I, the wizard, the foolish Buddha
#68 - Black Abyss Academy
Roland wasn't sure if the Book of Demons could command the Ballet Ghost. He didn't even dare to try.
To make matters worse, he was now exhausted. He had concentrated all his energy in that dance, almost completely depleting his spirit.
He had just drunk an expensive magic recovery potion, restoring a small portion of his magic, but he was mentally extremely weak and found it difficult to concentrate.
Lilith wasn't weak and had many tricks up her sleeve. In Roland's current state, fighting Lilith would be very unwise.
"Wait, Leona? How... how is that possible?! You... you just sealed Leona?!"
Lilith looked at the apprentice not far away, her face filled with disbelief.
Roland leisurely flipped through the Book of Demons in his hand. He replied, "I don't know what that thing is, but my magic is effective against it. Hmm~~ (turning a page) So that's how it is? Interesting, interesting."
After a pause, Roland looked at Lilith meaningfully: "Do you like to dance?"
Lilith's pupils suddenly contracted, and then her body disappeared from the spot with a whoosh.
At this moment, Roland's whole body was tense, and he frantically searched his surroundings with telepathy, but he couldn't sense anything.
A moment later, Lilith's unwilling roar came from the distant sky: "You brat~~ I'll remember you!~~~ Don't let me catch you again!~~"
Roland suddenly turned his head to look at the air behind him, and sneered: "Hmph, so, you really don't want to leave?"
The air behind him didn't respond for a long time.
After confronting the air for a long time, Roland collapsed to the ground, and it took him a long time to recover.
"That guy is definitely not weaker than Wallace... Fortunately, they are equally timid and afraid of trouble."
Roland collected everything around him, including his companions' puppets, the ogre's statue, and some seemingly valuable junk. Then, he rushed into the forest.
He ran a long way until he was about to pass out, and then hid in a thicket.
After swallowing a Mermaid Fruit, Roland sat down and began to meditate. He didn't know when Lilith would react and come back to kill him, nor did he know if he would encounter any magical creatures.
In his current state, a Rank 1 magical creature could kill him.
About 'a few minutes' later, a rustling sound came from the grass in the distance. Roland opened his eyes and released an electric arc, electrocuting a deer to the ground.
Raising his head, Roland found that the sun in the sky had disappeared, replaced by bright stars and the moon.
He looked at his pocket watch in astonishment and found that six hours had passed.
During the meditation just now, Roland once again experienced the feeling he had during the meditation in the ruins.
Opening the "Ayre's Notes" and looking at it, Roland was shocked to find that his realm had increased from 45% to 58%, and his magic power had also increased a lot.
Roland's face showed an extremely strange expression.
Standing up, Roland carefully took out the Book of Demons and flipped through it for a while.
The book was full of chaotic runes, and they were wriggling like worms.
'It shouldn't suddenly run out, right?'
Roland felt a cold sweat. If the Book of Demons didn't have any restraining ability against the Ballet Ghost, it could theoretically run out.
'This isn't the Book of Demons, it's a time bomb!'
Picking up a wooden stick, Roland started digging on the ground, but stopped after a moment.
'No, burying it here is meaningless! If it wants to find me, it's useless no matter where I run!'
Roland suddenly realized a problem. He couldn't get rid of this trouble at all.
He closed his eyes and thought for a long time, and finally shook his head.
'I can only go to the library to look through books... If it really doesn't work, I'll have to find Wallace and Senior Sister.'
'I have to make up a story... I don't know if they can handle this trouble.'
Sighing, Roland calmed down and carefully took out the statues of Helena and the others.
After checking them, Roland breathed a sigh of relief: 'Thank goodness, they're not damaged.'
The Black Abyss Wizards have been researching various mysterious creatures for a very, very long time.
Lilith seemed to have a way to undo the puppetry. The academy might also have a way, but it would definitely come at a price.
'Hopefully, magic stones can solve this matter... Adam and the others originally didn't have any money, and now it's likely to get worse.'
