I'm in Shrouding the Heavens Practicing Eternal Life
#15 - Arrival on Mars
Inside the bronze coffin.
It was pitch black, filled with a chilling cold. The timid ones were already crying, as being sucked into a coffin was too supernatural.
"How did we fall into the bronze coffin?"
"What do we do? Someone, please save us."
"Call for help."
"It's useless. There's no signal. We can't get through."
"Everyone, listen to me. Don't panic. Such an earth-shattering event is bound to attract rescuers." A classmate named Zhou Yi tried to calm the situation.
"Yes, everyone, don't panic," Luo Mo added.
Because the problem was significant, panicking wouldn't help.
"What exactly is this thing?"
"It looks like an alien's transportation device. There's an ancient saying about offering sacrifices to the heavens on Mount Tai. Maybe the ancients were calling for a ride."
Luo Mo tried to use humor to ease the atmosphere.
The classmates were a mess inside the coffin.
"An alien's transportation device?"
"But none of us summoned it."
"Maybe it's late. After all, celestial units are measured in light-years. Light itself takes many years to travel. Such a transportation device might be delayed by hundreds or thousands of years," Luo Mo continued to spout nonsense.
"Will it still pick anyone up?"
"Maybe aliens have long lifespans," he speculated.
"Wait," Ye Fan suddenly said, "If this is an alien's transportation device, then we—"
Zhou Yi's expression changed, "Could it have autopilot? Will it take us to an alien planet?"
This idea changed everyone's expression, as many had seen science fiction works and associated it with a spaceship.
"Everyone, don't overthink things. You're just scaring yourselves. Alright, let's confirm the number of people here to see if everyone has fallen in, and then wait patiently for rescue."
Wang Ziwu and Zhou Yi, who were relatively well-connected in the class, stepped up to take charge.
"Right, let's count the people first."
Under the faint light of the phones, the headcount began.
"There's someone we don't recognize?"
"Who is it?"
Everyone was as nervous as a startled bird, afraid an alien would pop out. Several phone lights shone over.
The beams of light revealed the extra person.
"Pang Bo?"
"Didn't Pang Bo not come? Who exactly is this person? Could it be an alien?!"
Great, the alien theory had taken root.
Pang Bo, who was lying on the ground, rubbed his head and sat up, explaining, "I was busy, but I heard you guys were coming to Mount Tai, so I made time to come. I took the cable car straight here. I saw you guys and wanted to go over, but I was frozen by that light and hit my head when I fell in."
The others weren't convinced, and they asked him many questions about their university days before finally confirming that he was their classmate.
"There are carvings on the coffin walls."
"Is there any way to control this coffin? Can we open it from the inside?"
"There's a small coffin. Could it be a cockpit inside?"
Alright, the train of thought had been derailed.
"Who dares to open it?"
"Maybe we shouldn't. What if there's danger?"
After experiencing the initial panic and Luo Mo's interruption, everyone began examining the carvings and the small coffin. Suddenly, the bronze coffin shook.
"What's happening?"
"Could it be the people outside are trying to save us?"
Bang!
Another massive tremor shook the bronze coffin, making it tremble like an airplane encountering turbulence.
Boom—
The final massive tremor felt like a comet hitting the Earth. But at this moment, the carvings on the coffin walls emitted a faint light, neutralizing an unimaginable impact.
Light shone in.
"Light! It's open!"
"What?"
"Can we get out now?"
The tremors had caused the coffin lid to open, revealing a gap large enough for people to pass through.
Everyone cheered and scrambled forward, not wanting to stay there for even a second longer.
But the scenery outside was not the familiar Jade Emperor Peak, but a crimson land, cold, desolate, and empty. The light was dim, and a layer of gray mist covered the dreary scene, like a lifeless twilight. Sparse, giant rocks stood on the ground, resembling tombstones.
This was not Earth, but the transfer station, Mars, also known as Yinghuo.
What the hell did they call a surprise?
The only familiar thing was that the bronze coffin was still located on a five-colored altar, the same model as the one on Mount Tai's Jade Emperor Peak, made of giant stones of five different colors.
Luo Mo unhurriedly walked out, scanning the Martian landscape.
"Could this really be an alien's transportation device? Have we really arrived on an alien planet?"
"Look at the sky, look at the moon. This is definitely not Earth!"
One large and one small, two moons could be seen here.
"This planet has two satellites. Is this really not Earth?"
"We... are no longer on Earth."
Panic was spreading.
"Don't panic. There will definitely be a solution."
Seeing the uncontrollable spread of panic, Ye Fan and a few others tried to calm everyone down as much as possible.
Luo Mo climbed onto a giant rock, pointing in one direction and saying, "There's light over there. I'll go take a look. Everyone, don't run around. Try to stay together."
"Luo Mo, don't go. It's better for everyone to stay together," a female classmate said, not wanting everyone to split up.
Luo Mo replied, "I think this place looks like an abandoned station. Has everyone noticed that the five-colored altar on Mount Tai had many jade stones on display? It was after it activated that we came here, but there aren't any here. So, could it be that the jade stones are a kind of ticket or fuel? Let's go look for them. If we can find them, maybe we can activate the five-colored altar."
He was enjoying himself, pretending to be ignorant.
"I'll go with you," Ye Fan stood out.
"Yezi, I'll go with you too," the tall and strong Pang Bo stood out, very persuasive.
Luo Mo jumped down from the giant rock in a few steps, "Let's go, hurry up. I feel like this isn't a good place."
"I think so too. It's better to find a way back as soon as possible."
Zhou Yi and Wang Ziwu also stood out, "I'll go too. More people, more help."
"You two should stay here to comfort everyone. That's better," Luo Mo refused, "To be honest, I don't think we can go back, but everyone needs some hope right now."
Hope?
They turned to look at the panicked and uneasy expressions of the other classmates and felt that Luo Mo was right.
The three who were good at physical labor would go to search, while those who were good at organizing would stay to comfort. This distribution was very reasonable.
"Alright, be careful, come back soon," Zhou Yi and Wang Ziwu agreed.
The three set off, jogging towards the light source.
Soon, the red soil and rocks under their feet turned into rubble. There were actually buildings ahead.
Scattered rocks, broken walls, a ground of rubble. This was a vast ruin, covering a wide area. The foundations were all made of giant stones. One could imagine the magnificence and grandeur of the buildings that once stood here, and the light source was at the end of the ruins.
Pang Bo exclaimed, "There must have been a magnificent palace complex here before!"
Ye Fan was also shocked, "Such a large ruin, there was once a civilization here!"
