I, the wizard, the foolish Buddha
#93 - Yingtao Instructor
The food in the academy's cafeteria was even better than what Baron Hall usually served his guests.
Compared to a cafeteria, it was more like a noble banquet. The wide, long tables were made of high-quality mahogany, and luxurious chandeliers, silver candlesticks, and porcelain were dazzling.
The oil paintings on the walls were magnificent works about the history of wizards, and the colored glass on the huge windows looked like embedded gems.
Admission to the cafeteria required a ticket, which slightly disappointed Roland, who had planned to freeload off Helena.
However, Roland felt that the cafeteria's food prices were too high. If he ate in the cafeteria every day, the food expenses for a month would be nearly one magic stone.
"Who eats in the cafeteria for no reason? Many people live in wizard settlements outside and find their own food," Helena pouted, counting her remaining tickets, reluctant to treat Roland to a meal.
"Wizard settlements?" Roland asked, curious.
"Yeah, a border area mixed with the secular world, where wild wizards often operate. But it's a bit far from the academy. Sometimes, attending a class requires traveling under the stars and carrying a bunch of dry food. But there's no cost of living there, so wizards of non-noble birth live there," Helena said, stuffing something into her mouth with a spoon.
Roland tore off a chicken leg, stuffed it into his mouth, and looked around.
The huge long tables were not full, but there were still many people. However, most of them were wizards from the White Chess faction. These people were not mixed-bloods and mostly came from noble families.
Helena told Roland that the apprentices living in the wizard settlements outside couldn't make it to every class. They spent most of their time each month struggling to make a living.
Their cultivation resources were often very scarce. Completing their studies in seven or eight years and advancing to intermediate apprentices was considered excellent.
If they could become advanced apprentices and study in a mentor's laboratory for a few more years, then they would be very outstanding wizards in terms of knowledge.
However, not many people could advance to advanced apprentices, and if they couldn't advance to become formal wizards by the age of forty, their hope of advancing to become wizards in this lifetime would be very slim.
Many wizards didn't expect to become formal wizards after entering the academy. As long as they could become intermediate or advanced apprentices, they wouldn't have to worry about their lives.
Helena said, "However, if you have connections, you can be assigned to guard a city outside the academy after advancing to an intermediate apprentice. The apprentices of the Black Abyss faction regard this as a good job, but those places are a bit chaotic. Those places are close to dangerous secret realms. People from various academies in the city are there. The living conditions are similar to those in the wizard settlements, and people often die."
She whispered to Roland, "One of my senior sisters told me that when she was there, she often encountered corpses in the alleys, all rotten and unrecognizable, and no one cared."
After the White Chess wizards settled in the academy, the apprentices here became flowers in a greenhouse. Many people had never seen a corpse in their lives.
Roland's appetite was seven or eight times that of Helena's, but they finished eating at about the same speed.
When the two walked out of the cafeteria, Helena's eyes smiled like crescent moons, feeling that the extra tickets she spent today were well worth it.
The silver pocket watch definitely couldn't be repaired today, so Roland followed Helena to the afternoon class.
The huge lecture hall was somewhat like a university classroom. It wasn't just the freshmen of this year who came to attend the class; there were also many senior low-level apprentices.
There were too many types of wizard courses, and the knowledge was very profound. Many people could only master two or three subjects in a year.
So those who wanted to learn more often listened to introductory courses in other subjects in their second or third year after entering the academy.
"Hmph, it's those bad guys again. They're here to take classes with us again," Helena said, looking at a group of low-level apprentices in their late teens sitting at the back of the classroom.
This group of apprentices talked and laughed loudly at the back, and some were rolling cigarettes. Judging from the smell after they were lit, it seemed to be some kind of hallucinogenic herb.
Roland knew their identities without looking at the emblems on their bodies.
90% of those who could do such absurd things in the classroom were White Chess wizard apprentices. The remaining 10% were lackeys who had defected from the Black Abyss. The latter thought they could already mingle with the nobles of the White Chess and were superior, but in reality, they were just dogs who were bullied every day.
Like Helena and the others, they were transfer students who had just come from the White Chess Academy not long ago. However, they were in their second or third year.
When they were at the White Chess Academy before, this group of people liked to bully lower-grade students very much. It was the same after they came here. Because they had some relationship with the Red Skull, no one dared to provoke this group of guys.
This group of guys obviously regarded the Black Abyss Academy as a playground like the White Chess Academy.
Roland glanced at them and lost interest in paying attention to them.
Soon, the lecturer for the public course arrived. She was a beastwoman. It was unknown how old this witch really was, but she looked only twenty-seven or eight years old, very beautiful, or rather, charming, with a pair of big, watery eyes that were captivating.
Roland had been enrolled for a month, and today was the first day he came to attend a public course, and he felt a lot of emotions.
The lady who came to give the lecture today was also very emotional. As Roland's mentor, today was the first time she saw her student.
Miss Yingtao was like a ball of fire. Her figure was very hot, and her beautiful long curly hair was like a red waterfall.
On top of her head were a pair of pointy, furry ears. Whenever someone stared at these fox ears with curious eyes, they would move irritably.
However, what Roland was most curious about was Miss Yingtao's big red tail.
Did she cut a hole in the back of that pure black witch robe with a large slit?
When Miss Yingtao had to turn around to write something on the blackboard, Roland widened his eyes and carefully studied his mentor's tail.
'Huh? Did the mentor's tail clip through the model?!' Roland was shocked.
There was no hole in the butt of the mentor witch's robe, and the tail seemed to be using a wall-penetrating technique, swaying casually behind the skirt.
'Oh, oh, oh, so it's magic!' Roland suddenly realized.
