#229 - The Mystery of Life (Part 1)
The next day, at noon, Klein arrived alone at the Heimann military outpost in the East Border, where his mother, Katie, was stationed.
Because it was noon, the visibility around the outpost was very clear, and the solitary Klein was naturally very conspicuous.
When he was about 100 meters away from the outpost, the guarding soldiers stopped him.
"Stop, who are you?"
Regarding his identity, Klein rarely tried to hide it unless necessary. Although his parents were both hidden powerhouses, on the surface, he was still upright and didn't need to conceal his identity.
"I am a student of the Royal Academy, Klein Alex. I'm on a mission and passing by Belga Fortress, so I came to see my mother, Colonel Katie."
The sentry soldiers exchanged glances.
"This person says he is Colonel Katie's son. Go report it."
"Walk over slowly now, and also, take out your identification."
Klein took out his identification from his ring and handed it to the soldier. After checking that Klein's student ID and Executor mark were genuine, he was allowed into the Heimann outpost.
It had to be said that military outposts were much simpler than fortresses, and many facilities were not perfect, making it seem like it wasn't an excellent working environment.
A soldier led Klein to the military district office and pointed to one of the offices.
"Colonel Katie is in the office. Go in yourself."
Klein nodded his thanks and went alone to the door of Katie's office, knocking on the door.
His mother, Katie's, familiar voice came from inside.
"Come in."
Pushing open the door, Klein saw Katie in her military uniform, reading a book, looking quite focused.
It wasn't just any book she was reading; it was the horror stories he had written before, and she seemed to be enjoying it very much and was engrossed in it.
"Mom."
"Wait a moment, let me finish this chapter."
Klein waited for about 10 minutes before Katie closed the book, stood up, and habitually gave Klein a hug.
"The horror stories are very well written. I didn't realize you could write these. If you have any more in stock, you can give me some."
"Uh, I wrote those years ago. If you ask me to write them now, I don't think I can."
Klein said somewhat guiltily. His labor model pen was gone, so what was he supposed to write? Write with his hands? Don't be ridiculous.
Katie suddenly sniffed Klein's scent.
"Did you fight on the road? You have a very heavy bloody smell on you."
"Uh, there were some battles, but it's okay. I took care of it cleanly."
As Klein spoke, he took out more than a dozen Grandok military tags from his pocket. He had encountered a total of four scattered Grandok squads, ranging from 3-5 people, and he had killed them all.
Katie looked at the military tags on the table and frowned slightly. Of course, she understood what Klein meant by "took care of it cleanly," but the problem was, Klein was alone.
"Klein, in just two years, your growth rate is truly astonishing!"
Klein scanned Katie's office. It wasn't spacious, but in addition to the office area, there was also a private office, which was decent enough.
"Mom, do you usually participate in the border defense work?"
Katie smiled and shook her head, saying:
"No, I'm in charge of security. I do a routine patrol every day, and then I can swagger around and rest in the office.
At most, I occasionally help the people in the military department train the soldiers, but there's nothing else.
If this outpost really gets to the point where I need to take action, then it can only mean that Belga Fortress has been breached."
Klein narrowed his eyes. Katie meant that even if Belga Fortress was breached, her outpost wouldn't be? He pulled out a chair and sat down.
"Is it that powerful?"
Klein didn't directly ask about his background and the Jess Society. He hesitated, not knowing how to bring it up to Katie.
But he had too many suspicions about his origins, identity, and the Jess Society, and he had to ask today, so he was very conflicted.
Katie seemed to see Klein's hesitation and touched his head.
"Yes, Mom is that powerful! I suddenly feel like you're so tall, Klein. You must be 19 Nairies tall. You're really an adult now.
Alright, stop being mysterious. You must have something to ask me today. Just say it. I'll try my best to tell you everything I know."
Their eyes met, and Klein nodded heavily.
"Mom, are you a Title Expert? What level has your strength reached?"
Although Klein had always suspected it and had seen Katie take action once, he could never be sure what level Katie's strength had reached.
Katie was slightly surprised. She didn't seem to have hidden this matter. Didn't he know? Something was wrong.
"You don't even know this kind of thing? It should be written in your Executor Department's introduction manual, right?"
