and fled to Black Ridge!" Half an hour later, the person sent to find the security team leader ran back breathlessly to report.

"What? To Black Ridge? What is he doing there?" Mayor E was shocked.

Black Ridge is located less than 10 kilometers west of the Baisan Resettlement. There's only a small county town there, and no resettlement.

"I'm not sure, but everyone is saying that there are no zombies there and it's safe."

"Is the west gate closed?" Mayor E asked.

"Mayor E, it can't be closed! The security team has all run away. The west gate has been taken over by the people. Anyone who dares to close the gate will be beaten!" The person reporting complained.

"Outrageous! Absolutely lawless! Get everyone from the command center. We're going to the west gate! I want to see who dares to do this!" Mayor E was furious.

So, Mayor E led more than a hundred people, in a large group, towards the west gate.

By this time, there were not many people on the street, only a few scattered elderly, weak, sick, and disabled. They were not in good health and were slow on their feet, so they were walking very slowly.

Mayor E didn't have time to pay attention to them, leading his people quickly towards the west.

By the time they arrived at the west gate, it was too late.

The gate was wide open, and there were hardly any people left. The few remaining were slowly walking out of the city.

Seeing this scene, Mayor E clenched his teeth and fists tightly.

"Send a few people back to get the cars. We're going to Black Ridge!" Mayor E ordered.

"Yes!" The secretary acknowledged the order and went to arrange manpower.

Another half an hour later, a convoy of more than a dozen vehicles, including cars and trucks, drove out of the west gate of the Baisan Resettlement and headed towards Black Ridge.

But the speed of the vehicles couldn't be increased at all.

Along the way, they encountered many people still fleeing. Some tried to stop the cars, others ran directly up to them, grabbing the truck railings, preparing to climb onto the trucks. The staff standing in the back of the trucks kept driving them away and pushing them back, forbidding them from getting on.

"Sound the horn! If they don't get out of the way, run them over!" Mayor E ordered with a cold face.

"Ah? This..." The driver was startled by Mayor E's order.

What if someone gets killed?

"Just follow the order! You won't be held responsible for anything that happens!" Mayor E said.

"Oh. Okay." The driver obeyed, turned on the siren, and constantly pressed the horn on the car. A loud siren sounded on the dark road.

Immediately afterward, the driver slowly pressed the accelerator, and the vehicle began to accelerate. The people in front saw the speed increase and hurriedly dodged to both sides.

The driver tried to be careful, trying not to hit anyone.

The speed of the vehicles finally picked up, and the cars behind followed closely, fearing that if they fell behind, they would never catch up. Once surrounded by the crowd, they didn't dare imagine what the consequences would be.

It took nearly an hour to travel the few kilometers.

The road leading directly to Black Ridge was a national highway, and it was the only road connecting it to the Baisan Resettlement.

As they were about to reach Black Ridge, a large tree lying across the road blocked them.

"Who's there? Get out of the car!" Several security team members were squatting behind the tree.

Mayor E opened the car door and got out.

"Put down your guns! What are you doing!?" Mayor E roared.

The bullet landed on the ground in front of Mayor E.
