Last Man On Earth When There Is No Earth ?

Chapter 21 - five: moving on part one

Iris's grave, Seven

Several days had passed since then.

I started accompanying Lilia in the morning, picking fruits then visiting Iris before we return.

Remember the papaya fruit? The one that looks like a hybrid between a watermelon and an apple. contrary to my expectation, that one grew on trees like apples rather than the ground like watermelon.

the height those trees could reach doesn't cease to amaze me, but Lilia who could easily climb them all the way to the top was amazing too.

One of the things I couldn't wrap my head around is the technique she used that made her p.a.n.t.i.e.s showing an impossible thing, even with the short one piece dress she is wearing -which is elegant and extremely cute- and how high she reached I wasn't able to get one glance at it.

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm deliberately going out of my way to look at them, but after acting like a true gentleman and averting my sight so many times I was beaten by my dark side and took a quick peek, and that was when I noticed it. of course this isn't something I can just blindly ask Lilia about.

" maybe you could tell me something about this? "

Talking to a grave is one thing, but asking those unethical questions is crossing a line. It took us five whole days to get over the awkwardness of that night, and things are returning to normal, But I'm still unable to understand what happened at that time.

First I heard a voice, then saw its owner. The way I realized I was talking to a ghost a day after it possessed my body is proof that I'm missing my sanity.

' I will give you a little push' was what she said, put what part of that did she think was little? I can still feel Lilia's frail body in my arms.

" com'on Iris, if you are here then give me a sign" I need that push one more time.

And like you would expect, there was no answer.

After that night Lilia seemed to be on guard more than usual, keeping her distance and rarely getting close.

I'm not so dense as to not understand that she is being conscious about me, but I couldn't gather the courage to approach her again.

Uuugh… I'm such a coward. We are alone on a uninhabited planet, things should be happening right? Like that, and that, and also that. I'm limiting my imagination to keep the effects at bay, but even so there were times I couldn't handle it any longer and had to 'unload' before I lose control. I remember hearing that keeping it in isn't good for your health.

But that isn't enough at all. I'm spending night after night laying on a bed a few meters away from an extraordinarily attractive girl, even more so after sleeping next to each other that time I was looking forward to it happening again and couldn't really sleep.

And that's where what we have been doing for the past few days comes in hand. similar to the other day, Lilia was helping me practice, and by helping I mean seriously tying to dismember me with her knife spear thing every day until dinner time, thanks to that I always end up too tired to consider where I fell asleep.

Lilia doesn't know how to hold back, but it wasn't that long before I learned how to read her movements and dodging became easier.

She also taught me how to climb trees, and not long after I learned the wall jumping technique where I climb up by jumping between two trees. See that? I think it's possible for me to become a real ninja. next is the shadow clone technique.

When I slowly became able to keep up with her moves we decided to resume the ruin exploration. The first thing we did was return to the armory on Lilia's suggestion, there she forced me to pick up a gun from the variety available there and ordered me to keep supporting her from a distance.

In the direction opposite to the armory and the room where the colossus was we found another set of stairs. When we descended them we were able to see a light down the hallway, we found the main entrance.

The gate that was fifteen meter in height and twenty five in length was completely destroyed. some animals had sneaked in and made themselves at home, that told us the force field keeping them out isn't effective from this point on.

Speaking of the animals that made their nests inside, there was one really similar to rabbits. a potential source of the long awaited meat was discovered.

There wasn't much to be found neither inside nor outside. There were no crafts of any kind on that floor even though it seemed like you could fit ten airplanes in that space. we also couldn't find any sort of equipment that could help with repairing Lilia's ship.

Hope wasn't lost as we managed to find another way leading deeper underground. That's when I finally met one of the things Lilia mentioned multiple times before, the night crawlers.

They are your typical eight legged giant spiders, only creepier. I shot the first one we faced like a maniac, then went and destroyed all the eggs inside that room. Giant spiders were a generic enemy in MMOs but I have yet to play one with this amount of details. They made me scream hysterically like a frightened little girl, and I got laughed at by my blond companion.

She wasn't scared of the things, saying their size made them easier targets than normal bugs. I killed two, while she didn't have much trouble splitting about eleven of them with her spear knife thing.

No no no no, I can never get close and punch those things using the bracer gauntlets. Those things are way too creepy, and I don't remember having entomophobia.

Additionally, they didn't seem to end. Lilia explained that they like the dark, and that place was the best for them to lay their eggs.

After fighting restlessly for some time we were forced to run away because of the difference in numbers.

Advancing forward would require the complete eradication of those things together with their green and slimy eggs.
