Chapter 21
One Night at the Inn 21
Calvin.
Including the capital Arus-Han, Calvin is one of the 3 major cities of Illinath, and is famous for having many mages and priests living within the city. It is also structured as an educational city, so 5% of mages have a reputation for staying here. That’s why, the city is always crowded with people who want to learn magic, or people who want to become priests, or people who are confident with their magic and want to become teachers, and even people who are currently working as priests.
The 2 biggest magic schools were called Noblesse School, and Plebeian School. Noblesse was for aristocrats of noble birth, and Plebeian was for normal civilians. The schools were normally one, but with the growing number of students, the schools split into two and began to operate separately. The school which used the most money contained all those of noble birth, while the school that needed the least amount of money was for normal civilians. Of course, there was no difference in the curriculum between the two schools.
There weren’t any issues between the two schools, so there were no complaints regarding the segregation of nobles and civilians. Furthermore, there were some nobles that went to Plebeian, while some civilians with lots of money, went to Noblesse.
And, these two schools held the biggest festivals out of all the magic schools. The scale of the events were always grand, and because there were many things to see, there were plenty of tourists that came to enjoy the events. The city even went as far as advertising the festivals to make profit off it. And, unsurprisingly, when Id and the group arrived to the city, it was during the festival.
“Should we look around a little before we leave?”
Illan, who had plenty of travelling experience, began to elaborate on the city of Calvin to the group. Especially because he was a mage himself, Illan started off with the history of the school, all the way till the festival events. Having been to Calvin twice before, yet never being able to join the festivities, Grey formed a proposal.
“It should be fine. Either way, this place was our goal. Let’s go find an inn first, so we can put away our luggage. Then, we can go visit a temple.”
Illan looked around him with a look of familiarity within his eyes, and by assumption, Hael asked.
“Did you by chance come to this school Illan?”
Illan shook his head.
“No, I learned from my master. Although you’re able to learn the fundamentals here, you won’t be taught any of the higher ranked spells. For higher ranked spells, you either must study on your own, or find yourself a good master to teach you. There are no other ways besides that. There’s so many people gathered here to learn magic, how would they be able to teach all of them high ranked spells. It’s not something that’s easy to learn when it’s being mass taught.”
Although it felt like he had some inferior complex for not having gone to a magic school, Illan’s words were quite persuasive. Nowadays, prestigious mage schools produced mages that were of noble bloodline or from a royal family. Because the majority of them would occupy or stay in school, it has been a long time since any powerful spells were introduced. Also, there was no progress with wind magic that mages were dependent on. Rather, the development of original magic were all coming from outside the magic schools. People who put their lives on the line for magic, were practically living their lives in seclusion, and there were times when noob mages would quit school early, and find their ways toward these extremists. Although it was becoming clearer on the limitations of going to school, the enthusiasm to learn was sky-high.
“Mm, it seems like there’s a decent inn over there. I think they also provide meals.”
Grey discovered the inn. On a blue sign, the words ‘Blue Season’ could be seen. As if on swings, the sign gently swayed.
“Looks like a good place to me.”
This was the second time for Id to be using an inn, so it was still an unfamiliar feeling for him. Grey spoke with concern.
“Will they have any rooms? There are probably a lot of people here, because of the festival.”
A cute girl with red hair was sitting at the counter and was helping the group out.
“Welcome. My name is Lu. Would you like to eat? Or reserve a room?”
Her clear voice gave a feeling of refreshment, and because her words were filled with hospitality, the group felt comfortable as if they had arrived at their own home. With negative thoughts, Hael asked.
“We’re thinking of staying here?”
With a clear voice, a straightforward response was heard.
“Room? Of course we have room, miss priest. You’re just in time, since we only have 2 rooms left that can occupy 3 people each. I think they are waiting here just for you guys. Do you guys want it?”
