I’ll Live My Life Surrounded by Monsters!

How much time has passed since then?

I ‘ve been training all this time since arriving at this forest, so I lost track of how many days it’s been since I arrived.

But I do know that it’s gotten hotter, and it was spring when I first met ojou, so maybe it’s going to be summer soon.

“Ryu, what are you doing?”

Ojou found me and came running towards me.

“Hm? I was just thinking about it almost being summer.”

“Yeah. Summer’s a nice season, lots of delicious prey.”

Food comes first as always, huh.

After I hunted the cockatrice, I was accepted by the wolves who weren’t initially fond of me.

Even ojou’s father accepted my stay, though it was grudgingly.

From then, little by little I was given some advice on hunting and what I should watch out for when running through the forest, and even got to spar with him.

Thanks to that I got a lot better at hunting, and my physique also got sturdier, so I’m really thankful for it.

But there’s also been a problem.

Well personally I really like it, but ojou started to rub her face and body on me often.

Her father, on the other hand, takes it badly and so I get chased around a lot. He often says, “Only I am allowed to be spoiled by my daughter!” and comes at me prepared to seriously kill me, so this actually tends to be the best training.

Another thing to add was that I was surprised by how low the father’s position was.

The grandfather has the most power, followed by his wife, the grandmother, and third is ojou’s wife. The father only comes in at fourth.

That’s why every time I’m chased by his jealousy, it’s a guarantee at this point that the grandmother will come in eventually and step on him to stop him.

This lifestyle was really enjoyable. It was only hunting, training, and sleeping, but it was still a lot more fulfilling than my time working at the ranch.

There’s just one more problem.

My clothes. I was wearing one set of clothes this whole time in the forest, but it’s completely tattered up at this point.

Honestly I’m surprised it even held up this well, but I feel the need to go back to the town once to buy new clothes.

“Yeah, I guess I can’t.”

“What can’t you do?”

“I want to go back to the town quickly to buy clothes.”

“Is the fur from monsters no good?”

“I don’t have the technique to make clothes from them. If I did, I would prefer its sturdiness over regular clothes though.”

“Then you can just bring the fur to the human who makes clothes.”

“That on the other hand costs money.”

“Humans set weird rules upon themselves.”

Well, that’s pretty true.

“I guess I’ll consult your grandfather.”

“Yeah, you’ll need to talk to him anyway.”

While discussing with the grandfather…

“Human town, hm…”

It’s only natural that he contemplates. I mean, there is the risk of an information leak.

“Shouldn’t we disallow it?”

“I also think we should stop him.”

“But It’s an important problem for Ryu. He doesn’t have fur like us after all.”

Said the mother, father, and grandmother respectively.

When I went to discuss it with the grandfather, he thought that it shouldn’t be something he decides on his own, so a sort of family meeting was held.

“Well, it was a problem we were bound to face with those shabby clothes.”

“I agree. He’s basically half naked.”

“Hah, isn’t that how brutes should be dressed!”

The dad gets stepped on by his wife. You should know by now…

“Grandfather, are there no human acquaintances of yours?”

“Mmm, when it comes to humans… hm?”

“Dear, you didn’t have human acquaintances, did you?”

“Ryu, I have one question, but does it have to be a human?”

“M? As long as I can buy clothes, anywhere is fine.”

Why did he ask that?

“Then can I introduce a dwarf?”

A dwarf huh, I’ve heard of them but I’ve never met one.

“What are they like?”

“They’re short but strong and have skillful hands, I’m sure they’ll be able to do it.”

“But I’ve heard that those who have pride as craftsmen can be difficult. It was the case for people at least.”

“Well, he’s indebted to me so he’ll do it as long as you have the materials.”

It makes it a lot easier for me as well if I only need the materials, but which material exactly would be best?

“For the time being let’s see what materials could be good.”

“Wait, father-in-law. He may speak about us if he goes by himself.”

This father…he says things even while being stepped on, huh.

“Then we should have my granddaughter go as well.”

“You’re going to have my daughter go?!”

“It’s about time for her to see the outside world as well.”

So in other words it’s just gonna be me and her.

“With anyone but that man!”

“No, we’ll have her go. That’s fine, right?”

“Yes! I’ll go traveling with Ryu!”

 So cute of her to be swinging her tail back and forth so much. She wanted to travel that much?

“Father, that is a great proposal. Ryu, take care of my daughter.”

“Please take care of her on behalf of me too, Ryu.”

“Yes! Understood!”

“Then I’ll be with Ryu collecting materials for the clothes. Teach my granddaughter that magic in the meantime.”
