I safely received an order for two custom made short swords, but since I’ll also make those from now on, I decided to give priority to the production of wholesale items at Camilo’s place. Of course, Samia will also help me in this.

Though the number for deliveries will somewhat decrease, since I wholesaled quite a number until now, there should be no problem… I think. Besides, Camilo is the one who brought Helen here so he can’t complain. I can secure the minimum limit if I focus and work as much as I can today.

Once that is decided, I finished making and casting the mold, deburring, then I and Rike will do the final touch. During that time, I had Samia do everything from mold creation to deburring, which really saves time. We all works silently. Samia has completely gotten the hang of it, and at this rate, it may not be impossible for her to properly hold the hammer next time. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

Today, we somehow made quite a number of short swords and longswords. Starting tomorrow, let’s commence in creating Helen’s short sword.

At dawn after finishing my morning routine and breakfast, I and Rike move to the workshop. As for Samia, I asked her to collect herbs and fruits. Since there’s not much she can do to help us today…

I stacked a sheet metal for one short sword from the sheet metal we’ve made, heat it in the fire bed, then me and Rike hit it to make it extend. Once it extended to a certain extent, I put a line in the middle using a chisel, fold it in half, heat it again then we hit it to extend it once more. Once it’s about the desired length, the rest is my job. With the combination of cheat and “installed” knowledge, the material turned into homogeneous and hard one when tempered but, in order for it not to be chipped during a fight, I hit it remembering how Helen was wielding it.

When the shape is completed, I wait for it to cool, then hit it again to increase its durability, then clean the surface with a tool such as a file or planer. After that, the iron rod that will become the handle is connected by heating and hitting them so that the contact points do not become brittle. When the blade is heated again on the fire bed, I cooled it rapidly with water to harden it.

I decided to test its durability here at once. I brought the short sword of the general model I made yesterday and swing it down towards the custom-made one I put to a fixed position. Clang! Clear sound echoed and the short sword that I swung down comes to stop, but there is not a single scratch on the custom-made sword. I struck it a few times afterwards, but since I can’t scratch it at all, I concluded that the test result was satisfactory.

“This short sword can’t be added to wholesale anymore.”

I said while inspecting the short sword on my hand. Once I look closely, I can see the nick in the blade. Since this is a general model, the blade being chipped is something to be expected I guess. This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

“If you sharpen or fix it, won’t it be passable as wholesale again?”

Rike stopped her hand hitting the knife and said so, but I shook my head.

“It’s passable quality wise, but it’s against my aesthetics to sell products that are used for things other than trial cutting. Let’s fix it and use it here at home.”

I wouldn’t be able to say that if we are on our wits end though. But fortunately, I still have plenty of money with me and we are not in trouble of any sorts. I don’t want to go against my aesthetics as much as possible.

Rike laughs when she hears me say that.

“Well obviously, boss is a really stubborn craftsman.”

“That’s how it is.”

I smiled and replied so. I’m getting a little closer to what I wanted to do. And I think that’s a pretty good thing.

Now that the tests have been completed, it is time to finish it. After polishing the blade and sharpening it, the finishing touches on the blade side is now completed. I attached the heated and processed guard to the completed blade, wrap the handle with deer leather (the one processed by Samia), engraved the figure of a sitting fat cat on the handle with the chisel and my very first custom-made ordered product is now complete.

“With this, the first one is done.”

I raised the short sword that I made. The blade shines reflecting the flame of the fire bed.

Remembering Helen’s movements, I tried to shake it lightly. It feels much lighter than it looks, but it looks good. Rike, who was watching the situation, was unable to contain herself and, This is translated by Yume Neiji (yumeineijiworks.wordpress.com)

“Can I also hold it?”

So she asked,

“Here”

I handed it over to Rike. Rike who received it looks at every details of the short sword so as not to miss even a single element. She also change the angle and shake it lightly.

“How is it?”

“This is not in a realm reachable by normal…no, even by someone with the talent. I’m sorry if I might touch on the boss’s situation, but I think losing boss will be a big loss for the north.”

“So it’s that much huh.”

“Yes, that’s for certain.”

Rike answers me with a completely serious face. Well, even I don’t think it’s just a normal sword. It’s a sword made with all the techniques to make a knife that cuts logs like a butter, there’s no way it can be normal. This time, I made it focusing on durability, so if it’s used to cut a big rock, it could cut it to some extent (it’s abnormal in the first place), but not in a clean two halves.

However, I understand once I tried to make this sword with cheat and “installed” knowledge. If I feel like it, “I can make one”. But with just ordinary steel, it is necessary to focus on either durability or sharpness. Even if I create it with cheats, the steel won’t be able to endure that much. With that in mind, I think it’s alright to make a custom-made product even if it is made only of steel.

On the contrary, even if I can get the material that can achieve both– the one called Mithril or Orichalcum – I need to carefully think on how to make the best from it. It’s not that a single sword can change anything in the world, but it can still be a sufficient threat if it’s just in a small area. A person’s product became something like a strategic weapon, it is not something that the current me can bear the burden of.

“Is there something wrong? Have I offended you perchance?”

Rike looks at my face with anxiety.

“No, it’s nothing. I just thought of something unrelated. I’m not offended in any way.”

I laughed and stroked Rike’s head, then I composed myself who was about to fall into a slightly scary idea.
