Lady Misfortune: Daddy, I'll Be A Righteous Villainess!

Chapter 61 - The Mysterious Snobby Rich Boy

It's not usual for Fallon to not recognize someone from Golden Rose Academy.

It was not that he knew literally everyone in school. However, he was able to memorize all the names and faces of those in their batch. Going by the outfit that snobby-rich-boy is wearing, he appears to be in middle school just like him. That means he should have at least found him familiar-looking.

In this particular grade level, male students wear a white long-sleeved polo under a black school jacket with golden embellishments and ornate designs. Matching those is a pair of white pants and a checkered necktie. It also has the academy's golden rose logo on the chest pocket. The same style goes for female students. Only difference is that they wear a thigh-lengthened skirt.

This stranger is clearly wearing their school uniform. Yet, even when Fallon looked closely, he could not recognize him at all.

He watched snobby-rich-boy turn his head to smile and say something to the driver. That was when he heard Belle pull Lady closer to whisper something to her. He decided to listen in, somewhat intrigued.

"I heard some people in my club talk about him," she told her quietly.

"Oh, right, you're in the broadcasting club," she recalled out loud, not at all surprised that she would have the scoop.

"Yeah. So, anyway, he's new, and he's supposed to be very smart. Lots of girls are taken by him. He's our age, too! Maybe he's in any of your classes?"

Belle looks at her intently. Contemplating, Lady regards the mysterious boy.

She sees him close the car door so gently she doubts he actually closed it.

"I think so. I mean, I may have seen him during the opening ceremony. But it's only been a day. We're not sure about anything yet," Lady said with a laugh.

"Well, yeah. I'm just curious," Belle giggled.

"I'll see if I can be friends with him. I know it's not easy to be a new kid."

"You really can't stand it when someone's not fitting in, huh?"

"It's too early to say that he isn't fitting in, though."

"You're right. Besides, he's quite the eye candy. I bet he'll be popular in no time."

Fallon catches snobby-rich-boy glancing in their direction when Lady laughs.

He nudges her by the elbow. She looks at him before she follows his line of vision.

Purple eyes meet blue.

He looks kind of astonished. She, on the other hand, just grins and waves.

"Hello!" Lady greeted cheerfully.

His eyes widen for a moment. Then, they soften, catching her off guard for a bit. He offers her a wave in return, looking a little sheepish. With that, he turns around and enters the school.

"Well, he seems nice…" she commented, her grin still in place.

"Is he in any of your classes, Fallon?"

"Eh. Haven't seen him around…" he replied with a shrug.

"Maybe he's in yours."

Right then, the school bell rings, and with that, the four of them rush inside.

---

Lady regrets walking alongside Fallon, Hartigan, and Belle.

She completely forgot what she just thought earlier – that these three would top the academy's popularity poll for this year too. Everyone they passed by would turn their heads and watch them stride. Their features are just too attention-catching. Some would even talk among themselves while others would stare and stare.

Lady should really be used to it by now, though.

'It's not like I feel left out. It's just kinda uncomfortable,' she thought.

Right when she expected that the same old scenes would go down from this point on, she suddenly caught sight of the boy from earlier. She did so the moment she entered the classroom. Pleasantly surprised, she beams. She wonders why she has not noticed him sooner. He looks bewildered – even more so when she waves at him once more. She takes the seat next to him.

"Hello again! I'm Lady…!" she introduced herself, smiling brightly.

"What's your name?"

Then, Lady stilled.

For some reason, an odd sense of familiarity surged through her out of nowhere – a rush of deja vu. She felt like she saw him before, but she can't recall when and where. Rummaging through her memories didn't help. All she has is this very strange feeling. Now, she's so conflicted she's speechless.

He seemed to have noticed the state she's in but simply kept quiet. Then, he gave her a smile of his own, his voice soft but sure.

"My name's Weiss. A pleasure to meet you, Lady."

---

Homeroom began soon enough.

She has not talked with Weiss much. His name was the only thing that Lady managed to learn. Their class adviser, Ms. Mirabella, came barging inside the classroom after he introduced himself, so she was forced to pay attention.

She is definitely interesting, to say the least. She has tan skin, short, curly black hair, thick eyebrows, a couple of hazel brown eyes, and some freckles on her nose and cheeks. Also, she wears a pair of round-framed glasses and a white dress with colorful butterfly stitching on it. She appears to like dancing and doing monologues as well.

Her introduction was so flamboyant and animated that it easily stole everybody's attention. It's such a shame that Fallon was assigned to a different class along with Belle and Hartigan. Because of that, she didn't have anyone there to share looks with.

"Remember that your seats are now permanent!" announced Ms. Mirabella.

"Make sure you're all comfortable. Be thankful you had the freedom to choose."

Lady grins at that and chances a glance at Weiss.

He's watching their homeroom teacher with an unreadable expression on his face. If he's going to be her permanent seatmate, then she'll have to get to know him better. Perhaps, she can introduce him to her cousin and friends today. She can even invite him for lunch later.

And just like that, her thoughts wandered off. That was until Ms. Mirabella started performing the standard roll call. Interestingly, she has stopped at his name.

"Saoirse…" she said then trailed off quickly, squinting at the class list.

"I mean, Mr. Weiss."

Lady noticed how she drawled out the name. She then took a look at Weiss who responded to the call. Ms. Mirabella narrowed her eyes at him.

"Why weren't you with us during the school tour yesterday, Mr. Weiss?"

He flashed her what seemed like a professional smile. Then, quite simply, he answered, "I had to leave early. There's a family matter to attend to."

Ms. Mirabella walked up to his desk before leaning forward and showing him a maniacal expression. Weiss was not at all fazed, though. Lady, on the other hand, was a little bit intimidated even though she was not the one being looked at.

"I hope you don't have any more absences, Mr. Weiss," she told him.

She then turned back around with a weird little huff. When she made an attempt to pirouette, she ended up bumping harshly into a desk. She nearly squished the poor student who was sitting there.

Lady reached out to help her classmate while Weiss let out an amused snort. Ms. Mirabella spun around and shot him a glare but ultimately decided to just continue on with the roll call as if nothing in particular happened.

Lady frowns at the thought.

With the way those two are behaving now, it definitely seems like she merely dreamed the whole encounter. She is quite sure she hasn't – her mind is not graphic enough to imagine that peculiar expression on their homeroom teacher. Maybe they know each other, she wonders. Perhaps, their class adviser has some sort of grudge on him. She recognized his name, after all.

Lady thinks of something. She quietly looks around in her bag for a scrap of paper, and once she finds one, she quickly scribbles down a note. Ms. Mirabella, busy with whatever she is on about, fails to notice her pass that piece of paper to Weiss by slipping it onto his desk.

She has to give him some points for not even looking surprised.

He unfolds her note, and much to her delight, he scribbles down a reply. She thinks she sees a faint shade of pink spread across his cheeks, but he is already passing the paper back to her before she can dwell too much on it.

Apparently, Lady has written that Weiss is such a pretty name.

'Not as pretty as you,' was what he had written back, taking her aback.

Lady can feel herself blushing a little. It seems that Weiss is a smooth talker.

She wrote back, 'Thanks! You're pretty yourself. Ms. Mirabella talks a lot, huh? Do you think homeroom will ever end?'

Once done, she slipped back the note to him – right at the same time their homeroom teacher said something about Shakespeare's wretched genius. "All the world is a stage, my children!" she said quite gleefully before continuing, "Shakespeare was on the stage too! He was in the spotlight – but not to fret! The spotlight can be stolen!"

Weiss passes the note back.