'I heard that Black Abyss Wizards like to use apprentices for experiments... I hope this matter can be resolved with magic stones.'
All Roland could do was give up some of the spoils. He was in debt and couldn't help at all.
He checked the trash he had collected.
Helena was right. There were indeed some merchants' things in the garbage dump of the abandoned camp.
To Roland's surprise, there were some magic cloths and some broken magic items in the trash. Although most of them were rotten and broken, these scraps could be sold for thirty or forty magic stones.
If everyone hadn't been turned into puppets, they would have jumped up and down with excitement when they saw these scraps. But now, he didn't even know if this money would be enough for treatment.
Roland sighed and said, "This is too difficult."
"Let's go back to the academy first."
Standing up, Roland took out something that looked like a 'compass'. He checked the incantation engraved on the back of the compass, then recited a section of it. Then, the pointer pointed in a certain direction.
This was a magic tool that Roland had just bought today. Its name was 'Wish Compass', and it could follow a wizard's wishes and tell the wizard where to go.
In principle, if a wizard's wish was to find the Fountain of Youth, the compass would also point in a certain direction. As for whether it was accurate, it was hard to say.
Its accuracy followed three principles.
One was whether the wizard's magic power was strong enough. The stronger the wizard, the stronger the sixth sense, and the more accurate the Wish Compass.
Second, it depended on the connection between the wizard's fate line and the Fountain of Youth, or rather, it depended on whether the wizard had the opportunity. The deeper the entanglement of fate between him and the Fountain of Youth, the more accurate the pointer.
Third, it depended on the quality of the Wish Compass. The better the quality, the more accurate it was.
Theoretically speaking, Roland and the others could have used this thing when they were looking for the ogre. But considering that he had never used this thing before, and he didn't know if it was accurate, he was worried about messing up and losing face. So, Roland used the safest tracking spell.
Roland didn't leave a magic mark in the academy and couldn't use tracking spells to locate the academy, so he tried this little gadget.
The Alexandra Arcane Academy was a well-known landmark. Roland used the compass to find the way to the academy, and basically there wouldn't be any problems.
On the way, the Wish Compass didn't always point in one direction, which made Roland think that this broken thing wasn't working.
But after walking for a while, Roland found that he had hardly encountered any monsters along the way, and there were also a lot of herbs he encountered on the road!
It seemed that the Wish Compass not only helped Roland avoid many monsters, but also pointed to some herbs that Roland needed on the road. This made Roland very excited.
"Is something worth 30 magic stones so cost-effective?"
"Maybe I'm just lucky."
These unexpectedly obtained Manhatos Mermaid Grass and other herbs, although they weren't worth much money, made Roland's low mood a lot better.
After walking for another half an hour, Roland came to a main road. After a while, he saw the towering castle in front of him.
Many torches were inserted on both sides of the main road at the back door of the academy castle, and some lantern watchmen were carrying things.
The lantern watchmen were also the academy's school workers.
Most apprentices were unable to advance to become formal wizards after graduation.
Some of them found that they could no longer make progress on the path of wizards and chose to stay in the academy. Those advanced apprentices would become instructors, while intermediate apprentices would become school workers.
Although they were all intermediate apprentices, these people were all graduated seniors. They were not only extremely knowledgeable about various magic spells and creatures, but also had rich combat experience.
Those school workers who worked in logistics and libraries were fine. They focused on clerical work and were better at management than fighting.
But the lantern watchmen were particularly powerful and were all battle-hardened veterans.
Especially in a place like the Black Abyss Academy, those who were willing to stay here as school workers were the kind of guys who had experienced too much killing and couldn't live in peace.
To put it bluntly, this group of people stayed at the Black Abyss Academy not to make a living, but to seek excitement.
When Roland passed by the group of watchmen, several watchmen looked at Roland with indifferent eyes.
Roland quickly lowered his head to avoid eye contact with this group of people.
"Stop! Why do you have the smell of demons on you?"
Roland's heart skipped a beat.
