Kael Cor: A Vampire's Awakening

Chapter 418 - War Discovers

Gus ducked under the wild swing of a demon with flaming horns, watching with an annoyed gaze as it smashed Into the side of the bus he has been trying to protect for the past twenty minutes. Even if it was a hard pill to swallow, Gus had to admit that he hasn't been doing a stellar job. For all of his power he felt extremely helpless in the face of this devourer infested demon invasion. They were stronger than any demon had a right to be, unfeeling, heartless, and driven to bloodlust of a kind He has never seen or experienced before.

Normally anybody infected by the devourer moved with the need and goal to have more people infected, however in this case they were just killing and not converting. It was obvious that something was severely wrong and there was a greater play at stake here, but even with his extensive information network Gus had absolutely no idea what was going on. This invasion was so sudden, there wasn't even a whisper of it anywhere, not in any circle, and definitely not underground. It shook him, it was as if the Dark gods had decided on a plan and decided to carry it out the very same moment they had come to an agreement, but that was impossible, it made absolutely no sense that such u a scenario would play out.

Gus turned at the screams of children as he sent a psychic blasts at the swarm of pug like winged demons harassing the crowd of children behind him. Their screeches of pain was enough to chill even Gus himself who realized that even if you were a part of the one… pain and suffering was still something you could feel, so perhaps there was a hope in saving everyone from the cosmic entity obsessed with ending all life in the seven layer universe. But before that, if that should even be a future that they would be able to live to see, they had to deal with this invasion.

Gus strained his mind and raised a psychic wall over the children, trying his best to ignore the string of dead bodies on the ground, most of them not having lived past their third year. It enraged him, he fell into the shadow real, the world going from bright and colorful to grey, black and white. Like a moth to a flame the monsters within the shadow realm gathered around him, ready to serve and follow the Vampire. Gus couldn't help the smile that graced his features. This was an achievement no other vampire in history could claim to have.

The horrors of the shadow realm, the plane of existence available only to vampires and creatures of deaths, rot and ruin. He had mastered them, made them submit and now they were his power. In every sense of the word Gus had as much power as an Elder, but he had remained a Shadower for the very obvious gains and powers he had gained as a Shadower. And they had grown, and he had grown to. The only thing missing was the authority of an elder, but power? Power was something he had in spades, and so much that his very presence was akin to hell on earth.

The demon had no idea what grabbed a hold of it bellowed as a string of darkness wrapped around it's ankles, it's bellows filling the air as the taint of the devourer around and within it seemed to recoil at the touch of the shadow realm. For a moment it shocked Gus, that was not a reaction his extremely string let emotion had missed… the Devourers taint seemed allergic to energy of the shadow realm, which was ironic as the devourer was supposed to be synonymous with ultimate darkness and nothingness, which was pretty much what the shadow realm was.

More tendrils of darkness filled the air, not just grabbing at the giant demon Gus had been facing, But also all of the pug like demons with wings that had been harassing the school children. It was sudden, especially for the children and other ȧduŀts who had been watching the fight. One moment the monsters were there, then darkness, then nothing, they were gone, the only left behind were the dead bodies and the pulsing portal of red and purple that they had all jumped out of.

Meanwhile in the shadow realm the monster of the dark, the nightmares that hunt the dreams of the waking, or mortals and gods alike ripped into the demons and the essence of the devourer, imbibing it and growing stronger from the corruption. It shocked Gus, but at the same time it gave him hope as his mind ran through a few dozen scenarios. By this point he was already one with the shadow realm, his training with Bob the innkeeper had done more than just teach him how to be the best spy in all of the cosmos. The creature that was bob, eldritch and horrific, yet powerful and fantastic had taught him how to harness the powerful forces of creation, how to become one with them and utilize them to climb the ladder to new heights of power. To give himself to the horrors of the shadow realm and make them a part of himself just as he would be a part of them. And this, this reaction of the Devourers essence to the shadow realm was a way out, perhaps a turning point for this invasion.

Gus retuned back to the waking world, taking a cursory glance at the children huddle In one corner in fear yet with faces clad with relief. He smiled as he used the connection he had with his master to communicate with him.

"The Devourer's essences seems weak against the power of shadows and the shadow realm. I have no idea how this is possible, but I intend to use this to my advantage. I'm going through the portal, we don't have enough information about what we are facing and someone needs to get some, wish me luck master… big brother."

"Gus! Gus don' you dare! Wait for me to get there damnit! Gus!"

But it was too late, Gus had already jumped through the portal while Kael's screams rent the air through their connection.. But the Spy master of Ethernalia Leonis had already jumped through, heading right for the enemy, and destiny.