This time, it was Klein's turn to be dumbfounded. The Jess Society's introduction manual? Was that the same thing as the user agreement? No one on Earth read that stuff, right? How was it different here? Klein could only say dryly.
"Okay, I've never read the Executor Department's introduction manual!"
"You didn't even read the Jess Society's introduction manual? Then you just directly joined the Jess Society? What if there's some hidden contract or something? Wouldn't you be scammed?"
"I didn't think of that at the time."
Katie blinked.
"Okay, I'm a Super-Order, which is what you call a Title Expert. I should have two titles, Moonlit Swordsman and Azure Sky Song.
As for my level, I should be considered a bit stronger than the average Title Expert, but much weaker than the Nine Kings."
Klein pondered these words. Look at her, look at how his mother was showing off. The meaning of "much weaker than the Nine Kings" was that she looked down on ordinary Title Experts?
"Mom, are you stronger than the general of Belga Fortress, Ashen Bringer, Olruen?"
"Yes, I'm stronger than him because I fought him before, and he lost."
Alright, you're awesome. Klein was so speechless that he didn't know what to ask next.
"What about Father's strength?"
Katie didn't answer immediately, but thought for a while before saying.
"Your father used to be just an ordinary arcane mage. Don't overthink it. He couldn't hide from me back then, so I'm very sure he was just an ordinary arcane mage before.
But your father is also a genius, a hardworking genius. He's someone who can take something to the extreme.
By researching ancient arcane magic, he gradually transformed from a very ordinary arcane mage into an ancient arcanist with extremely strong combat power. This process probably lasted more than 20 years.
Five years ago, he was only at the Fifth-Order combat power, but the last time we met in the Jess Society, I tested him, and the result was a tie.
Although I didn't use my full strength at the time, his current strength is definitely a solid Super-Order. This is something I didn't expect."
Researching ancient arcane magic to become a Super-Order! Klein thought of when he was reading in the library.
Although he had never met anyone flipping through arcane tomes, he often saw many old arcane tomes that had been read.
In that case, the person researching arcane tomes should be his father, Esmond.
"So, Father accumulated it bit by bit. He really is amazing. Mom, can you tell me more about the Jess Society?"
Katie sighed and then smiled.
"Sigh, it seems you plan to get to the bottom of things today, but there's nothing I can't say.
The Jess Society was founded by the five of us when we were young. We were very ambitious at the time, determined to pursue the truth of the world. Isn't that a ridiculous idea?"
Klein shook his head. The young people of this world hadn't been baptized by the information explosion, so there was nothing wrong with having ideals.
With talent and strength, having lofty ideals only meant that these people were ambitious. He didn't feel there was anything ridiculous about it.
"It's not ridiculous. I think people with this kind of idea are very ambitious."
Katie laughed.
"Hehe, don't comfort me. It was pretty silly to think about it now. There are a total of five founders of the Jess Society.
They are your father, Esmond, me, Kahn John, Dries Muller, and Edward Salrando."
Klein narrowed his eyes. Kahn was one of the founders of the Jess Society. He was prepared for that, but Dries, was that the terrible librarian? If he was one of the founders, how could he have ended up in that state?
Klein didn't interrupt Katie and quietly waited for her to continue.
"You should have already met Kahn. Dries is pretty much useless. As for Edward, he's also missing, but he was the real genius of our Jess Society."
"The real genius?"
"Yes, the real genius. Without him, the Jess Society wouldn't have been able to stand its ground in the capital, which is full of organizations.
Besides being one of the founders of the Jess Society, Edward is also the husband of Empress Qian Jue, the father of three princesses, and the former last of the Nine Kings, the Blue King, also known as the Sea King."
A light flickered in Klein's eyes. Two King-level experts practically represented invincibility on the continent. No wonder the Therella royal family always seemed so steady, but such a person had disappeared.
"Edward led us to found the Jess Society. Then, your father, Esmond, and Dries founded the Jess Society Research Department.
And I led Kahn to found the Jess Society Executor Department. Thus, the two major departments of the Jess Society were established, compatible internally and externally, and began to grow strong.
The Executor mark on your palm, the image of the sword-wielding woman, was designed by Kahn, and that's me."