At this moment, a murderous gaze fell on Roland's forehead. Roland felt a chill in his heart and hurriedly lowered his head to pretend to read.
This kid was bold enough. In the entire large lecture hall, he was the only one who dared to stare at the mentor's butt like that. It would be strange if he didn't get punished.
"Stand up and answer my question just now," Mentor Yingtao said, putting one hand on her hip and walking up with cat-like steps.
Roland's heart skipped a beat. Damn it, he had just been distracted.
At this moment, Helena quietly pushed her notes in front of Roland, and Roland got away with it.
Yingtao glared at Helena, then said to Roland, "Come to my office after class."
Afterwards, Miss Yingtao twisted her waist and wagged her tail back to the podium.
Roland breathed a sigh of relief.
"Let's continue talking about the 'Philosopher's Stone' - in 762 AD, the world's first 'Magic Stone' was born. This great alchemical creation combined seven elements and possessed endless magic..."
"Seventy years later, the Sun King made a perfect replica of this magic stone. Since then, the wizards of the Sun Dynasty have created new alchemy methods and created various magic stones of different qualities..."
"Now, the magic stone has become our common currency. Although the Philosopher's Stone is rare, it is no longer the only alchemical wonder."
"...So, magic crystal mines need to be alchemically processed to become magic stones. And top-grade magic stones, high-grade magic stones, medium-grade magic stones, and the low-grade magic stones you commonly use can all be said to be replicas of the Philosopher's Stone."
Miss Yingtao gave two classes today. The first class was the history of wizards, with a lot of common sense content. Roland benefited a lot.
The second class was a temporarily added course, and the content was about Ballet Ghosts.
Even more people came to this class.
Many people began to discuss before class, saying that Miss Yingtao was the person in the entire academy who could restrain Ballet Ghosts the most, without exception.
It is said that the first Ballet Ghost 0001 was captured by Yingtao's grandfather in cooperation with the wizards of the Black Abyss Academy.
If you listen carefully to her class, dealing with Ballet Ghosts will not be a problem.
Most of these people who ran over halfway through the class were from various clubs in the academy. They were all eager to show off their skills and planned to make a big splash.
Roland listened attentively, but as he listened, he showed a strange expression.
The content Miss Yingtao talked about contained a lot of imperceptible misleading content.
If you haven't danced with Ballet Ghosts dozens of times, you definitely won't be able to hear these problems.
Anyone who does what she says will definitely fall into a pit.
After class, Yingtao packed up the teaching materials on the podium, and Roland respectfully came to her.
Yingtao glanced at Roland, turned left out the door, and came to her office.
This formal wizard had a very deep background. Her office was independent and even larger than Wallace's office.
The layout of the room was very elegant. From some of the decorations, it could be seen that the owner of the office was a very tasteful, very picky, and very knowledgeable great wizard noble.
Roland couldn't help but feel awe in his heart. He remembered that Miss Yingtao had an etiquette class. Following this mentor, he should be able to become an elegant nobleman.
With a bang, a red high heel was kicked to the ground and rolled to Roland's feet.
Roland blankly raised his head and looked at his female mentor.
The female mentor in the seat didn't even look at him, crossed her legs, picked up a slender ladies' cigarette holder, and opened her mouth with a curse word.
"Damn it, a bunch of little brats, barely dry behind the ears, and they want to take in the Ballet Ghoul? Are you worthy? Go to hell, you sons of bitches!"
Roland was stunned. Wasn't it said that Miss Yingtao was a very kind and considerate teacher who even discussed meal arrangements with the students?
How could she be like a female gangster when she lost her temper?
Roland felt he had been deceived by his mentor's self-introduction.
After a moment of heavy smoking, Miss Yingtao's complexion improved a lot, and she looked at Roland with a smile: "My dear little grape, your mentor has a favor to ask of you, would you be willing to help?"
Roland: "..."
Yingtao took out something: "A certain lady who doesn't want to talk to you recently said that you have encountered a problem recently and have been targeted by someone. This thing can save your life. She doesn't want people to know that she gave it to you. So she didn't give it to Wallace.
So, I'm handing it over to you.
In addition, there is one more thing I need you to convey to the person who wants to kill you—her previous fussing was useless! Follow the idea we gave her (a whispered exchange)."
Ten minutes later,
At the office door.
"Miss Yingtao, don't worry, I will handle things well."
"Very good, I like little rascals like you who are efficient and decisive~ Better than my students!"
"Mentor... I am also your student."
Yingtao patted her forehead and said angrily, "Come to class these next few days!"
After the conversation, Roland respectfully closed the office door.
Standing in the corridor, Roland's face was strange.
He had an item from Catherine in his pocket to be given to a certain devil who liked to do bad things.
This devil was Lilith.
Catherine and Yingtao believed that Lilith would definitely look for Roland again. So they told Roland to put the item in his bag.
This item was very useful to Lilith. Once Roland was really caught by Lilith, if Roland gave this item to Lilith, Lilith might spare Roland's life.
'Senior sister is actually quite interesting. I have to take care of the patrolling matters properly.'
Shaking his head, Roland headed towards the library.
'Today I have to study the few spells that Bernard (Black Bone) gave me carefully. The silver pocket watch can't be repaired today, so I don't have to go back tonight, going back and forth will cost money.'
Miss Yingtao gave Roland some good things and also gave some promises, but she didn't give any magic stones.
So Roland's current balance is 0.
'There are many places in the academy where people secretly practice black magic, Wallace told me about them, but I don't want to sleep in these disgusting places.'
'Where should I stay tonight?'
Roland had a bit of a headache.
