I, the wizard, the foolish Buddha
#89 - Noble Undead Magic (Part 5)
In the bustling academy, a tall, handsome Black Abyss noble moved through the courtyard, surrounded by crowds, yet feeling utterly out of place.
Occasionally, he would cast curious glances at the frolicking freshmen, but with no intention of joining them.
This young wizard was impeccably dressed, exuding extraordinary charm, but remained silent and aloof, appearing somewhat arrogant.
He was a peak low-level apprentice, on the verge of advancement. Some low-level apprentices who saw him on the road respectfully made way.
Several hot-bodied senior students, seemingly second or third-year bullies, were captivated by his appearance, attire, and cultivation level. They boldly approached with their followers, hoping to strike up a conversation with this cool 'senior'. However, the man merely glanced at them dismissively and walked on.
The bully seniors and their followers dared not be angry? They simply assumed he wasn't interested and left, somewhat disappointed.
The man thought to himself, 'Western girls are really well-developed, and their personalities are so bold and open. Too forward, inviting me to parties right away, making me quite embarrassed.'
Roland asked for directions and went directly to Bernard's office.
Only Professor Bernard was inside the room, so Roland simply closed the door.
Professor Bernard was at his desk, playing with a new antique with a smile. When he saw Roland approaching, he raised his eyebrows involuntarily.
"I heard you've been working as a ranger in the Black Forest recently? You're quite bold. This disgusting aura of necromancy... I hate this kind of thing the most. My former lover was killed by a vile necromancer. Whenever I see those ugly and evil creatures, I think of my poor lover," Bernard sighed.
Roland said, "Sir, you have keen eyes. I have indeed encountered many undead in the Black Forest recently. They are very special and very troublesome."
Bernard's brow furrowed even deeper: "Special undead?"
Roland said, "Yes, there are many ghosts, and you can't catch them all every day. Today, I also encountered a very strange Black Knight. I spent a lot of effort to subdue it, but I don't know how to deal with it."
Before he could finish speaking, Bernard burst into anger: "Damn it! What are you telling me this for? I'm not a necromancer, and I won't buy these evil things from you!"
Roland was stunned. He said, "Sir, I didn't say anything about trading."
"Get out! I advise you to behave yourself! Get out! Only the devils of hell will trade with you!"
Professor Bernard angrily kicked Roland out of the office.
Roland stood blankly at the door for two seconds, then went to find the devil.
The Medusa statue was not placed in front of the office door, indicating that someone was inside. Roland knocked on the door and went in.
Wallace was in the office. After listening to Roland's words, he stroked his beard and pondered for a moment: "That coward is gone. Let me take you to a place."
Wallace tapped his magic wand on the table, and the sound of the statue moving came from the door, followed by an invisible force enveloping the office.
Then, he came to the painting on the wall and spoke a passage in demonic language.
The person in the painting moved aside after listening, and pulled open the curtain behind him, revealing a stone door.
The stone door in the painting was the entrance to the secret room in the office.
Outside this stone door, there was also a Medusa statue.
After Wallace took Roland into the painting, Roland discovered that behind the curtain inside the painting was actually a corridor. It seemed that this was also a castle, but it was even older and darker.
The ends of the corridor on both sides were quiet, obscured by a thin mist, and the sound of a piano could be faintly heard in the distance.
Outside the window, the fog was hazy, and the sounds of laughter and frolicking, as well as the sound of bats flapping their wings, could be faintly heard downstairs. But the sounds were definitely not made by humans.
Wallace answered the Medusa's question and opened the door to enter the room.
The area inside the room was even larger, and the layout was different from the office. It was filled with many things, which looked like materials used for some kind of altar.
In the center of the room was a floor-to-ceiling mirror covered by a curtain.
"Are we going to do some disguise?" Roland said, looking at some of the masks on the ground.
"No need."
Wallace directly pulled open the curtain of the floor-to-ceiling mirror, and then chanted a spell. Then, the scene inside the mirror was gradually covered by mist.
Roland faintly heard the sound of pacing back and forth from the mist.
Wallace smiled and said, "Black Bone, you came fast enough."
