2. The Professor: This is the Power of Science!

After keeping a certain distance from the group of Ivans who dared to brawl in their underwear even in the heavy snow, Kefir prepared to meet her teacher—Professor Moriarty.

The Rublyanka Academy in the capital of the Rosian Empire is similar to what I imagine a “university” to be. Although students are divided by grade, they are not uniformly educated. Instead, they choose courses based on their preferences to find their professors.

Advancement is not only limited by basic time and age restrictions but also by “credits.” Would someone like Kefir be troubled by “credits,” a concern only for underachievers? Of course not…

“In fact, I already have enough credits, but I’m staying in the second year because of my age. However, this isn’t without its benefits; the professor’s ‘genius’ is not just talk.”

After leading us into a building, Kefir, with a relaxed expression, said to us.

“This is the professor’s room. Excuse us, Professor Moriarty!”

Following that, Kefir opened the door to one of the offices.

Professor Moriarty, originally a distinguished talent from the Great Ying Empire, found herself teaching at this academy in the Rosia Empire due to entanglement in troublesome power struggles.

Having never had any contact with the other party, even after perusing the script and changing perspectives, I’ve only managed to gather about as much as Kefir has told me regarding this professor’s script.

Since she has the ability to win Kefir’s wholehearted approval, she must be an ally of the protagonist, exuding an aura of righteousness, right?

That’s what I thought before Kefir opened the door, but in the next moment.

The red flame magic stone kept the room warm, and sitting at the desk by the window, just as Kefir had “jealously warned” me, was a petite girl who lifted her head.

As if she had been waiting for our arrival, and even more so, I felt that her gaze was not directed at Kefir, but landed on me first!

“Kefir, welcome back.”

The eye contact, the direct meeting, suddenly expanded the script in my mind about Professor Moriarty. However, I would rather… have never met her.

The professor before me looked just like a child with her youthful face, short flaxen hair, and a jacket and skirt that screamed “Great Ying Empire,” emphasizing her allegiance. Although in many ways she resembled a little midget, the gaze beneath her glasses was not that of an ordinary little girl, clearly indicating she was no mere child, but a midget grown-up.

Intelligent, wise, and even hinting at danger, after all, that’s what the script says.

【Moriarty has set her sights on Ogelid.】

【Moriarty has framed Ogelid.】

【Moriarty has plotted a murder by proxy, killing Ogelid who threatened her existence.】

My role as the arch-villain meant that every character of some standing I met had a script involving “killing me,” even Kefir’s father, who has been pushing us to marry, is included.

But, if it were just for some ordinary or bizarre reason to want me dead, that would be one thing, but the script has reached such a level, indicating that this professor has deliberately targeted me!

It’s our first meeting, and yet why does she hate me so much!? Not to mention the phrases “framing” and “murder by proxy” in the script, they are all new methods I’ve never encountered before.

Instinctively, I stepped behind Kefir, obviously… that’s what the script says, but the professor herself seemed quite ordinary.

“I received notice that you would be returning early, I’m aware of your maid, but this other one… seems to be the rumored fiancé who stole your heart at first sight?”

Kefir panicked, flailing about as if dancing.

“How did you… how do you know!? No, wait! It’s not any fiancé…”

But the professor paid no heed to Kefir.

“The news from the Great Ying Empire has already spread far and wide, Kefir. Although it’s a legal marriage, try not to flaunt it too much in front of me. Like this gentleman hiding behind you, the priest, it’s about time he came out, isn’t it?”

From noble mtl dot come

No escaping it, then.

Just from Kefir’s shy demeanor in front of Moriarty, I could tell: Kefir has a good relationship with her, at least… a very respectful one. Thus, even if I used the excuse of a prophecy to say “this professor is very dangerous,” Kefir probably wouldn’t believe me.

Since there’s no avoiding it, for the sake of my life, I have to face her head-on, while probing this professor, gradually discovering in the script: why she seems to have a deep-seated grudge against me from the moment we met, determined to kill me by any means necessary.

“Hello, my name is Ogelid, Kefir’s personal priest.”

“James Moriarty, originally from the Great Ying Empire, now just an ordinary professor here, and Kefir’s teacher.”

Saying so, the midget Moriarty stood up, put down her cane, and shook hands with me.

“It’s just a bit surprising to me, a private priest from the Great Ying Empire, has it come to the point where you also warm the bed for your employer?”

“Professor!?”

From the very start, Kefiel was so embarrassed by the word “marriage” that she couldn’t think straight, and with a hint of panic, her face flushed as she cried out.

At the same time, as she cautiously met my gaze, she glared at me fiercely, warning me not to get too carried away.

“As for why you, who have rejected countless men’s advances, have suddenly fallen head over heels, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to discuss that later. Kefiel, the new semester for credit upgrades is about to start, don’t get too lazy.”

It was the first time I saw Kefiel at a loss in the face of my unexpected role, being able to spin the true protagonist Kefiel around so easily, I increasingly felt a chill down my spine.

“Kefiel, you’ll continue to live in your dormitory, and your maid will move in with you. As for this priest gentleman, even if you’re reluctant, you can’t let him leave. The Rubiyanka Academy dorms are segregated by gender, so I can only arrange for him to stay in the male dormitory area.”

“By the way, considering I can’t have you two sweetening up in front of me day and night, making this single, older professor unhappy, Mr. Priest, I’ve arranged a temporary student ID for you. During this time, if there’s any course you’re interested in, feel free to attend. Here’s the address, Kefiel, take him to the dormitory and remember to go back, no overnight stays~”

Kefiel, whose face was already beet red, wanted to argue, but I managed to coax her out.

With the appearance of a little midget, she possessed a maturity that belied her looks, calm and elegant yet not rigid, and even had a sense of humor that could tease Kefiel. Sigh… Kefiel’s respected teacher, surely she’s not some “big villain,” right?

At this point, I could only comfort myself and then followed Kefiel closely as we left. After all, within the Rosian Empire, my “death, death, death” script was just beginning.

——

The sound of the door closing returned Moriarty’s room to silence.

Moriarty reached out, carefully peeling off a thin film from her other hand and placing it into the opened briefcase on the table.

Then, with a casual wave of her wand, she initiated a long-distance contract that would astonish onlookers.

“Queen, I’ve obtained his sample. Once it’s delivered back, you can start tracking his hidden identity and information.”

“Mhm, understood. If necessary, I’ll ‘take care of’ it.”
