I Reincarnated As A Stone

Chapter 10 - The stone of the jungle

[You have entered a dungeon.]

‘Thank, Helpy, I wouldn’t have noticed if it weren’t for you. The real question is, what dungeon is this?’

[Unknown dungeon.]

‘Perfect… Although it is normal, the entrance was at the bottom of the river. I don’t think anybody has been diving to get here.’

After rolling some time on the bottom, I found a rise and got out of the river. Dense tropical-looking vegetation blocked my vision as soon as I got out. The height of the plants was impressive, and I’m not saying that because I was small. The lowest tree that I could see was over twenty meters. I had just entered a dense jungle.

The sky was clear. Not a single cloud was covering it. However, the sun could not be seen anywhere, which proved that it was a false ceiling. Still, it was so real that one would completely forget that was inside a hole.

‘Don’t look like I would be able to return… Why does everything go wrong?!’

The sound of the waterfall mixed with the distant noises of the animals, probably monsters. A waterfall that came out through the hole that led to the exit… at a height of almost a hundred meters… Was impossible to get out unless I knew how to fly and, even so, the water pressure would prevent me anyway.

‘And curiosity killed the cat. Or in this case, sank the stone…’

But, despite the distant noises, I was unable to appreciate the nearby danger.

‘Standing still won’t help.’

I went deeper into the jungle with all the care in the world. Didn’t take long for the lush trees to hide even the sky. The undergrowth blocked my vision so much that I ended up moving forward without even knowing where I was going.

Tree, bush, tuft of grass… every way looked exactly the same, and I was sick of so much green. However, as I wandered aimlessly, I ended up in a completely different place. Green was replaced for pure white.

‘Shit…’

It was obvious at a first glare what this white zone was, a place covered with the typical silk threats of spiders. And of course, its creator could not be far.

‘Please, not another fuċkɨnġ bug! And least of all a nasty spider!’

‘It’s a shame that luck doesn’t come out as a stat because mine must be negative!’

The sound of something approaching came a moment after being trapped. At the moment I turned to it I should have been a little scared, but all I felt was resignation.

‘And when I think I have seen everything, this world surprises me again. Well, it’s the first floor, it will be a fairly weak enemy.’

[Pigantula: A kind of giant spider. It can generate extremely resistant threads and camouflage within. Despite its large size, it does not possess poison.]

Well, of course it didn’t have poison… What was in front of me was a fuċkin spider the size of an ȧduŀt man, but its biggest feature was… that had the damn face of a pig! And this aside, its level was 20!

‘This is considered a bug or an animal?’

Oiiiiiiink!

No, that doesn’t matter at that moment. That thing was already charging at me with its ugly angry pig face. Pigs jaws are stronger than they look. It wouldn’t take five seconds to break me into little pieces.

I fired a desperate 5 mana cannon bullet, that hit it and took… 1 HP… Even using all my mana on a projectile, I couldn’t kill that monster. Direct combat didn’t seem like an option.

‘I can’t face a level 20 monster… I’m screwed.’

My only survival option was escaping. Easy to say, but difficult to do because of the sticky threads scattered all over the floor.

I didn’t have much time to think either, it was already in front of my face. I needed to think something instantly to avoid imminent death… No, I didn’t need to think, I needed to act.

‘I have nothing more than this!’

Oiiiiiiink!

It worked halfway. I was able to pull the monster away from me and at the same time leaving it slightly dazed, but its HP only dropped by 7. Luckily, I got something better: breaking the threads that tied me and opening a way to retreat from the white area.

‘Bie bie, ugly pig, see you nevermore!’

Oiiiiiiink! Oiiiiiiink! Oiiiiiiink!

But that monster seemed to have been enraged by my attack that almost did nothing and ran after me without hesitation.

‘What the fuċk? Why are you chasing a stone?!’

And to make it more difficult, that monster was faster than me. Luckily, its maneuverability couldn’t be compared to mine. Before it caught me, I made a quick turn and passed under it. This was repeated a few times and in different directions. Still, that bastard did not stop chasing me!

‘I feel like when I was chasing that centipede… only that now I’m the one being chased… Is this karma?’

I checked my status just in case…

And luckily I did. I was in trouble. I had bȧrėly 9 MP left and 50 points in the well.

‘Isn’t Roll going to level up this time? Now I need it urgently!’

I tried to lose that monster within the lush jungle, but no matter what, it never gave up. But when I thought that the arms of death were embracing me, something caught my attention. I just passed a plant with reddish and purple leaves. I had no idea which plant it was, but if I had learned something in my thirty years of life, it was that those colors usually mean poison… usually...

‘But I can’t be sure if it’s poisonous or not… Whatever, I have no choice!’

‘Now, you pig, come at me!’

I got into the middle of the leaves, ready to lure the monster straight to them. I checked my status again, just in case. I had only 12 mana points left in the well and my MP was depleted. Not enough mana remained to try other things, if the plant was harmless or the monster immune to it… was my end.

Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink!

Its red eyes full of fury stared directly at me. Its mouth fell open, drooling. It was unpleasant and made me want to roll again, but I had to hang on!

‘Not yet, not yet, not yet!’

Anxiety made it difficult for me to think. I was worried that fear would ȧssail me at the last moment and spoil everything.

‘Not yet, not yet, not yet...’

Time was slowing down inside my head as I waited for its mouth to approach me. Finally, its attack comes.

‘Now!’

I accelerated and pulled away as fast as I could. It was bȧrėly enough to not die crushed by its jaws.

I was bitten, but somehow I managed to survive, and my plan worked. Along with a small piece of me, the plant also was eaten by the monster. But that wasn’t enough to relax. The effect of the poison would not be instantaneous, if there was… I needed to hold on for at least a few more minutes. This time I couldn’t run anymore.

The monster growled and attacked again. As I had been doing, I avoided it rolling under it. Each time I did, it seemed to get angrier.

Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink! Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink! Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink! Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink!

There was no truce for me. Everytime I regained a single point of mana, it was consumed again and the mana in the well kept going down. I was at the breaking point, using the last drops of the reserve.

‘Do effect now, do effect…’

And the damn plant wasn’t giving any sign of affecting the monster… or so I thought until I noticed that one of its legs was falling.

‘It really works!’

A couple of seconds later, another leg gave out, then another, and finally its whole body seemed to be on the brink of collapse.

Oiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink!

In that last growl I could feel his pain, even stopped chasing me. I also couldn’t move much more, since only 1 of my mana left.

‘Just in time… Finally, luck smiles at me.’

The monster was convulsing, but not seemed to be dying. I was not going to waste the opportunity. I took advantage of the fact that it was completely defenseless and approached. Parasitize was immediately activated.

‘This will take years… but it’s the only skill I can use to attack it.’

It took me so long to kill the monster with the parasitize that it even went up to level 2. The draining speed increased, which helped me a lot to drain the remaining HP of the monster.

That spider pig gave me enough experience to go up two levels at once. But I had to admit, I killed it out of sheer miracle.

‘And this is the first floor of the dungeon… Is this supposed to be an easy monster?’

The only way I had to leave the dungeon seemed to be by finishing it… If I couldn't even kill an easy monster, how was I supposed to kill the difficult ones? I realized that I would spend a lot of time inside that dungeon...
