Chapter 445

"She wanted a what?" Xu Jihan asked when one of his spies reported about the bidding. "A bidding?"

"Totally expected." Xu Ke uttered. He was looking at the tube-like structure on the first floor of his laboratory. It was made of glass and a small animal was swimming inside the tube. It had the head of a crocodile from this world with a body of a snake. As it swam, the snake-like animal would turn around and start eating its tail until he would eat half of its body. Then it would start growing again.

The moment it would reach forty centimeters, it would start eating its tail and it would be a never-ending process.

Xu Ke watched with interest. Right now, his concern was how to keep the animal alive without eating its own flesh. "Change the composition of the water." Xu Ke said.

"What are we going to add this time, sir?"

Xu Ke frowned at the question. They already tried everything to keep the creature alive. They have changed the temperature, used seawater and water from rivers and lakes. Still, the creature would eat itself. Someone suggested that they check the body of the creature but every time they try to capture it, the creature would attack them by dividing itself into small strands. It would become too thin and swift that it would become like a knife. It could cut off one's fingers easily if one weren't careful enough.

"Add something! I don't know! Sodium, gold, silver, or any other element that we have." He said. He knew that this blind experimentation would be useless without knowing the composition of the animal's body. Once again, his experiment failed. After about eight hours, the animal would once again die and he would use every gold that he had to summon the creature again!

"Jihan, do we have any news about the gold mines? You said that two of our mines were affected by the landslide up south? What are we doing about it?"

"Well… there are some people alive inside the mine. We can't just use explosives to clear out the rocks and soil."

"Do it." Xu Ke said.

"For some reason, I knew you would say that." Xu Jihan smirked. "Let me take care of that."

"Make sure to keep it a secret."

Xu Jihan laughed. "Of course. No one would know about their whole family's demise." As someone who is used to killing people that would slow their plan, Xu Jihan was very efficient in keeping the families of the people that they killed, quiet.

Xu Ke nodded and continued staring at the animal. This is why he would need Lyca's expertise. His knowledge of poisonous creatures like this is just… lacking. As someone who used poison in that world, Lyca's expertise is needed to complete his task.

"Sir, the creature seemed to hate the gold powder that we added. It started moving around like…"

"Bang!"

The loud sound of the creature that was only a foot long interrupted the conversation.

"Bang!"

Another sound echoed as it attempted to break the reinforced glass.

"It's gone wild! It's wild!"

Xu Ke only frowned. "Get away from it!" he immediately instructed. However, just as he finished speaking, the animal suddenly exploded. Almost immediately, the water turned green, bubbles started appearing on top of the water.

Xi Jihan who was watching everything felt as if goosebumps started crawling inside him. "What's going on?"

Xu Ke squinted as he stared at the tube. Then he walked towards the control device next to him. After pressing a button, another reinforced glass suddenly moved down. It acted as a cage to the tube and the now bubbling water. "Don't approach it. Wait for eight hours before the toxins would disappear. Everyone who inhaled the air should go and have themselves tested for toxins."

The men working for him nodded, their faces paling. Dying in the middle of these experiments was already normal for them. However, the thought of experiencing the immense pain before dying because of the poison is still scaring them.

Xu Ke calmly stared at the green liquid. He wanted to ask his people to try and get samples of the liquid, but there was nothing on earth that could block the toxins in that green liquid. A sharp sigh escaped his lips.

"What a nerd."

He heard Xu Jihan mumbled as he followed Xu Ke out of the lab. "These experiments are dangerous. Why do you insist on studying these weird animals that you found somewhere?" As usual, Xu Ke didn't say anything. He continued walking, his face dark, hands shoved in his pockets. "Oh! By the way… about that bidding."

"I told you. I want to get that armor." Xu Ke said. He suspected that the armor that Lyca created could actually protect his people from the toxins. This would give him a tremendous breakthrough from his experiments. Also… the poison that I give Huang Qingyun and the others… any news if they were able to cure the patient?"

"Nope. No news. They are still unconscious. However, I can't be sure about Lyca's grandfather. Our men weren't able to find him. Maybe he was already with Lyca? The security in her underground house was pretty tight and dangerous."

Xu Ke nodded. As expected, this world is weaker than his previous world. That poison was dangerous in his previous world, but there are still ways to help someone who took it. Of course, it would involve magic — something that does not exist in this world.

When he came here, he actually thought that this world was pretty awesome because of technology. Of course, he now knew that it was pretty lacking compared to that magical world. However, now that he knew about Lyca, Xu Ke felt that he found hope. If Lyca would know about the ingredients of the poison then… that would mean she would be able to cure it… right? Meaning… every time he summoned something, his men wouldn't have to worry about the poison in the air during the summoning, right?