The person in the mist said somewhat unhappily, "What do you mean by coming fast? I've been researching magic in my territory recently, and I haven't gone anywhere. Stop talking nonsense, quickly let me see that very strange Black Knight!"
Wallace pretended to be surprised and said, "Huh? How do you know I have a Black Knight?"
He turned to Roland and said, "Did you show it to anyone today?"
Roland didn't say anything. He cursed inwardly, 'You're arguing with a formal wizard, why are you dragging me, a low-level apprentice, into this?'
Black Bone coughed and said, "Ahem, what I meant just now was that I've been looking for strange Black Knights recently... Okay, do you have one, quickly let me see it."
Wallace signaled Roland to throw the thing into the mist. Roland hesitated slightly.
Wallace was very speechless: "Hey, he's Bernard, he comes to the academy to work every day, are you afraid that after the thing is thrown over, he will steal your thing and run away?"
Black Bone interjected in a panic: "What are you talking about? I don't understand, what Bernard, what work? Oh~~ So you are wizards from some academy, and then you thought I was a professor from your academy? Hmph hmph, merchant, you've exposed your identity!"
Wallace rolled his eyes fiercely. He grabbed Roland's wizard hat and threw it into the mist in the mirror.
It was quiet on the other side for a while, and then an unhappy voice came: "Isn't this just a Black Knight of excellent quality? What's so unique about it?"
Wallace said, "Don't be picky. Resources are so scarce now, and there are so many eyes staring in the academy. My little master is already doing you a favor by catching one and selling it to you!"
Black Bone sighed and said, "It's not bad, it's complete, and it has great potential. It's a nice little baby. If you train it well, you can still use it. Let's sell this thing as a low-level apprentice with a third-class aptitude."
Wallace said, "Black Bone, apprentices are materials, how can they be compared with finished products? There are accidents and losses in the production process. Besides, its source is not a problem, so you don't have to worry about trouble if you buy it."
Black Bone said, "Of course I know, so I suggest exchanging it for secret techniques."
Roland was slightly tempted. That's what he came for.
Wallace said, "You guy, so you had this idea in mind. You're trying to pass on your magic in different ways."
Black Bone snorted coldly.
Wallace whispered to Roland, "Master, back in the old Black Abyss Academy, a formal magic would be taught for 10 magic stones. Excellent magic would cost dozens of magic stones. Improved unique magic could be exchanged for credits. But now, necromantic magic has a very high premium. So exchanging magic is not suitable. He has a lot of strange objects in his hands. You can use the Black Knight plus one or two hundred magic stones to exchange for a mid-level strange object to play with."
This proposal also greatly tempted Roland. But Black Bone cursed loudly: "I don't sell strange objects! I only exchange for magic! Those Twilight cultists want to learn my things at several times the price, but I haven't given them the magic. Black Abyss magic can only be taught to Black Abyss apprentices!"
Black Bone handed over a scroll without explanation.
Roland opened it and saw that it was a magic catalog, filled with various necromantic spells. After carefully checking the descriptions of these spells, his eyes moved slightly.
Black Bone sneered: "Hmph hmph, kid, although I am only a first-order wizard, my magic is not something that an apprentice like you can come into contact with. If you miss this opportunity, I may not be in the mood to teach you next time."
Roland looked at the scroll and asked, "Lord Black Bone, what magic can this Black Knight exchange for?"
Black Bone gave Roland a look that said, 'You're a smart kid,' and said, "I allow you to choose one of my masterpieces, an improved formal magic, and an ordinary formal magic. Three in total."
Wallace frowned: "Black Bone, three unwanted necromantic spells are not worth that much money. Times have changed, and necromantic spells are no longer precious."
Black Bone chuckled coldly and said, "Whatever."
At this time, Roland, who had been flipping through the scroll, raised his head: "It's worth it, it's very worth it."
Roland felt that it was almost enough. If he bargained any further, Professor Bernard might leave. Besides, these magics were really worth it, and they could solve a big problem for him!
Black Bone's expression improved a lot. He said, "Hmph hmph, you kid are still sensible."
Roland nodded deeply. There was a magic for making 'magic puppets' on that scroll, which was very interesting.
With this magic and the repaired pocket watch, the ranger's job should be no problem.
Hehe, five updates today.
