I have a Synthesizer

#18 - Lilith's Interests

Arriving in the middle of the train, coincidentally, Lilith hadn't actually gone to the toilet. She was also standing in the same spot Klein had been just moments before.

"He seems to have noticed something is wrong. His previous actions all seem to have been deliberate."

Lilith seemed to be talking to herself, but as she finished speaking, a black figure emerged from the shadows where the two carriages connected.

When Klein came over earlier, he hadn't noticed there was someone there at all. Everything he had done had been exposed.

The black figure's voice remained hoarse and low.

"He came over earlier and didn't go to the toilet. You failed."

"Yes, I failed. I was too eager and too deliberate."

Lilith readily admitted her failure. In front of the black figure, there was nothing to be concerned about.

"But it doesn't matter, I haven't come away empty-handed."

"Harvest?" the black figure asked doubtfully.

"Shadow Three, don't you think he's too vigilant?"

"I don't know. I just don't know why you're so fixated on him. I don't think he's a very good choice."

"Shadow Three, this is the second time you've stopped me. It seems this Klein is very special?"

"I just think he's too ordinary."

"Yes, ordinary. If someone is useless enough, then you don't have to worry about others using him."

This turn was a bit sharp, and the black figure nodded.

"But you've stopped me twice in a row, which only means he's not an ordinary person, right?"

Lilith touched her lips, and sharp fangs reappeared from her mouth.

"I'm becoming more and more interested in him."

Sharp teeth, keen eyes, the pure appearance from before vanished, replaced by a wicked smile that felt somewhat fierce.

After tidying her hair and clothes in the mirror, Lilith returned to the carriage.

Watching Lilith enter the carriage, the black figure also disappeared into the shadows of the carriage.

… …

Klein watched Lilith return and immediately switched to a closed-eyes resting mode.

Lilith didn't try to talk to him again, as if all the embarrassment from just now had been forgotten.

The train returned to calm once more.

At this moment, the soldier standing at the head of the carriage picked up a magical megaphone and said.

"Train No. 19, bound for the imperial capital, Palomia, is now starting. Please be seated."

"Rumble!"

With a series of vibrations, this magic-powered train finally started moving.

The train's speed was not fast; Klein estimated it to be about 20-30 kilometers per hour, which was relatively stable.

But if they didn't take the train, ordinary people would have almost no way to travel long distances between cities on their own.

Acting alone without strength was almost equivalent to courting death.

Unless you hired a mercenary group or traveled with a merchant caravan.

But in that case, either the speed was too slow, or the cost increased a hundredfold or a thousandfold.

From a comprehensive perspective, it was far less convenient and faster than the magic-powered train.

… …

On the way out of the city, you could still see some suburban buildings.

Most of these buildings were military structures, mostly watchtowers, bunkers, and fences; civilian buildings were rarely seen.

From this perspective, it was easy to judge how dangerous the area far from the city was.

After leaving the city, the road began to become bumpy, but with earth-type mages making minor adjustments to the road surface, the train's shaking could be effectively reduced.

The train ran in an orderly manner, and most of the passengers chose to read or rest in their seats.

Lilith didn't try to talk to Klein again; the journey was unexpectedly peaceful.

… …

Until the morning of the third day, the train had been running for more than 30 hours, and Klein and the others were only about 2-3 hours away from the imperial capital.

Through the cracks in the window, Mira stretched lazily and said to Klein.

"Klein, can't you make bread? The food on the train is quite expensive. Make some for us; we won't mind if it's not tasty."

"Make do? Not tasty? Heh heh, anyway, it doesn't use your magic power."

Although Klein retorted to Mira, he didn't intend to refuse this request.

Not only Mira, but Joe and he himself were also hungry now.

The food their mother, Katie, had brought them was already finished. If they bought it on the train, the price was too high; they were all students, not worth it.

Pale white arcane energy flickered in his hand. Before long, Klein had kneaded out more than a dozen pieces of bread.

"What about water? You want me to eat it dry?"

Mira stuffed a large piece of bread into her mouth and yelled at Klein.

"Eating mine, drinking mine, and you still dare to yell at me? Spit it out if you don't want it."

Klein said angrily with a constipated expression, but in the end, he honestly conjured up three cups of water.

Unknowingly, Mira had already eaten several pieces of bread with the water.

"Klein, I didn't expect that the bread you conjured up, this half-baked mage, is quite delicious. I feel that your chances of passing the exam have increased from 10% to 20%, doubled, haha."

He was too lazy to pay attention to Mira's mockery. He ate his bread bite by bite; the taste was good.

At this moment, Klein's peripheral vision saw Lilith opposite him, looking at him with a strange expression.

Feeling strange being stared at like this, Klein casually took out a piece of the bread from earlier.

It was the worst, ugliest piece he had just kneaded, the one no one wanted to eat, and handed it over.

"Hungry? Come, come, eat some; don't be polite. It's all made of magic power; can't be wasted."

Lilith frowned slightly but immediately smiled.

"No need, I'm not hungry."

"Don't pretend; you haven't eaten for so long. Here, it's over there. Not eating is giving me no face."

Klein placed the bread in front of Lilith and then ignored her, continuing to eat his own bread.

Lilith stared blankly at the arcane bread in front of her, a trace of disgust hidden within her.

"Thank you."

Taking the bread, she ate it little by little, very elegantly.

"Mira, look at her; that's what you call a lady. Do you have to eat like that? Like a pig."

Klein mocked Mira again, but Mira just said "Tch" and ignored him.

… …

Lilith, who was beside them, ate the bread in small bites. She wasn't pretending to be a lady, but she really found it hard to swallow.

Lilith would never eat arcane bread. It was related to her physiological structure. This kind of food would only make her feel nauseous.

But in front of Klein, she didn't want to interrupt the connection that had been unexpectedly established, so she didn't refuse Klein's bread.

She could only endure the nausea and eat the bread.

After eating the bread, Lilith immediately went to the toilet.

Seeing Lilith heading straight for the toilet, Mira poked Klein.

"It's over, Klein. Your bread made her sick."

Klein looked at the departing Lilith, also puzzled.

… …

"Ugh! Ugh! ~"

Nausea, disgust, the violent reaction produced after the arcane energy neutralized, made Lilith vomit non-stop.

In just a few minutes, she felt that her chest was almost empty, and her strength was also declining.

"This is made of arcane energy. Is it necessary to be like this?" The black figure appeared from behind the door.

"Hey! I can't refuse other people's kindness."

Lilith wiped her mouth and began to tidy her somewhat messy hair.

"Why are you paying so much attention to him?" the black figure said hoarsely.

Lilith's eyes changed for a moment.

"This is also the question I want to ask. If it were someone else, you would never ask. This is the third time.

Why do you always stop me from paying attention to Klein? Is there anything special about him? Shadow Three?"

After a long silence, Lilith didn't get a reply from Shadow Three. She brushed her hair back and turned to leave.
