Lady Misfortune: Daddy, I'll Be A Righteous Villainess!

Chapter 42 - An Exhilirating Confession

On second thought, Lady would probably need to consider telling Fallon after all.

Even though she's the creator of this world, she's no longer sure how exactly the story will go from here on out. His existence alone might make a huge difference. He should've been dead by this point, but instead, he's right before her now – alive and breathing and pressuring her to confess.

And with him interrogating her in regards to something he should have not been aware of, she finds herself confronting an important issue.

The main reason why she didn't let anyone know that she's aware of the true purpose of the whole attempted assassination was because she didn't want to reveal the truth - one that could lead them to find out about who she really was. She could make up a lie, but if she was just going to do that, she thought it would be better to keep it a secret instead.

'While I did get to keep it from Father and everyone else, there's Fallon who actually wanted an explanation. Now, should I finally lie or what?' Lady contemplated.

But, again, she has to consider. Perhaps, she can at least let one person know.

The consequence of that is, of course, he will have to know everything else – about her reincarnation and transmigration and all that stuff. As a result, he will probably either believe her and even help her out or call her crazy and bust her out. But if she still decides to hide the truth from him, she might lose her friendship with him once he finds out that she's been lying at their faces the whole time.

'So, then, how should I go around this? I already did acknowledge him as my sidekick. That means I trust him, right…?' Lady pondered in silence while Fallon continued to wait for a response.

'Furthermore, because he originally doesn't have a part in the story, he also doesn't have a specific role in the future. That makes him somewhat like an extra. But wouldn't that be kinda improper if he's going to be with me, the villainess, most of the time? If I wanna go up against the heroine, I always have to appear formidable. That being said, he might as well be my official sidekick. It fits him, especially since he's related to the antagonists and he looks like darkness itself.'

With all those thoughts set in place, she finally arrived at her final decision. She's going to tell him everything – right here, right now. Then, she's going to declare him as her right-hand man.

'Perfect, perfect! You're such a genius, Lady!'

She starts to brace herself then, having already made up her mind.

With a serious expression, she took her glass of milk again. She acted as if it was a glass of beer and she was in some kind of an old-west-themed movie, gulping it down dramatically before slamming it back on the table with a loud thud. Then, she smirked smugly – without realizing that she now has a white mustache on her face.

Fallon felt his brow twitch at how extra she could be. He had encountered a lot of weirdos before, but Lady was just really on another level.

"You see, Fallon, I'm not what you think I am," she began.

"Hmm, let me guess. You're a cowgirl alien?" he said dryly, much to her chagrin.

"And here I thought you're an intellectual. You disappoint me, boy."

"Well, you can always correct me. What else can you be other than human, anyway?"

"I'm not from this world."

"See? An alien."

"No, seriously, I'm not from here. I already died. I had a past life. This is my second one."

"Eh?"

Fallon paused for a moment there, not sure how to react. Lady also went silent – at least, for the sake of putting some dramatic effect.

It took a whole minute before he responded with a lifted brow.

"Uh-huh, and I'm Albert Einstein," he deadpanned.

"I'm not lying!" she bolted out.

"Got some proof?"

"What? Do you expect me to have a second life certificate or something?"

"How can I believe you, then?"

"You were asking how I knew about the goal of your kidnapping, right?"

Once more, Fallon has come to a silent still. He thought for sure that Lady would snap out of it if he'd be even the bit least skeptical.

But then, she'd gone and brought up that topic again. That made him want to take her seriously. There's also her this-is-not-a-joke-I-swear expression. Gone is her usual playfulness.

"On the morning before we were abducted, I woke up in this world as Lady Mireille. Don't ask me how and why. I don't know myself. In reality, I was actually a girl who died from a deadly illness…" Lady confessed solemnly, and this time, Fallon was genuinely confounded.

"Hear me out, okay? The reason I knew that Maximilian Mireille would be framed for your assassination, which was supposed to take place but did not, was because I was the one who made it happen. This world was the same world I created in the book I made before I died. We're living in the story that I wrote. So, I know what will happen in the future."

There was a long moment of silence after that.

He was unmoving and speechless all throughout her explanation. It didn't help that she couldn't read his expression at all. She has no idea about what he's thinking right now.

'I've got to say, though - I actually explained it better than I expected. I was certain that I would stutter at some point, but instead, I was able to do it in one go…' she thought, a little taken aback herself.

'What's more, I feel kinda lighter for some reason. Like there's this weight that's been lifted off of my shoulder. Then again, this is the first time I've said all those things out loud, and I'm sort of glad I did. It's… somewhat of a freeing feeling.'

Now, all there's left for Lady to do is to hear Fallon's reply.

He appears to be absorbed in his own train of thoughts. She's relieved that he's actually mulling over it. It would be bad if he just chose to cut her off and say it was nonsensical.

Yet, considering what Lady is planning to do for the next days to come, Fallon will eventually believe all of that, so it does not really matter if it is not right now.

"So, then…" he soon spoke up at last, having already finished processing half of everything.

"You're telling me you're not the real Lady?"

"That's right…" she said then trailed off, baffled by how grave serious he was starting to sound and look.

"Umm, Fallon?"

He went back to being unresponsive again. With his brows furrowed together, he cast down his gaze and put his hands together. He took another moment to contemplate, trying to piece the puzzle.

Somehow, what Lady just confessed could explain the character change that Fallon recently discovered.

If she was not the original owner of that body, it's only understandable that she would behave differently. From someone who rarely ever smiles to someone who smiles every ten seconds – such personalities appear so pale beside each other. Furthermore, it felt not right to regard it as a mere improvement in her character. It wouldn't happen in only a day if it was, after all.

Apart from that, she said that she made this world, which meant that she knew the things that would happen and other certain information such as the reason behind the assassination attempt. Of course, at this moment, he couldn't fully believe everything. But since she technically has the ability to predict the future, he has other ways to see if it's true – perhaps, he can use that to test her out.

Finally coming up with a decision, Fallon looked up again to face Lady.

"You're insane," he then flatly said, expression straight.

"Eh?" she breathed out, surprised.

"You're insane, was what I wanted to say. But I couldn't figure out why you would lie about something like this – at least now, I couldn't. Besides, I've got my ways of seeking more proof. That'd suffice for now."

"Do you believe me or not? Just what is it really?"

"I'm choosing to believe in you. But I don't trust your whole story yet."

Her eyes widened at that. If her ears heard right, he actually used her own words on her.

Letting out a breath she didn't realize she's holding, she fell silent again and stared at him. He remained quiet as well, choosing to regard her in contemplation for a little bit longer.

That's until one of the maids entered the lounge, simultaneously ending their conversation by announcing, "Excuse me, Young Master and Young Miss, your fathers are calling for you."

"Right. We're coming…" Fallon replied and stood up from his seat before turning back to Lady and giving her a teasing smirk.

"Nice mustache, by the way.. You ought to let Dad and Uncle see it too."
