“Theo, Theo. What is this?”

He beckoned me as if he was calling a kitten.

After I approached and peered into the plate, I nodded with satisfaction.

A rather small hamburger steak occupied the main plate.

It was like a perfectly round coin. The vegetables served alongside it were also beautifully cut into decorative shapes.

It looked very tasty, with a well-done grilled surface to it.

“Isn’t it meat?”

“Yes, it is”

“It’s no use giving me meat in order to make me eat carrots and onions too. Good grief, you are hopeless, Theo.”

“Please enjoy the meal.”

Faus, strangely smug with triumph, began the prayer before the start of the meal.

The recipients of the prayer were God and the Saint.

There were rice dishes on the table, but they were not white rice like the other day. Rather, they were flavored rice like fried rice or paella.

This was probably the mainstream.

Even when my father and I ate together, there would be flavored rice.

If the norm was flavored rice, then it was no wonder white rice was perceived as tasteless.

“It’s delicious. What kind of meat is this? It’s soft, yet different than usual.”

Faus’s eyes sparkled as he took mouthful after mouthful of hamburger steak.

Anyone would look happy when they had something delicious to eat.

Faus continued to eat, so I followed his lead.

Yes.

With each bite, I thought it tasted slightly different from what I knew, but overall it was a hamburger steak.

Very delicious.

The spices would be different, and since I was eating hamburger steak for the first time while as Theo, it was no wonder it felt different.

If you looked closely, you could see the red of the finely chopped carrots, but Faus didn’t notice.

“I think it’s minced beef or pork.”

“Minced meat? Is this what it looks like?”

Faus was in a good mood as he gobbled up his portion.

The hamburger steak itself was the kid’s favorite flavor, so it was within expectations.

“No, it’s meat cut into small pieces–”

“…?”

I thought about explaining, but stopped.

Minced meat was originally a way to eat meat scraps.

It was probably not for the mouths of royalty.

At the moment though, I knew that the meat, which could have been made into a steak, had been minced into small pieces.

No wonder Faus was surprised.

“I had the meat minced and formed into a patty. Is it delicious?

“Delicious. I want to eat it every day, tomorrow and the day after! Theo is so good at cooking! I want to eat Theo’s cooking forever!”

I became bashful by the energetic praise that I received back.

Hamburger steaks were a common dish in my previous life and not even something I originally created myself.

It was common practice for mothers around the world to put finely chopped vegetables that their children disliked into hamburger steaks.

I merely replicated it in another world where it didn’t happen to be widely practiced.

I felt guilty about getting highly praised so openly.

“Theo, your cheeks are red.”

“It’s just your imagination! You ate it all, didn’t you, Faus-sama? Well then, I won the game.”

“I did not eat any carrots or onions, though.”

“They were properly in there. I had them chopped up into small, fine pieces. Isn’t that right?”

I exchanged looks with the court ladies who were standing nearby, ready to serve, and they nodded with faces full of smiles since they knew the whole story.

“Yes. At today’s meal, his highness ate both the carrots and onions well.”

“…”

Faus scanned over the court ladies and me.

Although he looked like he was surprised, he didn’t look upset. Just as you’d expect from a prince.

“Head chef…No, you don’t need to call him. I see. I ate both carrots and onions.”

Faus stuck his tongue out, perhaps trying to remember the taste.

“It didn’t taste bitter.”

“I’m glad. Was it a tad unfair of me to hide them?”

“It’s ok, Theo. Theo can do everything very well. It was very delicious.”

His long, jet-black tail swayed.

I pretended to fix my glasses as if to stop them from slipping off and looked down.

Faus innocently smiled at me, looking very happy.

My heart felt very warm.

TN: Translating this chapter really made me hungry. Japanese food in my country is really expensive. I wonder if it is the same in other countries too. Faus and Theo are really adorable. I really wanna go into the novel and pinch their cheeks. Enjoy reading.
