I’m Not the Final Boss’ Lover
Chapter 198: Like Fish On The Market
“I want to talk for a moment. Would that be okay?”
“Talk about what?”
Hearing the wariness in my curt voice, Fabian tapped his thick lips with a fingertip in a troubled manner. “Would you believe me if I said… that I have an interest in you, Vice-captain?”
He tilted his head, wearing a slightly clumsy, naïve smile, but I knew this was all a calculated act to win my favor. Fabian possessed looks that could very well be considered the ideal appearance of a Champion. In short, he had a face that made it easy to be liked by men and women of all ages, and he knew how to use this fact well. His attractiveness was a big factor in being able to rise to the level of rivaling the Dark Knights by gathering countless mages, warriors, and priests despite being late to the expedition race.
It seemed Fabian sorely wanted to make a good impression on me as his smile never left his face. Apparently, he didn’t think that I remembered the first playthrough at all. Mayer had seen through me at first sight, yet this one still didn’t know. What a laugh. But it was understandable. No one he met up to this point would have had memories of the first playthrough, after all. Not even his childhood friend. Since Mayer wasn’t the type to let his thoughts show, Fabian must have completely believed that he alone was the chosen human being.
It was irritating to have to humor the man’s pretentious and ridiculous farce, but there was no need to reveal the fact that I did in fact remember the past. I guilelessly replied, “I wonder about that. I’m not the type to believe in the interest of a complete stranger.”
I felt my insides boil at being confronted with Fabian. Not wanting to be face to face with him any longer, I tried to turn away and go my own way again. I thought that my cold reception would stop him from following, if only out of injured pride. But things always had to go off prediction, didn’t they?
Fabian grabbed me and cried, “One moment, please!” Then, as if surprised by his own actions, he released me. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to, but I felt so urgent… I must have been a little excited as it’s so rare to get a chance to talk with you, Vice-captain.”
Excited? It was so obvious that he was pretending after holding me back on purpose. Even though Fabian’s hand was off me now, I felt bug-crawling chills from where he touched me. The disgusting sensation made my face contort despite myself. It felt like my blood was running cold. At that point, I gave up thinking. I couldn’t stand it any longer. It wasn’t like I could hide the truth forever anyway. To stop having to see that filthy mug of Fabian’s, I gave up the resolve to hide that I remembered the first playthrough.
I eyed Fabian with contempt and uttered, “What an incredible difference in treatment from when I was a member of your corps compared to now, Fabian. Even though I’m still the same person from back then.”
He first showed astonishment, then denial, and finally anger. His face twisted to and fro amidst the shift in emotions. In a scathing voice, Fabian spat, “Jun, you… remembered?”
