Chapter 7

2. Mrs. Barnes and Mildred - 2

Gary left after he found out that me and Daniel had already met once. Sandra was also caught up meeting the other guests who just arrived.

Thanks to you, I was left alone with Daniel. He asked me with his arms out.

"Shall we walk for a while?"

Well, I hesitated for a moment. Should I ask for the medical fee? But the treatment has already been done. I.

So there’s no reason to talk to him. Daniel looks like in his late twenties and is a little older than Iris or Lily. If he wasn’t going to be with Iris or Lily, I’d rather not be too close.

No. You know what? Maybe it's not a big deal.

I laid my hand on Daniel's arm, holding a ray of hope. Then he moved his feet and I asked,

"You run a store called Fairy Spring?"

As I said, aristocrats do not work, so it is quite strange to do business. In addition, he's also caught up in the gossip of working in the aristocratic society. Worst of all, once that was confirmed, he may be driven out of the social circle.

No, if Daniel wasn't a man, but a woman, he'd already be a socialite.

But Daniel is safe probably because his godmother is the queen.

"Well, it's not even operational."

He said, slowly walking down the hall to my stride. It was like the spacious hall was meant for the invited guest to wander, as they hung tapestries or paintings to make sure the guests were not bored with their eyes.

To be honest, I have searched Mildred's memory, but I don't know if the painting was still the original or was it already been changed. Daniel stopped in front of a painting and said.

"I was just training a chef to open a restaurant, thinking about introducing food from abroad to this country as well."

"That's the operation, right?"

"I have a separate operator."

Hmm. I glanced at Daniel's face. You can't just say what you want to say around the corner. To my surprise then, Daniel bowed to me and said indolently.

"If you're blindfolded, are you going to lie like a cat?" (CL: It was Aungarigo -아웅이라고- I couldn't find any English word for it so I searched for the meaning. Fortunately, somebody asked for its meaning. It was said to be a cat Korean sound that was related to lying. Daniel might have been asking Mildred about a serious matter. Maybe his situation? Or maybe he was making a corny joke? I'm not really sure.)

That's correct. I stopped to slap him on the shoulder. You can't do this here. No, not ever again.

It's kind of sad to be older. When I first met Daniel, I could have allowed myself to be swept by the flow just by forgetting who he was and Mildred’s age. But now I knew where he was standing and this was Mildred’s brother’s house.

I'll have to be polite.

I said, trying not to show my face as much as possible.

"A little."

"Are you disappointed?"

Why? I asked with a puzzled look.

"This is the second time we've met, and we've talked in less than a few minutes. It was just before you and I got to know each other's names. Why do you think I was disappointed in the Baroness Walford?"

There was a question on Daniel's face. He stared at me and soon spoke with a knowing look.

"You didn't go to the fairy spring, did you?"

I couldn't go because I was out of my mind. Thanks to that ring I still had.

I said jokingly, recalling Daniel's ring that I put in my room jewelry box.

"Yes. I thought it would be better to sell."

At that moment, Daniel burst into laughter. What? Why? What? I knew you'd laugh, but I didn't expect you to laugh so loud. Daniel laughed and his strength went into his body and his forearm I put my hand on was firm.

Oh, my God. I raised my hand slightly on his arms. Somehow it felt bad to touch his muscles.

"I'm sorry, Ma'am."

Daniel stopped laughing and said again, pattering. When we looked around, everyone was looking at us. Wondering what the hell I said that made him laugh.

I flushed lightly and threw a face.

"I didn't know it was such a funny joke."

"Did I not tell you before that it would be difficult to sell?"

"So I asked if it had magic."

Once again, a smile came to Daniel's face. No! I said, pinching his forearm before he burst out laughing.

"It's not funny."

Oops. Daniel's forearm was so firm that my fingers didn't fit in at all. Why is this guy so hard?

When I first met him, I recalled his congratulations to me. It occurred to me that even then his chest was quite hard.

"You're telling me, you haven't sold it yet."

said Daniel, who managed to stop laughing. Yeah, I haven't even tried. I was busy. In that time, I led the children to clean the mansion and organized the greenhouse and garden.

When the house starts to break, it will break down in an instant.

Then I took out all the clothes I had and put them in order. Ashley may not, but Iris and Lily will be invited to other parties once they attend their debut party.

The dresses was not really up to my liking, so I picked out a dress that I could wear and saw what it lacked.

I had to meet Dabina in the spare time to decide on the dress design that was good for the children to wear.

"What would have happened if I had tried to sell it?"

I said a bit aggressively. I don't intend to sell the ring. Neither would Mildred.

Daniel smiled at me, lifting a corner of his lips. I was surprised. Is he married? Did Gary talk about it earlier?

I tried to recall in my head whether Daniel was single or married. I thought I shouldn't let my daughters get close to him.

"No, ma'am."

