Lady Misfortune: Daddy, I'll Be A Righteous Villainess!

Chapter 94 - A Date That's Not A Date

Lady thinks that what Belle just said is too much.

Not everything revolves around feelings – sometimes, it's just got to do with the kind of character a person has. Weiss is a really good guy. He's the type who won't hesitate to offer a helping hand. And also, there's Glenn, who apparently had some other motive. She can still clearly recall his last words back at the stage.

'Speaking of which, I may have finally pieced it together…' Lady thought begrudgingly, wincing at the realization and earning a curious look from Belle.

'Turns out that Glenn is like the third or fourth male lead - and the one he's really into was Sarah who's with Orion at the moment.'

When she met him earlier, she knew there's something about him. She just couldn't tell right away because he's only a minor character in the story – one who didn't even have much screen time despite being one of the male leads.

'Just why did I make the story a reverse harem again?'

Now, she keeps finds herself in a situation with a jerk of a character. In their defense, though, they're not yet developed at this point of the story. There is still a lot of main events that haven't taken place. Even then, she probably should've thought better than creating characters that are not necessary to the plot.

'And erase them from existence? Okay. Maybe that's not good.'

'Oh, dear. She's lost in her own world again.'

Belle sighs helplessly as Lady begins to drift off to space. She looks at the other side of the table, deciding to check on the boys in the meantime. Hartigan seems to be forcing out a smile as Weiss talks with him and Fallon. She feels kind of bad – this is her idea, after all, which she decided to see through while thinking he would win.

When they start wrapping up their conversation, she pulls her friend out of her daze and tells her to get ready for her date.

"R-Right. W-We need to go now."

"Just relax. Nothing's gonna happen to you."

Weiss turned away from Fallon and Hartigan to join Lady again.

He sees her shyly glancing up at him through her lashes while nervously clutching the strap of her purse in her hand. The small blush that's lighting up her cheeks is worth noting. She's so adorable – it isn't fair.

"Do you want to head out to the table now…?" Lady inquired.

"It's alright if you don't want to, of course! You don't have to do anything! We can stay right here! No problem!"

He didn't want to stay. He just paid all those dollars for a date with her. He, at least, wants to spend some more alone time with her before the night ends.

"No, I think we should go…" Weiss replied, flashing Lady a charming smile.

"I won you, and I want to be alone with you."

He mentally cringed at the flirtatious line that slipped out of his mouth. It might have sounded too demanding – like he had some sort of authority over her.

'It wasn't meant like that! Great. Now, she thinks I'm one controlling jerk.'

But then, Lady just blinked – innocently. Weiss blushes.

"L-Let's just head over there," he stammered, holding out his arm for her to take – he didn't think she would, but he offered anyway for propriety's sake.

To his surprise, she took his arm and let him lead her away to the back of the hall – where several table-for-two's were set up. Some of the couples were already there. More would come soon by the end of the date auction.

The two sat down, awkwardly staring at anything other than each other.

Both of them tried to find something to say. Yet, the only thing on either of their minds was the date auction and the startling cost it took to win her.

At last, Weiss cleared his throat, preparing to initiate an exchange – but only to find that Lady had opened her mouth too.

"No, you go," they blurted out in complete sync.

He's a gentleman, though, and he'd always let the lady speak first. Besides, he would honestly love to hear her talk for the rest of the night if he could. She's got a cute voice.

"No, you, I insist," Weiss tried again yet found Lady echoing the same words.

They paused – as if just realizing now how awkward this all was. Then, they burst out laughing.

After calming down, Weiss cleared his throat to try once more.

"Seriously, what were you going to say, Lady?"

Her lips stretched into a warm smile. Finally, she relented and said, "I was just going to say thank you for being with me tonight. Not only did you prepare a surprise for me, but you also spent quite a lot of money on me. You didn't have to, but since you already did, all I could do is thank you."

"You're more than welcome. As for me, I just wanted to say that I'm glad you came with me tonight. It feels really nice to hang out with you."

"I think so too!"

She titters, and he smiles. He's too focused on her eyes the whole time that he hasn't realized he's spacing out. She's just really mesmerizing to watch.

"Weiss?" she called in confusion, noticing the far-away look in his half-lidded gaze.

He blinked, her voice bringing him back to the real world, and said, "Yes, Lady?"

"O-Oh, ummm… Nothing. F-Forget it."

A frown tugged down the edges of his lips. This is going nowhere. He genuinely wants to sweep her off her feet tonight, and yet, here they are talking like casual friends – as always. Maybe it's time to push a little bit, let her know he's interested in something more without sounding like a pretentious douchebag.

"Have I already told you how beautiful you look tonight?" he began.

"Uhhh... Yeah. You aalready did. Still, thank you," she giggled.

"You're welcome, my lady."

Now, that's not part of the plan. It's a mistake.

There's no way he's bold enough to call her that in such an intimate setting.

Her eyes widened just like his and stayed that way for a few tense seconds. Neither of them spoke. He's afraid of saying something that'll doom him further while she's still processing what she'd just been called – his lady.

"Ummm… That's new," she commented.

To his amazement, it looked like she just completely brushed off his attempt to flirt and thought nothing of it. He didn't know whether to slap his forehead at her obliviousness or thank his lucky stars. So far, he was sort of in-between.

"Can I ask you something?" she asked, her voice timid and slightly shaky.

Weiss instantly felt bad that she's beginning to feel nervous around him. He wanted to comfort Lady – assure her that she could ask him anything.

And so he did. Kind of.

"Yes, of course, you can ask me anything," he casually confided with her.

He had wanted to say that in a more serious tone – make it a little more romantic. But he didn't really think that now's the best time for it.

She was quiet for a few moments. Her hands clasped together, fingers fiddling with each other. Pink dusts his cheeks as he lowers his gaze to the table. Finally, she heaved out a sigh and dared to meet his expectant gaze.

"Why did you spend thirty thousand dollars just for an evening with me?"

There comes the million dollar question. And now, he wonders how he will be able to answer it without sounding like a pathetic, lovestruck jealous fool.

'Maybe it's finally time to come out with it? I mean, she must've noticed by now.'

However, that doesn't mean Lady shares the same feeling. At this point, that's the only thing that's keeping Weiss from confessing.

But he's willing to take the risk. He always has.

"The truth is, Lady…" he said then trailed off, his eyes flickering to her hands.

He hesitated for a bit but still pushed through, reaching across the table to entwine his fingers with hers. Her eyes went down at their joined hands then snapped back up to his hesitant gaze. She had her mouth partially open, her eyes blown wide, but she didn't push him away. That seemed to be a good sign.

And so, Weiss went on.

"The truth is, I... Well, I like-"

"Oh, cool place you got here."

They jolted.

Both then whipped their heads around to see Fallon approaching their table. Weiss frowns – of course, he'd ruin the moment again. Lady, on the other hand, has brightened up in delight at his entrance.

"Oh, hey! Miss us already?" she teased, not at all bothered by the interruption.

"Just checking. You may have him as your escort, but I'm still your chaperone for tonight. Uncle's order," he informed them, much to other boy's chagrin.

"I don't think you're allowed in here, though."

"Yeah, right. I get to do what I want. Besides, we still have to talk about something important. You said so earlier."

And with that, Fallon yanked out a nearby chair and settled down, completely tossing Weiss's chance to confess out of the window.
