"You have a son? How- how old is he?" Han Lili asks feeling extremely disappointed.

"He's three."

"A full toddler! That means you had him when you were young." This time, it was Liu Yumei who exclaimed. Su Lian does not even seem to be as old as Lili and Lili is twenty-five. For her to have a son who is three-years-old, it means that she would have given birth around the age of nineteen or twenty. Such a tender age to be a mother.

She was practically still a baby when she had her own baby.

"Yes, I was really young, but it's alright. I honestly can't imagine how my life would be without him. He is everything to me."

Liu Yumei felt moved. As a mother herself, she could understand how much having a child could change a person. From the look in Su Lian's eyes when talking about her son, she could tell that she loved and cared for him deeply.

'If only a woman like this could raise her grandchild.' She thought to herself. Too bad, they found her too late. "Your child and husband are very lucky to have you."

"I don't have a husband, I'm not married." Su Lian stays silent for a while before continuing. "The relationship I had with my son's father didn't work out so he isn't a part of our lives."

"You-you're a single mother?" Han Lili's eyes widen in shock. "You guys broke up after you had your son?"

"No, we split while I was still early in my pregnancy." Su Lian does not mind answering questions that relate to her son. Even though she knows that she will be scorned by many people for having a child out of wedlock, and at such a young age too, she doesn't care.

Her son is her life. He is her source of joy and happiness.

Anyone who wants to be acquainted with her will have to accept the existence of her baby boy. He is and always will be her first priority.

Although she likes Han Lili, she won't continue to associate with her or her family members if she says anything negative about Yichen.

But contrary to her expectations the expressions of Han Lili and her parents were not of contempt, but of pity.

Unknown to Su Lian, they felt pity because they had created their own story to go with her brief explanation.

The scenario that popped up in the minds of the three people listening was that of a man abandoning a woman he so righteously claimed to love after finding out that she was pregnant.

This made them furious.

Su Lian is such a sweet and lovely young lady.

Only a bastard would abandon her after getting her pregnant.

If she wasn't as smart as she is, then, the pregnancy could have ruined her life and yet he just took off.

"What kind of scum would leave such a young woman alone with his unborn child?" Han Lili says in frustration.

"The worst kind of scum." Liu Yumei echoes after.

"An extremely useless waste of a human being."

"Can he even be called a human being? He is simply an animal."

"A despicable bastard."

"A shameless and good-for-nothing man..."

Taking turns, Han Lili and Liu Yumei repeatedly heap insults upon Su Yichen's father and don't stop until they feel satisfied.

After ranting to her heart's content, Liu Yumei remembers Han Lili saying that the girl's mother is dead. How tough must that be?

Her motherly instincts immediately take over and she gently pats Su Lian's hand. "If you are ever in need of anything, don't hesitate to ask me and I'll do my best to help you."

Liu Yumei smiles at her, but inside she was feeling very glum. It is regrettable that she can no longer make Su Lian her daughter-in-law.

Even though she personally liked Su Lian, she cannot impose something like this. With the existence of a child, the situation has changed.

She could force her son to marry someone, but she couldn't force him to father a child that isn't his. If they decide to go through with this, it would be unfair to both him and the young boy.
