[The Revealed Flag]

‘Jarvis is a girl’—that theory that had been secretly going around among the fan base turned out to be true.

I never imagined that she’d have such a setting… did the author shelve it, or did they plan to reveal it later in the story?

Either way, I had to deal with this matter carefully.

“Barrett? Does your head still hurt?”

Tayte peered at my face and asked as I was wearing a grim expression. I gave her a smile and replied, “Nah, I’m all okay now.”

At the moment, I was resting my head on Tayte’s lap.

It was because I’d hurt my head from head-banging the pillar over and over again earlier.

There was also the promise we’d made in her manor’s garden yesterday.

My wish back then had finally come true—I was happy about it, but unfortunately, I couldn’t enjoy it to my heart’s content considering the big problem ahead of me.

After parting with Tayte, I headed straight to my room.

In order to hear the circumstances from Jarvis, I secretly asked him—or rather, her to come to my room after lights out. I received suspicious looks from my maids because of it, still, I decided to ask them to wait outside the room telling them that I would explain the details later so that I could meet with Jarvis alone. That way would be convenient for her as well, anyway.

…This sort of like I was going to do something questionable without context, but I absolutely had no such intention.

Tayte is everything to me.

The reason I called Jarvis (girl) over was simply to learn about her circumstances.

I had no other intention.

After waiting in the room for a while…

Knock, knock.

Knocks came from the door, and I responded at almost the same time.

“Come in.”

“…Pardon the intrusion.”

Jarvis entered.

Her outfit was… normal.

It appeared like a pajama, pretty casual.

I gestured for Jarvis to sit on the chair opposite mine. Right after she took a seat…

“About earlier—”

“Of course, I have no intention of exposing it.”

…I interrupted as Jarvis was trying to open the conversation. It appeared my simple answer took her by surprise; she had a dumbfounded look on her face.

“I’ll say it again. Your secret—the fact that you are actually a girl—I’ll keep it to myself.”

“W-why…?”

“You don’t want others to know, do you?”

Hearing my words, Jarvis’ big eyes widened further.

Well, no matter how tame I had been these days, knowing how Barrett was before, it was only natural for her to think that I would take advantage of this weakness of hers.

——But I wouldn’t do something like that.

“I will absolutely protect your secret. I swear it on my Holy Sword.”

“Barrett…”

Jarvis bowed her head deeply and said “Thank you,” while sobbing. Once she calmed down, she left the room.

Uh, looked like I wouldn’t be able to hear the details of her circumstances.

Perhaps I should spend some more time digging for her information.

…There was one remaining mystery unsolved.

Why did the original Jarvis let herself be imprisoned?

After (former)Barrett fell from grace, Jarvis should have had a chance to plead innocence.

Yet, Jarvis didn’t even try.

Did she see it as a way to atone for all the wrongs she had committed? Even though she had committed them under threat? That sounded plausible, but I couldn’t help but feel that something was off, still. Knowing Jarvis, who conducted herself smartly at the academy, she should have been able to handle it better.

There was but one possibility left.

A plot twist that was not yet written in the original storyline—a situation still in the author’s mind awaiting to unfold, that once did would trigger further changes in the dynamic of the relationship between Jarvis and Barrett as I knew it.

“…I must be more careful in matters involving Jarvis from now on.”

I leaned myself against the back of the chair and looked up at the ceiling.
