After having lunch for thirty minutes, we set off and continued our journey once more.

We encountered groups of Gray Hounds twice in the afternoon. One group had five monsters while the other had seven, but they were swiftly dealt with just like the ones we encountered in the morning.

At about 4:30 in the afternoon, we finally reached the campsite where we’ll put up for the night. It was a spacious plaza that was situated beside the highway. Still, it was somewhat cramped considering our numbers. But it should be fine if we squeezed the tents together a bit.

A river could be seen 300 meters away from the campsite. That’s why we choose this place to camp out for the night.

We couldn’t bring the carriages and wagons to the river, but we could head there on foot instead.

While everyone else was setting up tents in the plaza, I made three temporary toilets using earth magic just a little below the highway. I made two toilets for the men and one toilet for the women.

I felt it wasn’t wise to reveal all of my capabilities to the baron, so the toilets were made roughly and were of considerably lower quality than my usual work. Well, they would just be used for one night anyway, so I guess there should be no problem.

Just before I completed them, the baron came over with his attendants in tow.

“Alan-dono, what are these, exactly?”

“Oh, well, they’re temporary toilets. I can use earth magic, you see. It’s a pretty convenient magic type.”

“Hou! Earth magic, you say! So things like this are possible with earth magic. How wonderful!”

I gave a simple explanation regarding the toilet’s use to the baron and his attendants, and they seemed to be quite impressed.

“We will be preparing dinner, so please rest up until the meals are ready.”

“Thank you for your consideration. Well then, we shall take you up on your kind offer, Alan-dono.”

We’ve already finished setting up the tables and chairs, so I guess I’ll just have them drink tea while waiting.

After setting up the tents and collecting firewood, Cleria and the others began acting all fidgety. I had a good idea why they were behaving that way, but I acted like I was busy and pretended not to notice.

After a short while, the four ladies finally resolved themselves and walked up to me. After being pushed from behind by Sharon, Selena came forward.

“Um! Alan. About tonight’s, um…… meal ingredients, err…… Right, Ria?”

“Right. We’ve just started our journey, so I think it’s best if we procured ingredients as early as we can. Right, Elna?”

“That’s correct, Ria-sama. We shouldn’t miss the opportunity to procure food ingredients.”

“……Fine, I understand. Let’s go fishing.”

The four ladies squealed in delight and ran back to the carriage to fetch the bags containing our fishing gear.

It seems they found it awkward to ask if they could go out and play while everyone else was hard at work. But the preparations for camping out were just about finished, and it was still bright outside anyway. I guess we can spare an hour or so for fishing. And besides, there’s nothing wrong with procuring additional ingredients.

Even when zooming in from here, I could already see a fairly deep section of the river where we could probably catch a good number of fish.

“Um, Alan-sama?”

It seems Dalshim was wondering what made the four ladies so giddy.

“We’re planning to head to the river for some fishing. Do you wanna come with us too, Dalshim?”

“Fishing, is it? Sure. I shall accompany you.”

I ended up heading to the river with not just the four ladies in tow. About 40 more people came with us. They had finished setting up their tents and didn’t have anything else to do. It looks like all of them were pretty interested in fishing. It looks like Katolle and his companions were among the group as well.

During our trek to the riverside, we tried giving a simple explanation regarding fishing to Dalshim and the others, who seemed unfamiliar with it, but it looks like they didn’t manage to get it in the end. It seems it would be better to show them how it’s done in practice.

Oh, this looks like a nice fishing point. Part of the river was dammed up near the middle. It was also quite wide, spacious, and deep. I checked the water out using scanning magic and got plenty of hits. It looked very promising.

We quickly readied our fishing gear. Since there were only three rods available, it turned into a fishing showdown between Cleria and Elna, Sharon and Selena, and me again.

Cleria and the ladies finished setting up their gear first and began to choose lures from the tackle box.

“Ria-sama. Let us use this artificial bait as our lure.”

“Right. It feels like we can catch a really big fish with this one!”

Elna picked up a fish-shaped lure that was nearly fifteen centimeters long. It was an idea fishing beginners who were just starting out would think of. One might think they could catch big fish with bigger lures. However, what they chose was a lure for saltwater fishes out in the sea. It was too big for river fish.

“We’ll choose this one then.”

Sharon and Selena also chose a lure of the same size.

Fishing isn’t that simple an art, my dear ladies. You should choose your lures depending on the day’s conditions.

The weather was clear today and the temperature was on the higher side. The water temperature should be high as well. Since the fish should be pretty active today, I should choose a lure that’s effective near the water’s surface. That means this one! I chose a glittering lure that was about 8 centimeters long.

Today, I’ll definitely show you guys the difference between a fishing veteran and an amateur.

While I was setting up my lure, Elna cast her line in a familiar manner. Elna slowly winded the reel and coupled it with her rod’s actions to invite fish to bite.

Mm. Those movements no longer resembled an amateur’s. I have to hurry up and equip my lure already.

Before long, I heard winding noises and turned my head. It looks like Elna already had her first bite. What sharp timing!

“It’s here!”

“Did you get a bite already!?”

“”Oooh!””

The peanut gallery started cheering. The rod was bent like a fully drawn bow. It looks like she managed to hook a pretty big fish. To think she’ll get a hit with such a big lure.

Elna calmly reeled in her catch. But she wasn’t forcibly winding it up and relying solely on the tackle.

Instead, she was matching the pulling strength of the fish and applying the appropriate amount of tension!

There’s no mistake! Elna already has an essential understanding of reel fishing.

So this is what people call innate talent huh.

“I got one!”

It looks like Selena got a bite as well. Judging from the strength of the pull, it was also a pretty big catch. Yosh, I’ll begin as well.

I didn’t manage to land one after two throws. But I finally managed to get a bite as I was reeling in the third one. I quickly matched its movements.

“Yosh!”

“You did it, Alan-sama!”

It looks like Katolle was watching me from behind. It looks like I landed a fairly big one as well. I then heard Cleria’s cheers. It looks like she replaced Elna and got a hit as well. Man. They were getting bites at every cast.

I thought I got a pretty big one, but it turned out to be a 45-centimeter trout. Well, it should still be considered a pretty big catch back in my hometown.

But the ladies right next to me were catching salmon-like fishes with an average length of 80 centimeters one after another.

After regaining focus, I made a few more throws and managed to land another hit. But it looks like I caught another trout of the same size. After catching a third trout, I gave in and started using a large lure as well.

It felt quite frustrating, but it looks like my fishing experience and knowledge don’t apply to this planet’s fish species.

After replacing my lure and returning, I noticed that several people, including Katolle, were making faces that seemed to say they wanted to fish as well. It can’t be helped. I guess I’ll give them a turn.

In any case, we’ll have to prepare all the fish we caught later. And I was probably the most qualified person to handle the fishes among the Clan.

“Do you want to try fishing as well, Katolle?”

“Can I!? Yes please!”

The others nearby also approached curiously. Well then, I guess I’ll give them a quick lecture on the basics of fishing.