Daniel’s voice dropped. He spoke very gently and slowly, but it seemed more dangerous, and I felt an urge to take my hand away, but I forced myself to hold it.

I'm older than him and has already married two. I felt like I didn't want to lose to a younger, less experienced child.

"What then?"

I asked, tilting my head. We were still at rest in front of the painting we had stopped earlier. Daniel, who slowly saw people coming this way, said as he shifted his steps again.

"If you had tried to sell the ring, I would have known."

"Is there some magic on the ring?"

Daniel's face smeared with smiles again. Are you having fun? You having fun by yourself? I said reflexively, smashing Daniel's arm.

"Don't laugh again."

"I'm sorry, Mildred."

"Mrs. Barnes."

I quickly pointed out his title. Daniel is not a man who has a connection with me. He is too old to be my children’s spouse, so I shouldn’t be more friendly with him than I need to be.

There were many reasons why Mildred went out of society. The biggest reason was that people didn't like to sympathize with someone who had lost their husbands twice, and the next reason was because Mildred feared that they would take the chance to reach out to her daughters.

Having entered Mildred's body, I can't help but think about the future of my three children. And all I know about this Baron Daniel Walford is that he's a bit of a weird guy.

I was careful not to get too close to him.

He grinned at my point, then lowered his head slightly and said again.

"Madame."

All right. When I put on a satisfied look, I got a smile on Daniel's face. I don't know what this man is all about, smiling so sweetly.

"I didn't mean to make fun of you. I'm sorry if I offended you. I'm just."

"Just?"

Daniel's arm turned behind my back and soon his big hand touched my back. Oh mother. I gasped for breath without even realizing it.

With a strong force, but gentle at the same time. He pushed me to one side. As my body naturally moved towards him, Daniel continued to speak.

"It was fresh that you didn't know anything about me."

"You must be a very famous person, aren't you?"

"Maybe, maybe not."

I'm saying you're famous, I'm not. It then dawned on me that we were headed to Earl Murphy's guest restaurant.

Gary must have told him to go to the restaurant. As a matter of fact, I couldn't hear the voices of others because I was looking to the person next to me.

Again Daniel extended his elbow to me and I put my hand on it. We walked slowly into the dining room.

Mildred was quickly removed from society by marrying Barnes. I forgot that I was no longer invited to parties like this unless my close friend or relatives like Sandra called me.

I looked at Daniel and asked.

"Excuse me, Baron Walford. How long have you been in the society?"

If a man has reached the age of nineteen, he is very well already a socialite. Unless if your stepfather has gone missing or has a pitch-less problem like Iris, it can be a little late.

But Daniel would have made his debut at nineteen because his godmother was the queen.

Daniel looked at me and grinned. Well, this man seems to know that his smile is a weapon. If it's not that, I can't laugh like that whenever I myself was pointed out.

"If you're asking my age, Madame. I'm old enough to escort you."

“It’s enough to make a social debut as an escort, and I can do it if you want to be treated like a twenty-year-old.”

Before I knew it, we arrived at the table. Daniel raised one eyebrow at me and pulled up the chair. And as I sat down on the chair, he said, lightly pushing the chair toward the table.

"If possible, I won't stop you."

He sounded a little teasing. If it's not that, it's funny. Or both. I looked at him sitting next to me and said,

"You shouldn't make fun of your elders."

Anyway, Mildred is thirty-seven. Not younger than Daniel. I picked up the napkin in front of me thinking how old Daniel would be.

On the surface, he looks like he is in his late 20s. However, in the dim memory of Mildred, the story of a man similar to Daniel began to pop into my mind.

After Mildred got married and gave birth to a child, I think I heard that a very handsome man made his debut in society. Of course, what Mildred heard was that he was more handsome than he was.

I don't think there were many cars back then. Not that much means not over ten years of age.

It has nothing to do with a 10-year-old or a year-old gap for Mildred. No, if it makes a difference of less than ten years of age, it is better to stay away. It just means he's  over 10 years older than Iris.

"Madam, if you know how I treat my elders, you'll be very surprised."

Daniel said so, and he picked up the napkin in front of him and spread it out on the thigh of God. My gaze turned to his thigh without knowing.

No, you can't do this. I feel like a dirty uncle. The annoying guys who want to go to karaoke and dance whenever they see a young female employee everywhere in the company.

"Thank you very much for coming."

Soon after, Gary began to bow lightly. The total number of participants was 14 with the exception of Gary and Sandra. Four people, including me, came alone, except ten who came in the same class as the couple.

I compared the face in Mildred's memory with the faces in front of my eyes, and I turned my gaze lightly to the men. To my surprise, I and two others were unmarried. According to Mildred's memory.

That means Daniel is single too.

CL: Well, obviously girl. Why would he make a move with you if he wasn't single. Unless he was a jerk but of course he's not hahahaha.2
